Just finished. 9/10 from me. Delivered in every sense, only reason it's not a 10 is:

1. the cgi to make the faces younger wasn't done very well
2. Didn't like how they randomly focused on family at the end of the movie when it was barely acknowledged. Otherwise, it was perfect and a great way for Joe Pesci to go out.

YOU PEOPLE

Gee what does that remind you of?
I was dying lol

It's really not that great. I know people are going to go wild about that because it's Scoresese, DeNiro and Pacino but there's absolutely no reason this movie had to be 3 and a half hours. The CGI faces, especially for DeNiro, I found to be unbelievably distracting. Like others have mentioned in this thread watching old man DeNiro "violently" attack the grocer was ridiculous. I have no idea how something like that, which is so easily fixed, makes it through to the final cut of the film.

The big positives are Pacino's and Pesci's performances which are excellent. Older Pesci is perfect for the toned down mobster he plays here and Pacino still has all his abilities.

Pesci will get a nomination and maybe ray Romano as well.

With the three main actors all past their 75th birthdays, Pacino brought his usual game. Pesci brought a good toned down version of his usual gangster role, but Bobby d did not bring the energy to the role it needed.

If this movie had been made 20 years ago I think that it could have great. But Sheeran died in 2003 and I think while he was alive the movie could have been made because he would obviously been arrested.

Like many I like mob movies and stories. And I don't believe that the two major kills he got credited for in the movie is crap. The first one(I will not mention the name so not to spoil the movie or events) is because there is just to much proof that there were in fact 4 shooters and who they were.

The second murder the FBI while listing him originally as a suspect removed him from the list because he could not be two places at the same time. There was not enough time for him go from point a to point b and then back to point a. The car was tailed and the FBI had reports on where they were and what they were doing.

God that was long. It’s fine but far from a masterpiece. Pesci had the best and most consistent performance in my opinion. DeNiro was pretty flat and Pacino was uneven with his character I felt. Romano was good in his limited role. Way too long though. Absolutely no reason to be that length to tell that story. It’s like a 6.5-7/10 for me.

on the history sites I visit it is getting attacked.

Two former FBI guys are just saying it is out and out fiction.

two key elements (now that I am on my lap top i can do it)

"He was not involved in the Crazy Joe hit--while it is unsolved it is only because they did not get a confession from the shooters--just the getaway driver, the look out and a few other people --they have had the names of the 4 shooters for awhile"

second

"The road trip that paid a key part of the plot--the FBI tailed the car the entire way and the FBI have the record that proves they physically had him with Russel in the time frame of the abduction"

I liked it a lot. I thought Marty hit it out of the park. Nicely shot, great background music. The cinematography was excellent. For the most part, they stuck to the bones of the book. The CGI was very good. It will only get better.
The round table interview with the 4 of them gave you some insight into the background of the filming and directing process.

Ultimately I felt like I'd seen this film before. It's like a weird mash-up of Casino and Good Fellas.

Jarring violence interspersed with banal conversations about fish and olives.

I kind of miss the subtle Pacino but the Hoffa character certainly didn't call for it. It was nice seeing Pesci settle into a role so seamlessly and comfortably. He was often called upon to play outrageous characters in the mob movie genre so it's nice to see him get to play a more subtle role. I enjoy Stephen Graham in general but I thought he was miscast as Tony Pro.

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't a masterpiece and didn't really break any new ground or take any risks.

The ending to me felt as if Scoresese realized DeNiro's character was shallow and devoid of any emotional complexity with twenty minutes left in the film. Tried to capitalize on unearned sympathy and family drama.

There's a sort of an underlying narrative about the war either creating a sociopath or unearthing his sociopathic tendencies.

Whether that is Frank's attempt to rationalize his actions or simply the sad truth of what war can do to some people is open to interpretation.

Thought it was great. Basically it was everything you'd expect from a Scorcese mafia movie. The all-star cast didn't feel forced at all, and all were surprisingly sharp and on top of their game, considering their age. Weren't really able to pull off the old guys playing young guys thing, and at times it felt a bit comical.

I mean some aspects were fictionalized right? In the movie Pesci's character experienced regret and died in a prison hospital, in reality he was released and lived another 5 years as a mob boss.
