I hope that Matthews is a great success and the Leafs remain the Leafs.
110 points for Matthews, 76 for the Leafs at his peak.
Sorry guys.

Not that I want to take steam away from his amazing feat, but remember the 8 point night from Gagner and the 5 assists in one game from RNH in his rookie season? These feats happen and, yes they are amazing, but you have to remember that was 1 game. If he can score on a consistent basis then there wouldn't be people playing down this feat.
I for one am amazed and happy for him, but I don't expect him to do it all the time. In fact, I'd be VERY surprised and amazed if he did this more than once a year. I feel the same way with McDavid. It's just cautious optimism in case the player lets you down.
Was this game a microcosm of the leafs soon to come season? Mathews does all the work but it's not enough to get the wins

I can still hope!Won't happen. All teams who draft superstars end up drafting them because they are bad. They improve when those players gain experience. Happened with Chicago, Pittsburgh, LA, Tampa...happening currently to Florida, Edmonton, Buffalo and Toronto.
Leafs have smart management, star players in the making. Shore up the D by trading some offence and they will shoot up the standings. Good thing they are still a work in progress and the lotto rules have changed.
Leafs could finish 20th and still wind up picking top 3!
Couldn't agree more. Watched the Oilers when the Leafs game ended and McDavid is such an incredible player. Him and Matthews really stand out above the other players on the ice, and it's really a shame we won't see them play together once they hit their primes
All props to Matthews. Already looks better than McDavid. Size, hands, puck control, shot. He's going to be a stud.
Matthews will be on prime time in both countries on Saturday. NBCSN picks up Toronto vs. Bruins after his 4 goal game.

No telling what could happen. One of them could easily bolt to the others team.
Great. Now he has to score another 4 goals.
Both players seem to be too loyal to do that, but if McDavid wants to prove me wrong I'd be fine with it
Edmonton 3:16 - For Gretzky so loved the world that he gave his one and only McJesus, that whoever believes in him shall not lose but have Stanley Cups.
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. Bore from a Californian and Mexican woman ... trained in eternal flames of Scottsdale ... the person who goes by the name Austin Matthews is a false god. Don't believe a word from the heretics who hail from Toronto.
