Couturier is probably worth that, but no he won't get it because the raw production isn't there.

7 years isn't bad. The NMC is.

Signing Hayes isn't a disaster at all and there were arguably acquisitions that were clearly worse even at the time last summer. And the summer before. And the summer before that. And there will be next summer. It simply doesn't stand out as being a disaster.

I was very much against him getting an NMC, but it really seems like it doesn't matter now because they aren't going to be going 4-4.

Panarin without Hayes/NIskanen/Braun would mean a team devoid of forward depth, so you put Panarin with Couts, Giroux as your 2C, and no veteran defensemen - good luck!

I'd point out that the Rangers have Panarin, Strome, Zibanejad, Fast, Chytil, Kakko, Howden, DeAngelo, Fox, Trouba, Skjei.
And have gotten better goalie play than the Flyers so far this season.
So with all that talent, uh, they're 10 points behind us!

This can't be a serious post? You list playing with Strome, Kakko, Chytil, Fast, and Howden as some kind of advantage?

Strome has been passed by 2 different NHL teams because 34 points in a season doesn't cut it. This actually hurts the Hayes argument too
Kakko is a rookie and will end the season with ~30 points...how lucky Panarin is to play alongside him!! Most people don't rate +/- but being -16 is significant
Jesper Fast?? Let's NEVER forget Jesper Fast!! He's got 22 points and is on pace to break his career high of 33!!! What a STUD!! He can elevate the play of anyone!!11
Chytil? Oh boy, the Flyers should trade Konecny straight up for him!! He's got 17 points this season and is DEFINITELY the reason why Panarin is having a Hart season!!

Artemi Panarin is a borderline franchise player. Flyers are log-jammed at D as is and I'd rather have NAK and Frost up full-time over Hayes, Braun, and Niskanen

You are a silly Homer XD

Uh, reading comprehension is a lost art.

The point was pre-season, adding Panarin, Fox and Trouba to a team with young talent was supposed to make the Rangers a serious playoff threat, while the Flyers "settled" for Hayes.
The failure of these players to step up simply shows that adding a star doesn't necessarily make a team better, Toronto actually played worse after adding Tavares.

Roster construction in the cap era has to take into account fit and chemistry, as well as talent.

The NMC is not good
7 mill is prob 1 mill too much

But with Nolan likely done for the year, I dread what our C would look like without Hayes.

Couts would be run into the ground by now, without looking at stats it appears G and Couts icetime is way down and that’s a good thing if playoffs are the goal.

Panarin has helped a bunch of average players have career years (DeAngelo, Strome, Fox) and has 26 points more than his next closest teammate.

It's safe to say Flyers wouldve put G at center and still been well off as Panarin is that good.

It definitely couldve hurt our depth a bit, but we have prospects that arent getting ice time...that's the reality.

Instead we have Hayes with a NMC for 7 years. What a joke. And I like Hayes...just not for 7x7 with NMC

Flyers passed up on adding a franchise STUD and "played it safe" w/ a mediocre 2c/great 3c on a team UNfriendly contract

Willingness to admit being wrong is a lost art

Every top FA got a NMC. Why would you sign with a team, move your family and settle in, only to be traded or exposed in the ED?
FAs have leverage and use it. Get over it.

Flyers had no chance of adding Panarin, he wanted to go to NYC and got top dollar to do so.
FAs do choose where they want to go, something many fans have trouble comprehending.

Nor would Panarin necessarily made the Flyers a playoff team, he would have cost not just Hayes (with center a black hole) but also Braun or Niskanen, if not both. Flyers would be like the Rangers, great 1st line, but a lot of holes in the rest of the lineup.

Not necessarily. I would expect them to Protect P, S and M on D, but Seattle could take one of the exposed forwards instead of Ghost.

Getting back to Hayes, I really don't understand how a guy who looks so great defensively on the PK can already be at 40 GA at 5on5. It's bizarre.

Player Season Totals - Natural Stat Trick

Some bad puck luck, some mish mash lines lacking chemistry.

Flyers seem to be jelling in the second half like AV's teams usually do.
At the end of the season it'll be interesting to compare first half and second half performances.

Tied for the team lead in goals and league lead in shortys. There's no way you can argue against the signing.

All of Chuck's offseason moves have been a bright spot: Signing AV, Re-signing Elliot, adding Braun and Nisky, trading for Pitlick, and the big one: trading for Hayes's rights and signing him.
I mean that’s an awfully orange tint to it.

hayes was a had to get. Duchene wasn’t signing here and we needed the center depth. We paid for it for sure.

AV has made improvements to overall even strength play and the pk. Power play is a dumpster fire and it’s his team.

Braun was a gross overpay for a 4-5 guy.

Niskanen was objectively a win.

pitlick is meh, health is still a concern. He’s a good bottom line guy but nothing special.

Some would say AV isn't a bright spot because he drug MT here.

As Myrtetus said on his pod. Pitlick as a fourth liner at 1 Million this year is a win. If you can bring him back at 2 years 2.8 I'd do it...

This all seems like nitpicking lol. How's Duchene + Preds doing? Hayes was far the better fit here than Duchene (imo) who btw, has more goals than Duchene while being superior 200 ft player and PKer. Why does it seem every team Duchene is on struggles? Rather have Hayes in our locker room than Duchene

This time last year we were bottom dwellers and PP aside, AV has drastically improved the teams play, especially defensively.

Braun and Nisky both have collectively stabilized our team defense as well as the PK.

Pitlick has been one of our better 4th liners in recent seasons. The guy can skate and never takes a shift off. Our 4th line is light years better than last season. Pitlick was a very nice under the radar depth move for us.

just being a pragmatist. Optimism hurts too much with this team.
