Because of the cap dropping next year, i can see where you're coming from. But i still don't think Bozak is the right fit. We do have a lot more depth than we've had before and thats the problem. We have grabo making 5.5M but he's playing third line minutes. If we can trade grabo, move bozak into the third line slot, we would be able to upgrade the top line center position.

Bozak and a b prospect for seguin??

Lol grow up people seguin is 21 and playing in a defensive system with a lot of scoring depth. Hate him all you want but when a couple bodies move in Boston he will be an amazing player.

I don't hate him, but Julien tried him at centre with Bergeron out and he wasn't so amazing. He's playing 3rd line wing now for the time being.

If we don't re-sign Bozak we'll end up regretting it. He does all the little things you need to win games, all while playing against the best the other team has many nights. He's just about to enter his prime and is a big voice in the room and a major cog for the chemistry of the group.

We have Komi being bought out and Connolly's contract expires, Bozak should get what Connolly gets, I imagine he would take a contract like that to stay here, where he has friends and has established himself.....and he is worth that amount of money for the reliability he brings and the trust the coach has in him.

Don`t get why he is hated by some on here, if he was on another team we would all be talking about targeting him as a FA this summer.

Bergeron has missed a total of 3 games and I think Julien gave Seguin 1 game at center .

What does this thread have to do with Seguin anyway ?

Nobody said they don't want him to stay. They just don't want to overpay again.

Many dont want him to stay.
Some have it stuck in their head that he already wants 5+.

I don't see him asking for that. I do see him getting 4+

I think Nonis has a pretty good idea what he wants and will pay it.

Seguin was pretty bad this year. He received all offensive starts and played heavily sheltered minutes (Bergeron helped a lot too).

Too much dancing late nights with Brad? On a more serious note Bozak has just as good numbers as Seguin

How does he receive sheltered mins when he plays on a line that is used to play against the other teams top offensive line every night ?

He gets more offensive start because he plays on the pp and not on the pk .

What the hell does Seguin have to do about this? He's a young player on another team. Why not bring up Desharnais while you're at it or RNH or Couturier or Loktionov. Such a weird fascination some people seem to have with the kid.

I don't get it. He was never ours. He's a very talented kid and will be a key player some day.

Not for us tho, so who cares?

And regret it every single day after.
Be a pretty big hole to fill.

Not sure what people think they're getting for 4-5m anymore
Leino, Versteeg, Fleischmann, Cole, Erat, Legwand, Laich, Mcdonald, Umberger, Booth.

Seem like a bunch of secondary players to me. $4M doesn't get you much talent anymore. Not that I'm saying Bozak would be a better decision that any of those guys for that money but I would want a suitable replacement if we aren't re-signing him.

Not a TB fan, but he holds his own on the 2nd PK unit also.

I don't disagree, was just saying he isn't stalwart as in he's not good enough defensively to be considered someone who provides great cover for Kessel. Some people try to pump him up as some great defensive center that covers for Kessel's mistakes, yet it's his line that's always hemmed in and getting scored on.

Guess you missed the game winning pass to Kessel last night, also his work in the final mins with Kule and Mcclement was coattailing at it's best.

Those are mins you are going to see plenty of in the playoffs.

Wow, 1 good pass in how many games?

It's certainly odd. Stajan would be a better measure since he was who Bozak replaced.

I do agree with you. A lot of Leaf fans are asking Bozak to be the #1 center for the Leafs and play like Crosby. Currently he is only make 1.5 mil per year and he is playing in many aspects of the game including PK, PP, 1st line center, Faceoff specialist.

I would have to say, it's amazing that we were able to pick up Bozak for basically free (entry-level contract signed with the Leafs). We really need to appreciate how much value he was able to bring to the team.

We don't expect Crosby, we at least expect him to be able to put up more than 50 points playing with 2 PPG players, we also expect him to at least have a little offensive creativity consistently especially if he's going to be on the 1st line, the whole look for Kessel crap gets old and is a big reason why Kessel doesn't have more goals.

Because he is currently the best 1c we have. Kessel and JVR are both producing, that's all that matters.

And JVR he says! JVR had 1 point and not even a goal in how many games playing with Bozak? The only reason Kessel has been producing is because of himself. All Bozie does is throw passes to him left, right and center it doesn't even matter if he's covered or not, that pass is going to Phil.

Once again, I have to point out that you are completely missing the point here. Maybe if you quit shaking your head it would help you see clearly.

You think it's ridiculous Kadri gets 6m in a couple years? He might not, but I don't think it's out of the question at all. He's been our best forward this year, if that doesn't change there's no reason he shouldn't want to be paid as such. Maybe Kessel makes a little more, maybe he doesn't, it'll be a new cap world and believe it or not the rest of the NHL aren't huge fans of Phil Kessel. I'm not so sure he gets a better offer anywhere else than we get him. However as I've said all along, just speculating.

What I'm trying to say is that assuming Bozak wants around 4/year, what he brings to the table is well worth a contract like that considering it makes it more likely we'll be able to pay the Gardiner's, Kadri's and Reimer's when their turn comes.

WTF did I just read? No market for a PPG winger who's been rounding out nicely over the past few years and is about to be a huge reason his "buddy" is gonna get a huge pay raise. And you think he's only gonna get a .1mil pay raise?

Well not really, he also wins key faceoffs, is part of our 4th ranked PK unit, his coach trusts him to play in the 3rd period last night and the final mins of the game.

I do agree, 1 good pass is a terrible standard for a player, something that you are only too happy to post for Grabo once about every 10 games he plays.

What's McClemment making?

Well, Bozak does what He does (better on faceoffs) but not as good. Simply put, anything more than 3.75/yr, for 3 years, is a laugh.

If he wants more, why don't we test how much other teams value a faceoff guy at the draft, and package him with our pick to move up.
