Whenever he had a truly horrendous game (even by his lowly standards) he’d get in a fight to...IDK...prove to Haknutz that he still deserved a spot in the lineup. He had snot & balls after all (or so I’ve been told).
And it worked like a charm.

He certainly knew his audience.

Fun fact: it worked for him to stay in the lineup and for authentic fans to like him. On the other hand, it hardly ever helped the team win.

Which is ironic, becuase the authentic hive keeps whining about "we are winning now, why are you talking about bad player". Consistency is for losers.

If they actually cared about winning they wouldn't defend guys who make it harder. ;)

Saying "but we're winning" is just a way to defend the coaches/GMs mistake without actually having to attempt to defend the players indefensible performances.

Anyway....Sanheim.

He’s been playing his best hockey as an NHLer over this past month(ish).

- Funneling checks to the outside on a consistent basis ✔
- Taking away time & space regularly from his check ✔
- Stick-On-Puck plays have occurred with growing frequency ✔
- Winning more 50/50 battles or at the very least doing a good job pinning the puck along the boards & passing it to a nearby teammate ✔
- Has improved his panic threshold under pressure on the breakout ✔
- Jumping up into the play at-will and creating a boatload of scoring chances as a result ✔
- His overall consistency is more readily apparent as well ✔

Well, Sanheim is still a wimp, but less so.
He has added about 10 lbs since his rookie year and is no longer bowled over by a stiff breeze.
But it's a good thing they've paired him with a real man in Myers.

All of our dmen have improved their play under the new coaching staff. (Ghost was playing hurt). Not sure who or what deserves how much of the credit, Yeo, AV or just maturity/experience. Our goaltending and dmen play has improved dramatically this year from the last couple.

I agree now that it was a bad move to only give him a two year contract.

$3.25m for only 25 points in 68 games vs. $2.3m for 27 points in only 48 games.

Fletcher will regret not locking up Scooty long term.

I dont think so.

Laughton's Sh% and PDO are fluke. In advanced stats he is still only bottom-six winger. And a really few players had two seasons in a row with so high Sh% and PDO. Next year probably he will not score so many points, then will not be a problem for resign him.

On another side, Sanheim has been playing very good this season and I expect another next step next season and then here will be a problem with resign him maybe.

I don't expect Sanheim to score much more next season without being a fixture on the PP. Maybe he gets more time with PP2 and sees 5 extra points or so. Either way, his next contract shouldn't be too crazy.

Sanheim's next contract will also start after the ED and after Niskanen's deal ends.

Right now it looks like they just have to pick two more forwards to protect. Hopefully it will be a no-brainer to protect Lindblom & Patrick.

Giroux (NMC), Voracek, Hayes (NMC) Konecny, Couturier
Provorov, Sanheim, Myers
Hart

Likely made available and meeting the Minimum Exposure Requirements

JVR, Aube-Kubel
Ghost, Hagg
Sandstrom

I'm assuming you didn't include Laughton due to Patrick and Lindbloms uncertainty?

Right now he's a UFA. If he gets an extension and those guys aren't healthy, then he could be the 6th forward to get protected.

Maybe there's even a reality where Laughton is extended & protected, and Voracek isn't.
