so Dubas pays a first round to get rid of Marleau, then turns around and gives one of the worst d-man in the entire league 4.5. I'm the biggest Dubas fan but that's just sh*tty asset management

tough to see him rejected by his old team, but he kinda should have expected the unspoken animosity given the way he left them for us - imo they'd probably re-up jumbo joe before patty anyways

hope he lands somewhere, but at this point, don't see it happening
You have come to the conclusion that he won’t be signed because of animosity between him and the Sharks. I really doubt that is true. If DW thought Patty could help this team he would sign him without hesitation. This news tells me that DW feels he has better options for the bottom 6 than the player Marleau is today.

Perhaps, and although I don't think that is the sole reason, it can't be dismissed - if DW wants to go with the young guys, that is totally fine and understandable as well.

I'm not upset. Maybe I sound bitter, but I don't really care what Marleau does. He's not a Shark. He chose to "play for a winner." We don't owe him anything. I'd rather give this spot to kids than Marleau.

I wouldn't be upset if he signed with SJ either though. As long as he accepts a minor role.

no, Dubas turned around and signed Kapanen and Johnsson with the money. Then traded Zaitsev for a better player with the same cap hit for 1 season instead of 5

We paid the first to let him go out and try to find something instead of LTIR him. Dubas even said they did him a favour

You’re going to LTIR a guy who hasn’t missed a game in 10 years, and no more than 6 in a single season throughout his entire career?

Going to call BS on that one.

You are in for one hell of a surprise if you think Ceci is the better player

He’s your scapegoat from game 3.

They have two players above the age of 30 currently under contract, and both of them are top pairing defensemen. When they add Thornton, he’ll be the 3rd, and he’s still a 3rd line center. Marleau is unlike these guys in that he’s a replacement level player.
San Jose is among the oldest lineups in the League....without Thornton, so I can understand why they wouldn't want Marleau too.

All we need to realize is that your 1st round pick is ours, while coming off a more successful season. Life is good.
Carolina should use that first to pick to choose the highest rated goalie.
Mrazek and Reimer don't instill much confidence and without McElhinney's 20 wins making it back to the playoffs could prove to be very difficult?

Patty is going to sign with the biggest threat out west and tear them apart from the inside making it easier for SJ. What a guy.

On my keister
At any rate, it's like Alfredsson or Modano to the Wings. Marleau to the Leafs is just sad.
I get a player wanting to test the waters, but after all this time, just to not even come close to a Bourque? Screw you.

The NHL average age is going down so I would have to believe that it will be less than 27.9 and
I doubt that Chmelevski starts the season with the Sharks.
CAP FRIENDLY already lists him starting with the Barracuda.

First off, the NHL average age is not actually going down. People have been saying that every year, despite no consistent trend in that direction. If Sasha Chmelevski doesn’t start with the Sharks, it’ll almost certainly be Ivan Chekhovich, who is also 20 years old.

Regardless of these two factors, your assertion that they are one of the oldest teams in the league is false. They’re not.

So Chekhovich, who was chosen 212th in 2017, will be on San Jose's opening night lineup having played 5 games in the AHL last year?

I think I see where this is going.
We'll know in a month and one of us will be able to claim victory.
My belief is that San Jose's will be one of the top 10 oldest opening night lineups.
