The one player I could see them moving, mainly because his value is so high, is Angle. Do you consider a package centered around Angle and Brett Harrison (Osh 1st 2019)?
Angle won't return a first rounder. Angle and Afanasyev might in the right deal but if there was a deal with Oshawa and they are still in on Tomasino as has been rumoured since the deadline last year I would think Niagara would be his destination.
If there were an Oshawa deal to be had, again, this was just to stir the pot with you a bit so not suggesting there could be one but I would hope to see something like this
To Oshawa
(00) Angle - likely back for an OA year.
(01) Afanasyev - looking more like he could return next year, particularly in a situation where he would be on a top contender/guaranteed Memorial Cup appearance. Oshawa adding Tomasino wouldn't hurt either)
To Windsor
(02) Jesus - 6'3" left shot D who doesn't have a lot of points but probably projects more as a shutdown D, Windsor could use one of those.
(02) Gagnier - 5'11" LW (local kid) who hasn't put up a ton of points in 24 games but probably not playing a ton of top minutes.
(02) Matthew Sbrocca - G (local kid) currently playing in LaSalle. Would provide depth in goal, has some familiarity with the league but not likely a threat to the current tandem in Windsor.
WSR 2ND 2020, ERI 2ND 2022, GUE 2ND 2023
OSH 4TH 2022, OSH 4TH 2024
OSH 10TH 2023 - Pick is guaranteed but condition if Afanasyev returns next year pick becomes a 2ND and a 3RD in 2023
OSH 10TH 2024 - Pick is guaranteed but condition if Angle returns for an OA year pick becomes a 2ND in 2024
Oshawa gets a couple of solid players who should return next year, keeps them in the race this year while allowing them to move a couple of their big names this year to recoup even more players/assets. A sideways move for Oshawa much like they did last year.
Windsor continues to build around their 02s, adds to their draft pick stock and gives them options next year if they feel they can make a run next year with depth 02 players to use in deals. Gives them a third goaltender for depth at the position.
Do I think any of this will happen? No, just stirring the pot a bit but the only one that could make sense is a deal for Sbrocca this week since they need to do something and while Tovell is an option that's a big leap from JR C to Major JR. Making room for Sbrocca in LaSalle while not having a spot for Tovell there wasn't the smartest move but there's been a few moves like that this year that I won't go back into. The only way it makes sense to make room for Sbrocca is if they wanted to see how he looked incase they ever needed to make a quick deal for a third goaltender.
