Percy utter crap?
Finn and Schenn - yes..
Due to injuries...
upside is huge, i feel he was the best d man on the marlies this year outside nielsen and valiev
this is just one reason why we shouldnt be so worried or in a rush to get a super star d man.
do I think JVR will be traded to more than likely ANA for a d, yes I do.
however many on these boards seem to keep saying well marner for blank I would do, it is a huge joke. our big 3 are going no where, you dont trade them in a rebuild you build around them, and trade from a position we are loaded on (the wing hence JVR)
so my guess is next season we have rielly, gards, zaits (dermott/nielsen) whoever we get for JVR in trade and then dpends if hunwick stays and so forth
he was clearly better than those 2, he was the marlies best dman this season period. He got the toughest minutes and matchups. Nielsen and Valiev aren't close to Dermott at all, Nielsen will need considerable improvement to even see an NHL game you cant just look at points for him, his skating and defensive reads/play are not good
i agree he was by far best, but to say Nielsen is far away i do not agree at all. He was top point getter for marlies dcore and played along side dermott in the playoffs. He actually nearly made the leafs out of camp this past season and i think would have if we didnt already have 100 rookies...aka no need to rush. Nielsen also possess' what we are missing a bomb of a shot AND with Polak's injury i think the leafs may let him go (prior he was great all year but this injury is bad)
and again i do agree dermott was the best d. and has the best chance of cracking our lineup, im just adding I think Nielsen may as well, then again maybe Calle Rosen
yeah Rosen signing adds the big bomb shot also. I just think Nielsen's skating needs serious work, without it he could be a 3rd pair PP specialist sure but to compare to dermott he needs to become at least a top4 Dman, dermott IMO can be in the leafs top4 by the end of next season. They will start him on the 3rd pair and he will force babs hand to move him up

Don't wanna derail the thread but damn. Percy showed a ton of promise and his upside would be great for the current team. Pretty much had his career ruined by concussions. Poor dude.

Nothing against Percy personally, but I never knew what the Leafs saw in him to draft him.
I attended the junior games and he certainly didn't stand out at all. I think Burke's limited himself to the GTA, going anywhere else was too much work and settled for Percy and Biggs in that draft.
Dermot seem to have the skills needed to be an AHLer...skating and puck handling. We'll see how he does with decision making on a higher speed when he comes to the NHL. I think he'll do just fine.

No one should question me whether I have seen him playing, as I have been watching him since 2012 (playing for Newmarket in OJHL) and since then he has transformed himself into a legit 2 way "D", he is responsible in his own zone and can even create offense - he is not your typical 1st pairing "D" and I believe never going to be but he going to be legit NHLer and is going to be a 2nd pairing "D" with PK and PP skills

Ju ville try, but ju ville no get ze anzerz. Now, pazz se borscht!!!!
Still would be thrilled if Dermott turns into a 4-5 dman for us.
If you have watched the Marlies, he is close to an NHL top 4, now.

Konecny or Aho were the correct choices in the draft IMHO. Maybe he will surge but its hard to see. 4-5?
