Baloney. It's just your way to pretend to sound open-minded but confirm your own biases. I've said this before, but it all comes down to one core central argument, which is a mindless appeal to authority, i.e. these guys are professionals, so they must know what they're doing. The problem with that is that the track record on this is glaring, i.e. these guys way too frequently make poor or questionable decisions, decisions that literally any bozo walking around South Philly in a Gagne jersey who has never so much stepped foot on a sheet of ice can see upfront are poor or questionable. I do not pretend to have a direct line to god or Fletch, and admit I'm a f***ing moron, and yet somehow the professionals couldn't figure out that Brandon Manning sucked and that Travis Sanheim should have had his ice time but I could. It's infuriating.

In 2017-18, Manning didn't suck.
CF 50.57%, xGF 48.23%, CFrel +1.34, xGFrel -1.30, [better than Ghost this season]
not great, but pretty typical for a #5 defenseman - he was fifth in ES TOI that year.

Of course, Hextall wasn't fooled and moved him out after that season.

Sanheim struggled as a rookie, got sent down, then paired with Gudas on the 3rd pair in a sheltered role.
Put up good metrics in that role, but when he got promoted to the first pair with Provorov, those metrics substantially declined, evidence that they were partially an artifact of that role.

Bringing a young defensemen along slowly isn't "stupidity," it's proper development.
Had Sanheim been given a top four role as a rookie he probably would have cratered, he wasn't physically or mentally ready for that kind of responsibility.

The hidden genius of the bridge is Sanheim will likely never have a spot on PP1. Our next PP1 QB has been anointed. If and when Ghost comes back, Sanheim likely gets removed from PP2 since he’s 4th on the depth chart. Next year’s roster depending, he also might not be on PP2 (but I’d say it’s 50-50).

He can be as good as he wants in this usage, and it might not raise his long-term value from last season. It’s hard to score more than the 30-35 points he has been. If he got an extended PP1 run is when I’d be worried. But we don’t want that.

OK boomer

What’s most strange is boomers ate lots of sausages. They were practically Generation Nitrite. So, the inherent boomerism in boomers can’t be explained by a sausage deficiency. I’m at a loss.

Imagine reading that post and coming to that conclusion. :thumbd:

Reading comprehension is a lost art, and yes, I'm an "OK Boomer."
Well...you did say:

And that was Ghost's 65 point season, 17th in ES points, 1st on PP points.

Yeah, but what was his +/-?

Mannings most common D partner that year was Gudas (635:58), then Ghost (132:40), then Sanheim(106:25)... not Robert “Stat Killer” Hagg.

Case closed.

Et tu?

"better than Ghost this season", uh, this season is 2019-20?
Point was the metrics Manning put up that season were par for the course for a 5th defenseman.
Of course, we can blame his defensive partners and forwards for not putting up better metrics. :sarcasm:

Manning was actually talented enough to be a solid 3rd pair defenseman, but he lacked instincts and judgement, just compare his pinches with Braun. He tried to play beyond his limitations.

Surely you must know better than to directly compare metrics on two different teams in two different systems without taking a whole lot more context into account.

Surely.

I wont have any Hagg bashing as much as I won't allow anyone to defend Brandon Manning. The worst defenseman to ever play for this team.

Bad Deadhead. Get back in your cave. Defending any aspect of Mannings game should be punishable by infraction.

Manning might’ve been the dumbest in-zone defenseman I’ve seen play for the Flyers over the last 10 or so seasons. Read the game about as well as a walnut.

Lost so, so many 50/50 battles. Lost his man in coverage constantly. Suffered from helper syndrome: “My defense partner looks like he needs my help (spoiler alert: he didn’t) so I should abandon my check to help him out.” Goal against within seconds of that happening were not in any way an uncommon occurrence. He rarely broke up cycles, contested entries against, maintained proper stick & body positioning in net-front battles (or anywhere else in the DZ for that matter). He was horrendous.

*There is no need whatsoever to retcon his time here as a Flyer*

Especially in a thread about Travis Sanheim.

Good grief.

Wait why is there an entire page dedicated to Brandon f***ing Manning on the Sanhero thread?

Send help

Have you ever heard the tale of the mythical beast known as the Mannheim?

“The body and skill of a Sanheim. The head and hockey sense of a Man-Dog. This foul beast of hockey folklore is said to patrol the wilds of Western Canada, earning the trust of coaches, and looking to fight and feed off the life energy of young hockey players. All those who have crossed his path have beat him up and lived to tell the tale. But he will never stop trying.”

Manning is absolute trash but Hagg is no better.

Both are atrocious defensively, extremely low IQ, and way too aggressive offensively but not nearly skilled enough to have it pay off.

Neither belong in the NHL, but one has insane luck and lots of hits, so dinosaur NHL staff keep him around.

"I will let the opponent smash my face for 2 minutes straight - my homies need to see how I care, my smashed face will fire them up"

Whenever he had a truly horrendous game (even by his lowly standards) he’d get in a fight to...IDK...prove to Haknutz that he still deserved a spot in the lineup. He had snot & balls after all (or so I’ve been told).
