PRE-TRADE DEADLINE NEWS
- It wasn't a very newsworthy season leading up to the All-Star Break, as the Hawks were all around solid until hitting a little speed bump a week before the All-Star Break and beyond.
- With a 34-19-6 record on February 15, it was known that Hawks GM, MCG wasn't happy with his bottom pairing of Jay Harrison - Trevor vanRiemsdyk, and was looking for an upgrade on the position. Chiarelli of the Oilers reportedly offered the Hawks Andrew Ference, which MCG responded they're not THAT desperate. Chiarelli persisted, which led to MCG challenging Chiarelli to a fight in the octagon. Chiarelli never called again.
TRADE DEADLINE
- With a 37-20-7 record at the trade deadline, good for second in the Central Division, no deal was completed for a defenseman, but the phones were off the hook and a deal was sure to be done by the deadline. The Hawks were seeking a bottom-pairing defenseman who could pitch in with some time on the penalty kill and be responsible enough where the Hawks could rely on them more than they did the bottom-pairing in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
TRADE - Feb 29. - The Chicago Blackhawks trade
C Mark McNeill to the Arizona Coyotes for disgruntled 23-year-old defenseman,
D Connor Murphy. Connor Murphy reportedly requested a trade from the Arizona Coyotes, but neither party confirmed it heading into the deadline, or even after it.
POST-TRADE DEADLINE
- The Chicago Blackhawks went a 9-6-3 run after the trade deadline, finishing the season with a 46-26-10 record, good for second in the Central Division.

Eric Staal signs a 1-year, $9-million deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.
TRADE - JULY 1 - The Chicago Blackhawks trade
LW Bryan Bickell to the Montreal Canadiens for
Montreal's 2017 2nd-round-pick.
The Bryan Bickell trade allowed the Hawks to open up cap space to make a run at Eric Staal on a short-term deal to replace Marian Hossa's production. The Marian Hossa retirement was also the reason the Hawks were able to re-sign as many players as they did, including LW Andrew Ladd, who, at the beginning of the season, it was a forgone conclusion among many that he would be a UFA.
