This thread popped up sooner than I expected as the SCF's haven't even started yet. When it comes to the Leafs it's almost as if having a few top-end forwards doesn't necessarily translate to success on their own. Just look at the Oilers as well.

Lol it's gotta be the 2019 Bolts. Swept the first round, came back the next season and won the cup with essentially the same team. Are back again this season.

Did OP get hacked or something? Usually threads like this are from burners or known silly persons. 3k posts is a bit much for this kind of thread, no?

10 million was too much for Marner and 80 million was too much for Babcock hockey. Leaf fans should exit stage left when it comes to the topic of something being "too much."

A healthy version of the 2011 Canucks or the 2009 Red Wings would have bent this current version of the Maple Leafs over and split them down the middle like an old piece of firewood.

2006 wings or 2019 bolts off the top of my head.

Lots of people forget that wings team was coming off a historic season.

Leafs didn't even win the President's Trophy and were in a relatively easy division.

How many Presidents Trophy winners haven't won? Like 80% of them? Start with those, because every single one of those was better than this year's Leafs team. Then add a bunch of non-Presidents trophy winners too.

Bizzare thread. They're not better than this year's Knights or Lightning and only one can win. Not better than this year's Avalanche, Hurricanes, or Bruins either.

Going into the past they're not better than last year's Avalanche, the 2019 Lightning, basically the entire Sharks run of elite teams with no cup, 2011 Canucks, just a truly bizzare premise.

There is nothing special about the Leafs, they lost to a top 5 team in Boston twice as the 10th ish best team in the league and lost to Columbus who had the same regular season points percentage as them.

This is the first genuinely great regular season they've had, the idea they've been some juggernaut that can't win like the Caps/Sharks is just media hype, they aren't anywhere near those teams.

We've got the best team to not win a playoff round.

Edit: meaning over the course of several years with the same core.

Does that mean they are the first loser when it comes to winning the Stanley Cup?

The NHL loses when the Leafs lose
The NHL is more entertaining when the Leafs are eliminated. I like the personalities on hockey central at noon. When the Leafs get eliminated they actually talk about the rest of the league.

Also, this year's Leafs team was not as good as this year's Avs or Jets teams (once the Jets got going). Can't even say convincingly that they were better the Canes or Panthers.

86 Oilers
93 Penguins
96 Red Wings
2009 Red Wings
2011 Capitals
2013 Bruins
2019 Lightning

Those are 7 teams off the top of my head that I would expect to beat this Leafs team in 5 games or less.

Those Sharks teams were all better, Philly 2010 was better, Canucks 2011 were better, Nashville in 2017 were better, Boston in 2017-18 were better, Ducks in 2003 were better, that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there's at least 2 more teams per year that were better than this Leafs team. This is a weird thread.
Hawks 2014, Kings 2013, had the unfortunate situation of having to play each other in the WCF.

I never thought they were legitimately good to begin with. They racked up wins playing in a really weak division in a really weird regular season format, and all of a sudden they are anointed "best team to not win the cup." Please.
