Schultz was also coming off of the worst year of his career when he signed that 1 year deal. But why let facts get in the way of things right?

BTW what was Oshie going to get on the open market? You can call the Marchand deal a bargain all you want, but Marchand signed that deal a year before Oshie signed his. You can bet the farm that Washington was using Marchand's contract as part of their negotiations.

BTW I like how you seem to have ignore where each guy ranks in pay against his peers...but again why let facts get in the way, right?

You know what, I could give you 100 examples of players who take discounts to re-sign with the team where they're playing. If you don't think that happens, we're done here.

The player other GM’s will want as a “throw in” with little/no value coming back. The reasons you listed above are exactly why the B’s shouldn’t move him unless they are getting fair value (which they won’t).
Agree. But some GM might see the value. Don’t think I do

Like Dzingel but really hope they don't pay through the nose for a rental.

If its a guy with term that fits beyond 2019 I'm 100% on board, but if its just a shiny scratch ticket for the next couple months then no thanks.

I don't even know who our second line is. . . Krejci, Debrusk + ?????

Yeah this is where I'm at with Dzingel. Nice player, could help this team, and I'd be willing to make an offer, but this is not an elite player, and no way would I be giving up anything close to a Nash type package (no #1, no top 5 prospects).

If you could get a deal done using a #2 and a second tier prospect (JFK maybe, maybe a Zboril if Boston has given up on him a bit), with maybe a conditional pick on top of that

Oh it happens, but typically they've played there for more than half a season and their production is pretty steady. That's not the case with Dzingel and if you think he and his agent won't be pushing for 60+ point player money, then you are mistaken. He may not get it 60+ point player money, but he's not taking any discounts. He's going to strike while the iron is hot.

BTW humor me. I know you said you have 100's of examples, but just give me 10 players that took a discount to play for a team after seeing their production triple off their career average. Being you have 100's and only need 10, I imagine by the time I get home from my commute (about 15-20 minutes) that you'll have something posted. I look forward to reading it.

Name me 5 top prospects Bruins have better then him. Vaak is one and some will say Studnicka but Bruins cannot say they have many projecting better then him.Dzingel we know what he is for sure and will get you 20 plus goals.

I already gave you 3 but you stubbornly buried your head in the sand. Like I said, we're done.

Vaak for sure has upside that, while at a different position, exceeds Dzingel.

I see Vaak eventually being about as good as McAvoy will be.

But what do I know, I was down on Heinen long ago and had to be convinced that he was going to be an impact player.

I like Dzingel, but he’s 27, so it’s kind of hard to compare him to a prospect and say who is better.

He’s having a career year this season, but he’s also playing 18 minutes a night and has an 18% shooting percentage, which will be hard to maintain.

Last year he had 23 goals, playing 16:30, and had a 16.9 SP. I feel like that’s probably close to what he will give you for the next 3/4 years?

Good point and this is a very good thoughtout post with numbers to support it.I just do not feel like Bruins have 5 who stick right out as untradeable for a guy like this when you need help .Not saying I would trade the farm for him but this guy should be given serious consideration by Sweeney.

I already gave you 3 but you stubbornly buried your head in the sand. Like I said, we're done.

And I showed how they didn't take discounts, but you stubbornly buried your head in the sand. I even asked you what Oshie would get on the open market and you never answered. Btw none of those guys saw their production triple off their career average.

I'm mean you said there are 100's of examples so I dont understand why you cant list 10...well 7 since you gave 3, even though they were wrong.

Instead of putting your money your mouth is and listing them, your now deflecting and trying to walk away because you dont actually have examples to back it up. The closest thing you have are guys that are paid in the in the top 30 amongst their peers.

Your are right on one thing though, we're done lol

I was told by some posters that he can play all three F positions, but then someone else (Bill Ladd?) said he’s primarily a LW. I’m not a huge fan of JDB on the right side.

If it was Dzingel or nothing, I take Dzingel, but prefer someone that can play RW.

I would definitely pursue Dzingel (and attempt to re-sign him) before Simmonds. The only issue is that he’s another LH wing.

That's true, but Simmond contract is the next anchor contract, and this team could use a 25 goal scorer next to Krejci.

So wouldn't get mad with Dzingel, but would hate Simmonds addition.

Gonna be brutally honest. Nyquist would not be enough to help the second line. He would be a consolation prize pick-up and not a solution IMO.

If I'm going for a cheap consolation prize I'm moving one of the D prospects that Benning is still in love with for Virtanen and trying the two Jake's together as a speedy north-south drive to the net pairing with Krejci in the middle. I still believe Virtanen just needs the right linemates and coaching and something with a D prospect or sending Heinen home to BC to work with Horvat may be just what Danton needs as well.

I think Duchene is pricing himself out of the Sens reach as well as many other teams including the Bruins. He'd be a great pick-up needless to say, but I wouldn't want to over-pay for a rental and I really think he's looking for a big pay-day come July 1st.

In Dzingel defense this is only his 3rd full year in Ottawa and his goal totals have climbed each year from 14 to 20 and so far this year he's scored twenty as well. He played 3 years at Ohio St and played over 100 games down in the AHL and at every step has showed that he can score. He'll also be looking fo a significant raise but I have no doubt he'll be productive.

The one name who pops up quit a bit and is having a down year, but still has a year remaining is Toffoli, who could be a buy low candidate and if he returns to form, would be exactly what the bruins have been looking for to fix their second line RW problem.
I’m assuming both would be rentals. I just think Duchene is the better offensive player that would make the Bruins deep for a run. They couldn’t resign him without some creativity, but for a rental he’d be a good choice.

With Bergeron& Krejci getting older I can't see that being enough to solve it longterm. For longterm future they need a high end player.

But with that Florida trade Florida is going to be a big player for Panarin with Barkov/Dadonov/Mamin/Kis connection.

I don't see how they aren't the clear favorite. Miami offers a lot to Panarin.

They have lot of Russian's in the lineup/prospect pool these days, with his ex KHL linemate playing next to 23y Barkov who speaks Russian as well as Finnish.

Then add the weather+the city+ taxes+ how good you could expect them to be with free Panarin/+ Bob additions.
I believe even Kovy has a place there.

As an addendum to this thread, I ask the board what the goal for this season is

Cup or bust?
2nd round?
Just make the playoffs?
Maximize future chances at cups by stockpiling assets?

I think the goal determines how you approach the deadline. Not every year can be a Stanley cup year, and getting to the second round and losing to Tampa can be a net positive for the franchise (not just for gate revenue, but the brand exposure and reputation can help you come free agency time and help with morale, keeping the current players here when their contracts come up for renewal, etc.).

It's understandable to think cup or bust, and if you're not a heavy favorite come February you might as well sell all assets and tank for draft position, but the ripple effect of that doesn't help the roster grow.

It feels a little wasteful to send draft picks or prospects for a rental when you don't expect to win the cup, but I'm starting to come around to the idea of improving competitiveness and such helping the franchise over the long run. And maybe our chances of beating Tampa on a 7 game series are 25%, but with the Bergeron line and a healthy Rask, bigger upsets have happened.

With Krejci moving to a 16 team NTC clause this summer, is it crazy to include moving Krejci for a 1st+ as part of the potential strategy?

I'm not suggesting its a strategy I am trying to push. But, that, along with letting Chara walk, paying someone to take Backes, dealing Krug for futures, etc has to be on the table, right?
