A lot of us just use the standings.

Me for Example: a player 85-86 cannot be traded to the bottom 10 teams in the league, and if a player is 87 or above they can not be traded to the bottom 20 teams in the league.

I use that. Click it once, take the first 10 teams, and that becomes the player's list.

Bobkov is an excellent OFD however his defensive abilities are slightly lacking for my taste. He was signed out of FA back in 2022-2023(75ovr) and had a decent run with my team. He played in 314 NHL games and scored 135 points. This is pretty rare for me as I normally don’t trade such high value assets until I’ve squeezed everything I can out of them. However Pavel hasn’t been happy with me ever since he was a healthy scratch, for 10 games, to begin the 2026-2027 season.

I was riding high with my first 3 picks and wondering why my scouts told me this year would be below average. But then it all made sense as almost all my late round picks were sub-par.

It's the draft that makes NHL16 BAGM fun, no doubt about that. My favorite thus far was a 2024 4th round goalie pick, 20 years old. He was Low Backup when I drafted him and changed to Low Starter the following season. At 22 years old he was 80ovr and Low Elite. At 24 years old he turned Low Franchise and is 90ovr :yo:.

that's actually incredible growth and definitely shows the depth of this game! Doesn't get enough credit for the way they made player development so realistic. anyone can bust and anyone can thrive depending on their team, chemistry, environment, production etc...

also, through the next season about 50 games and WOOLLEY has reached 20+ goals already and is on pace for 30+..future leaf captain?? (after Reilly's tenure that is) lol

Hey, for sure go with what's suggested but for later career older players on their long term contract, consider their home town as #1 if theyre middle of the pack-contenders. The obvious leaders in the run for the cup(the chicagos, tampas dallas', etc) and also maybe their favourite team as a kid growing up as the front runner(living the dream). which you can probably find on the internet from an interview or tsn player bio... hope this helps!

you could also use their "best locker room chemistry" and trade him to where is best friend plays as an alternate trade story (like brothers wanting to play on the same team, staals, sutters, sedins, etc)

Okay, EA...

it's viable....unlikely but viable man. Think if tampa won the cup but stammer still watned to leave...then drouin wants to peace cuz he hates the opportunity he's getting..then they loose 2 of their best players...maybe bishop wants too much money etc..

all of a sudden tampa looks like a place for players to flush their careers...people should stop blaming EA for everything

Bolland left chicago after he scored the game winning goal instead of taking a discount to play for a contender...he wanted a pay day

Washington 2027-2028 Season through 2028 Draft

Washington 2027-2028 Season
I released a several low potential prospects and UFA Drew Belle as busts. Drew played for the Hershey Bears for 5 seasons and recorded one 61 point season. I also released RFAs Jordan Yip and Timothy Cane as busts. I also released UFA Troy Rypien, 2019 53rd overall, as a bust. After signing everyone I have 48 players and $7.313M in cap.

Pre-Season
Simon Solis is making his NHL debut this season and I hope to capture rookie of the year with him. Also Jesus Boulerice who was drafted 152nd(6th) in 2021 has turned Franchise!!! He is 25 years old though. I just noticed something else that is kind of neat. Andre Burakovsky and Connor Carrick are the only players remaining from the previous administration. So it will only be another 2-3 years before the team has been entirely manufactured by me.

I am excited to see what this top line does.

2027-2028 Season Start
Simon Solis went berserk in the preseason with 5 goals and 11 points. So everything is going according to plan thus far, LOL. Joel Eriksson Ek had 11 assists and 13 points! I am really looking forward to watching this season unfold.

Trade:
WSH - G Raymond Anthony Age: 24 OVR: 82 Med Fringe Starter, 3YL $1.20M
ANA - 2028 3rd ANA
2028 4th ANA
They came to me with this deal and I gladly accepted. My scouts tell me this year is going to be a great draft year. Then 3 games before break Pirnes got injured so Pekka Salo was called up to cover for the 2 games he would miss. When I sent him back down he didn’t clear waivers and none other than Anaheim claimed him. I guess that was their way of sticking it to me for adding that 4th round pick onto their offer.

All-Star Break: 38-8-0 for 76pts, 1st in Division and 1st in Conference
This has been an excellent bounce back season after our miserable post season last year. No one compares to us and we are domination, 3.804gfpg and 1.826gapg. Jesus Boulerice has absolutely blossomed on the top line and is 2nd in the NHL in scoring with 55 points. Simon Solis is on pace for a 60+ point season with 35 points. However he is only 6th in the rookie scoring race...

The Hershey Bears aren't as exciting but are still respectable with a record of 24-15-2. They are 8th in the AHL. Troy Komisarek is leading the team with 29 points even though he missed 5 games to injury.

Trade Deadline: 47-15-3 for 97pts, 1st in Division and 1st in Conference
A couple games before the deadline Tuomas Pirnes was injured again and I was forced to call up Yves Begevin. This meant I no longer had any goalie prospects in Hershey. So I signed 2026 180th(6th) overall pick Morgan Petrovicky Age: 21 OVR: 75 Low Backup. We remain 1st in the NHL but have lost a bit of our lead. Jesus Boulerice is still 2nd in the NHL in scoring with 77 points. My golden child Joel Eriksson Ek is only 1 point off from his career high with 63 points. Simon Solis has remained consistent and now has 51 points and is 4th in the rookie scoring race.

End of Season: 56-20-6 for 118pts, 1st in Division and 1st in Conference
I thought we would break the 60 win plateau this season but we ended up losing more than I thought in the final stretch. Probably because Pirnes has been injured and still is. We still finished 1st in the NHL by 5 points. Jesus Boulerice had a sensational season with an insane 82 assists and 95 points. Joel Eriksson Ek smashed his career high with an amazing 67 assist and 78 point season. Simon Solis had a remarkable rookie year with 27 goals and 66 points, good for 2nd among rookies. Everyone else went cold but 2026 1st overall pick by the Flames Ross Reid finished with 76 points.

Hershey ended up 4th in the AHL and 45-28-3. Troy Komisarek finished with 64 points and Andrew Versteeg was right next to him with 63. Franklin Trotter trailed right behind them with 57 points.

Started as the Bruins to try out a few things.

Blew up the team by trading Krejci, Bergeron, Krug, Rask, DeBrusk, Carlo and Lauzon for Rielly, McDavid, Ekblad and 2017 1st rnd pick.

Won the Presidents Trophy last year after missing the playoffs in each of the previous years, but got eliminated in the 2nd round by the Habs, who lost to the Coyotes in the Finals thanks to a Conn Smythe performance by Tuukka Rask.

Still have a little over 10 million left in cap space, so might get a rental or two at the TDL.

Also the funniest thing happened - the Oilers have somehow turned Adam Clendening from waiver fodder into a high elite potential defenseman.

edit:

dealt Calvert + 2020 2nd to Detroit for Teemu Pulkkinen and Beleskey 10% retained + 2020 7th to Florida for Rick Nash at the TDL.

Made it to the playoffs, where I got revenge on the Habs in the first round, then beat Bolts in the 2nd round and Caps in the conference finals, making it to the finals where we met...

Arizona Coyotes who made it there the 2nd year in a row. Lost the series in Game 7 after another Conn Smythe performance from Rask.
Slightly regret trading him there now.

Posted in the wrong section! I'm going to copy and paste my first three years here...

Vancouver Canucks 2015-2016

Vancouver Canucks GM, Jim Benning, has been fired before the start of the 2015-2016 NHL season. He will be replaced by GM AveryStar4Eva. Management wen't their separate ways with Benning because he was not committed to the rebuild and felt that the current roster could go deep in the playoffs. The new GM has gone on the record stating he will trade away impact player for future pieces before the season starts.

Rules

  • Injures: Off, Trade Difficulty: Hard
  • I won't be trading for prospects as I feel their value is often to low for their potential. I also won't be signing free agent prospects. (This is to make the rebuild more realistic)
  • When signing/re-signing players I must give them the exact amount of money they request. I can change the amount of years however.
  • Only red for green trades. The other team has to want the player I'm trading them and be willing to give up the assets. This is to prevent poaching all the players I want.
Pre Season Trades

Tampa Bay: D - D. Hamhuis (87) - 32 - 4.5M/1Y
Vancouver: 2016 1st, 2016 2nd

Detroit: RW - R. Vrbata (87) - 33 - 2.5M/1Y (50%)
Vancouver: 2016 1st, 2016 2nd

GM Comments: Both players were adamant about joining teams that had a chance at the cup this year. I figured to maximize their return I would trade them before the season started. Doing so I gained four more high picks.

Pre-Season Signings

RW - A. Semin (83) - 31 - 2.8M/1Y
D - C. Erhoff (84) - 33 - 4.575M/1Y

GM Comments: Trading away Vrbata and Hamhuis allowed to sign both of these players to fill their positions. We are happy that both were available late in the free agency season.

Starting Roster

(A) D. Sedin (88) - (C) H. Sedin (88) - A. Semin (83)
A. Burrows (83) - B. Horvat (83) - J. Hansen (84)
E. Etem (81) - B. Sutter (84) - D. Dorsett (80)
C. Higgins (81) - L. Vey (80) - A. Cracknell (77)

(A) A. Edler (86) - C. Tanev (85)
L. Sbisa (82) - C. Erhoff (84)
M. Bartowski (78) - Y. Weber (82)

R. Miller (86)
J. Markstrom (82)

Trade Deadline

Ottawa: D - C. Erhoff - 33 - 4.575M/1Y
Vancouver: 2016 2nd

New York Rangers: RW - A. Semin - 31 - 2.8M/1Y
Vancouver: 2016 2nd

GM Comments: We aren't in a position to make a playoff run and both players are on expiring contracts. Both players now have the chance at the Stanley Cup. We now have three 1st round picks and 5 2nd round picks which bods well for our future.

Season Stats

Vancouver finished 23rd in the league with a 39-38-5 record. Vancouver will gave a top 10 draft pick and a chance at a top 3 pick via the lottery.

D. Sedin - 21G, 40A, 61P
H. Sedin - 13G, 47A, 60P
B. Sutter - 17G, 23A, 40P

R. Miller - 33W, 36L, 2.55GGA, .918SV%

GM Comments: We finished with almost a .500 average thanks to Ryan Miller. He was the MVP of the team this year.

That is year one. Let me know what you guys think. It might be a long rebuild.

Vancouver Canucks 2016-2017

The Canucks hold the 8th overall pick in this years draft. It's rumoured that they are willing to trade multiple 2nd's to gain another 1st round pick. Word is the Sedins and Ryan Miller are unhappy with the team choosing to rebuild. All three players may be on the move.

Draft Day Trades

Winnipeg: 3 2016 2nd's
Vancouver: 2016 1st

Nashville: G - R. Miller (86) - 6M/1Y
Vancouver: 2016 2nd, 2017 2nd

Colorado: H. Sedin (88) - 35 - 7M/2Y, D. Sedin (88) - 35 - 3.5M/2Y (50%), 2016 3rd
Vancouver: 2016 1st, 2017 1st, D - B. Stuart (81) - 36 - 3.6M/1Y

GM Comments: Today was my toughest day as a GM. Moving the Sedin's was not an easy call. They have been the face of this franchise and will both have their numbers retired here the day they call it quits. However, this gives them a real chance at winning a cup before they retire, they get to say together, and it builds our future. Trading Miller was the same case; he is aging and wants a few more chances at winning a cup.

38th: RW - P. Laine - Med Top 9F

GM Comments: I feel in this draft we addressed the biggest area of need in defence prospects. Having 5 1st rounders is huge for our future. Adding a high end centre prospect and a couple depth RW's also doesn't hurt.

Re-Sign

LW - E. Etem (83) - 24 - Low Elite - 1.85M/1Y
LW - S. Baertschi (79) - 23 - Low Top 9F - 0.8M/1Y

Free Agency

G - A. Khudobin (80) - 30 - 1.4M/1Y
RW - T. Purcell (83) - 31 - 3.45/1Y
C - J. Schroeder (80) - 25 - 0.85M/1Y
C - D. Moore (82) - 36 - 2.5M/1Y
RW - C. Stewart (82) - 28 - 2.575M/1Y
D - K. Yandle (87) - 30 - 6.575M/1Y
D - B. Coburn (84) - 31 - 5.425M/1Y
D - R. Murray (88) - 22 - Med Elite - 3.650M/1Y

GM Comments: While rebuilding we feel it is important to bring in leadership to mentor the younger players. Being able to sign Murray as an RFA for the cost of a 2nd round draft pick was the best move i've made as a GM. We are going to continue to find ways to take advantage of the cap.

Starting Lines

E. Etem (85) - (A) B. Horvat (87) - (A) J. Hansen (84)
A. Burrows (82) - B. Sutter (84) - T. Purcell (83)
S. Baertschi (80) - D. Morre (82) - C. Stewart (82)
C. Higgins (81) - J. Schroder (80) - D. Dorsett (80)

R. Murray (88) - K. Yandle (87)
(C) A. Edler (86) - C. Tanev (85)
L. Sbisa (82) - B. Coburn (84)

J. Markstrom (82)
A. Khudobin (80)

GM Comments: I think our team has the most solid defence in the league. Our offence and goaltender are not up to par, but we are slowly building into a solid team.

Trade Deadline

Philadelphia: D - K. Yandle (88) - 31 - 6.575/1Y
Vancouver: 2017 1st

New York Rangers: D - B. Coburn (84) - 32 - 2.7M/1Y (50%)
Vancouver: 2017 2nd, 2017 3rd

Anaheim: RW - T. Purcell (83) - 32 - 3.45M/1Y
Vancouver: 2017 2nd

GM Comments: We are currently the last place team in the league so it made sense to add to our already strong prospect pool by trading off UFA's to be. Best of luck to these players on their new teams.

Team Stats

Canucks finish 27th overall with a record of 32-38-12.

B. Horvat - 18G, 34A, 52P
J. Hansen - 17G, 33A, 50P
E. Etem - 20G, 26A, 46P

J. Markstrom - 22W, 24L, 2.69GGA, .914SV%

GM Comments: Year two of the rebuild is done and we are heading into the draft with 3 1st's and 3 2nd's. Here is hoping to adding some great future pieces to the team.

Vancouver Canucks 2017-2018

In the third year and second draft as GM of the Vancouver Canucks, AveryStar4Eva is looking to gain some high potential prospects with his bundle of draft picks. Vancouver holds the 6th, 12th, and 18th overall draft picks this year as well as 3 2nd round picks. Look for him to move up in the draft as he did last year.

Draft Day Trades

Columbus: 3 2017 2nd's, D - J. Subban (69) - 22 - High 7th D - 0.7M/1Y
Vancouver: 2017 1st (4)

GM Comments: Columbus knew this pick would be between two goalies and they had no interest in anyone else in the top 10 or goalie prospects, so they traded away the pick for a quantity of draft picks. This worked well for us because we are in need of a high end goalie prospect.

Notable Picks

4th: G - S. Skinner - High Starter
6th: LW - J. Laierre - Med Top 6F
12th: RW - D. Holt - Med Top 9F
18th: LW - J. Asplund - Med Top 6F

GM Comments: We addressed our biggest need in a high end goalie prospect and added three good forward prospects. Can't complain.

Re-Singing Phase

C - B. Horvat (88) - 22 - High Elite - 5.425M/6Y
LW - E. Etem (85) - 25 - 4.075M/3Y
D - R. Murray (88) - 23 - Med Elite - 6.950/7Y
D - B. Hutton (82) - 24 - 1.825M/4Y
G - J. Markstrom (82) - 27 - 1.1M/2Y

GM Comments: We were able to lock up our two best players for 6 and 7 years at a fair rate. The fans have no need to worry about these young players going anywhere.

Free Agency

D - Andrej Sustr (84) - 26 - 2.4M/3Y
D - Cody Franson (84) - 29 - 5.9M/1Y
G - Ben Bishop (88) - 30 - 9.375M/1Y
C - B. Boyle (81) - 32 - 1.75M/1Y
LW - M. Latta (82) - 26 - 1.65M/2Y
LW - D. Booth (80) - 32 - 0.975M/1Y
RW - J. Williams (82) - 35 - 2.9M/1Y

Summer Trades

Tampa Bay Lightning: D - L. Sbisa (82) - 27 - 3.8M/1Y
Vancouver: 2018 3rd, 2018 4th

Starting Lines

E. Etem (85) - (A) B. Horvat (88) - J. Vitanen (83)
H. Shinkaruk (81) - J. McCann (85) - (A) J. Hansen (84)
M. Latta (82) - B. Sutter (83) - J. Williams (82)
B. Booth (80) 0 B. Boyle (81) - D. Doresett (80)

R. Murray (88) - C. Franson (84)
(C) A. Edler (86) - C. Tanev (85)
B. Huddon (82) - A. Sustr (84)

B. Bishop (88)
J. Markstrom (83)

Trade Deadline

The Vancouver Canucks once again find themselves outside of the playoffs and are going to be sellers.

Toronto: D - C. Franson (85) - 30 - 5.9M/1Y
Vancouver: RW - R. Rarnteau (81) - 35 - 1.5M/1Y, 2018 2nd, 2018 3rd

Nashville: J. Hansen (85) - 31 - 2.5M/1Y, 2018 3rd
Vancouver: 2018 1st

Calgary: G - B. Bishop (88) - 31 - 4.7M/1Y (50%)
Vancouver: 2018 1st, 2018 2nd

Season Stats

Another terrible year for for Vancouver finishing 28th in the league with a record of 35-40-7. Will this be the year they finally get a top 3 pick? Probably not...

B. Horvat - 21G, 45A, 66P
E. Etem - 18G, 41A, 59P
H. Shinkaruk - 34G, 23A, 57P
J. McCann - 21G, 34A, 55P
B. Sutter - 16G, 32A, 48P

GM Comments: I think we are finally pulling it together as an offensive team. Shink and McCann finished 2nd and 3rd in rookie scoring. With three 1st's and three 2nd's it's going to be another great draft.

Washington 2028-2029 Season to Playoffs

Previous Post

Washington 2028-2029 Season
I released RFA Radek Cechmanek and UFA Ruslan Datsyuk as busts. I decided to released UFA John Klingberg as he's been steadily regressing and is now 35 years old. I was happy to only release 1 low potential unsigned prospect, a goalie. Andre Burakovsky thought I was a push over asking for $7M+ for 4 years at 33 years of age! So I said to-da-loo and good luck in free agency Andre. Leaving me with 47 players signed and $13.672M in cap to play with. Rudy Raymond has turned Franchise! I acquired him in a trade with Calgary at the 2027 Draft, he was Elite.

Trade:

WSH - D Ed Alos Age: 26 OVR: 84 Low Top 6 D, 2YL $2.500M
G Guy Fontaine Age: 20 OVR: 65 Med Backup, 2028 180th(6th)
BOS - 2029 3rd BOS
2029 4th BOS
2029 6th BOS
2029 7th BOS
2030 4th BOS
Ed only played 23 games for us last season and was normally a healthy scratch. I thought it was about time I flipped him.

Free Agency:
Wow Andre is now asking for 8 years and CGY has made an offer, LOL! I'm quite happy with my decision...
LW Sonny Milano Age: 32 OVR: 96 Exact Elite, 2YL $13.000M - I beat out 3 other teams with this offer.

Top Prospects:
LW Jake Delmas Age: 21 OVR: 73 Med Elite
C Timo Laitinen Age: 19 OVR: 71 Med Top 6 F
C Magnus Grossmann Age: 19 OVR: 67 Low Top 6 F

RW Randy Larsen Age: 18 OVR: 60 Med Top 9 F
LW Rene Daumont Age: 20 OVR: 83 Med Top 9 F
LW Serge Goulet Age: 20 OVR: 70 Med Top 9 F
LW Henrik Grossmann Age: 23 OVR: 83 Med Top 9 F
RW Steffen Artmeier Age: 19 OVR: 68 Low Top 9 F
LW Donald Champion Age: 23 OVR: 83 Low Top 9 F

Pre-Season
Emmanuel Tremblay is going to get his shot in the NHL at the ripe age of 26. I am hoping he turns out like Joel Eriksson Ek.

2028-2029 Season Start
The team only lost 1 game in the pre-season so nothing to change thus far. The team looks strong and it will be interesting to see if Milano can capture the Art Ross or Richard trophies from the 2nd line.

All-Star Break: 35-9-2 for 72pts, 1st in Division and 1st in Conference
We have a 9 points lead on 2nd place in the NHL and are looking dominant. Sonny Milano is leading our team with 43 points. Marcus Lindback and Jesus Boulerice each have 37 points and Simon Solis has 34. Rudy Raymond is 3rd in rookie scoring with 29 points. As you would expect both net minders have been sensational.

The Hershey Bears are 26-9-6 and are 1st in the AHL. Troy Komisarek is leading the team with 38 points while Franklin Trotter and Jimmy Messier are right behind him with 35 apiece. First year pro OFD Jeremy Stapleton is 4th on the team with 32 points. I foresee big things for him because of 2 stats, 90 Offensive Awareness and 98 Slat Shot Accuracy.

Trade Deadline: 45-13-5 for 95pts, 1st in Division and 1st in Conference
We are still 9 points ahead of 2nd place and perhaps we will break the 60 win mark this season. We have a shot but we can only lose 4 more games. Sonny Milano and Jesus Boulerice now share the team lead with 52 points. Marcus Lindback, Simon Solis, and Joe Veleno round out the top 5 with 49, 46, and 42 points.

The Bears are also dominating going 38-11-6 and good for 1st in the AHL. Jimmy Messier now has the team lead with 47 points. Troy Komisarek is right there with 46 points. OFD Jeremy Stapleton has continued to impress with 13 goals and 41 points.

Trade:
I saw John Klingberg on the NYR trade block as an 80ovr, it would seem I made the correct choice in letting him go to FA. It looks like the Rangers are the island of misfit toys as I noticed John Tavares(83ovr) and Brandon Saad(82ovr) were on their block as well. Ilya Samsonov was on the Penguins block which is kind of neat to see. I traded him to them way back in 2022-2023 and he's been playing for them ever since. He recorded a 30 win season 2 years after the trade and appears to have peaked and declined since.(still 86ovr at 32 years old).

WSH - 2029 1st WSH
2029 2nd WSH
ANA - D Joey Morrow Age: 19 OVR: 66 High Top 4 D, 3YL $0.780M
2029 6th ANA
2029 7th ANA
I had my eye on this guy in last years draft because he's an Enforcer type. However he went 6th overall and no one would let me trade up from my 9th overall pick(CGY). It seems they've gone sore on him as he was on their trade block. I'm willing to take a gamble with him although I wish they hadn't signed an ELC.

End of Season: 60-17-5 for 125pts, 1st in Division and 1st in Conference
We did it! We won 60 games and finished 1st in the NHL head and shoulders above the competition(14pts over 2nd). My golden boy Joel ran into some injury trouble in his old age(32 LOL) and derailed an incredible season finishing with just 66 games played. Just so people get a better picture of why I love him so. Consider this, Joe Veleno who is 92ovr scored 54 points in 82 games. Which is still great and he plays a different role on the team. However Joel is only 83ovr and scored 1 point more in 16 fewer games. The guy is the 2nd line center of my dreams, he's everything Evgeny Kuznetsov was suppposed to be, with 83 faceoffs! I am just going to list the player stats:

HYB Tuomas Pirnes - 57gp - 42W - 11L - 0SOL - 1.790gaa - .937sv% - 10so(2nd in NHL, 1st had 72gp...)
Tommy Tuzzolino - 28gp - 18W - 6L - 3SOL - 1.940gaa - .936sv% - 5so

Vancouver Canucks 2018-2019

Vancouver holds the 5th overall pick in this draft as well as many other high draft picks. However, rumour has it that AveryStar4Eva is not impressed by this draft class and may move assets for the next draft.

Draft Trades

Minnesota: 3 2018 2nd's
Vancouver: 2019 1st, 2019 2nd

Montreal: C. Cassels (84) - 23 - RFA
Vancouver: 2019 1st, 2019 3rd

Notable Draft Picks

5th: RW - X. Oshie - Low Top 6F
17th: C - E. Kurtz - Med Top 9F

GM Comments: Not my favourite draft I have to admit. We will have to wait and see how our picks pan out. Trading Cassels was a tough call as he will have a bright future, but we have three centre's very similar to him.

Re-Signing Phase

C - S. Steel (77) - 20 - High Top 6F - 0.950M/3Y
LW - H. Shinkaruk (82) - 23 - 1.050M/2Y
RW - P. Laine (72) - 20 - Med Top 9F - 0.900M/3Y
RW - J. Puljujavi (70) - 20 - Med Bottom 6F - 0.850M/3Y
D - R. Nabokov (85) - 22 - Med Top 4D - 0.950M/3Y
D - L. Geen (76) - 20 - High Elite - 0.950M/3Y
D - O. Juolevi - 20 - Low Top 4D - 0.950M/3Y
D - M. Niemelainen - 20 - High Top 4D - 0.925/3Y

Free Agency

G - J. Halak (86) - 33 - 6.675/1Y
RW - J. Sekak (82) - 26 - 1.475/2Y
C - K. Brodziak (81) - 34 - 1.025/1Y
C - P. Stastny (87) - 32 - 7.325/2Y
C - B. Little (87) - 30 - 7.575/1Y
LW - J. Van Riemsdyk (87) - 29 - 6.525/5Y
LW - C. Balisy (80) - 26 - 0.975M/1Y
G - A. Nilsson (82) - 28 - 1.5M/1Y

GM Comments: This has been a great free agency. I think players are starting to realize what a good deal it is to sign here. Lots of money on one year contracts. If we are in a position to contend we will keep them, if not we'll trade them to a contender.

Pre-Season Trades

New Jersey: D - C. Tanev - 28 - 4.450M/2Y, 2016 2nd (MIN)
Vancouver: 2019 1st (NJD)

Boston: D - A. Edler - 32 - 5.000M/1Y, 2 2019 3rd's
Vancouver: 2019 1st (BOS)

GM Comments: These two have been rocks on our backend for many years. Some of the rookies coming in this year out performed them so packing them with picks to obtain 1st rounders was a good move for us. We now have five first round picks before the season has started. Let's hope some of those teams play poorly and we can end up with a couple top ten picks.

Starting Lines

J. Van Riemsdyk (87) - (C) B. Horvat (88) - B. Little (87)
E. Etem (85) - P. Statny (87) - J. McCann (87)
H. Shinkaruk (82) - (A) B. Sutter (84) - J. Vitanen (85)
M. Latta (83) - K. Brodziak (81) - J. Sekac (83)
D. Dorsett (80)

(A) R. Murray (91) - L. Green (87)
O. Juolevi (84) - R. Nabokov (85)
B. Hutton (82) - A. Sustr (82)

J. Halak (86)
A. Nilsson (82)

GM Comments: Now this looks like a team that can do some damage. We bolstered our offence and though we've got three rookie defencemen in our top 4, we feel that their play has warranted the ice time.

Trade Deadline

GM Comments: Finally after four years as a GM we will not be trading off assets for the deadline. We have recorded 35 wins already and are looking for a playoff spot. No trades will be made today.

Season Stats

Despite a 46-33-3 record the Vancouver Canucks miss the playoffs for a fourth strait year.

B. Little - 21G, 47A, 68P
J. McCann - 35G, 31A, 66P
J. Van Riemsdyk - 29G, 36A, 65P
P. Stastny - 12G, 48A, 60P
B. Horvat - 19G, 31A, 50P

J. Halak - 39W, 27L, 2.630GAA, .911SV%

GM Comments: It doesn't get much worse then this. We were 5 games over 100, 95 points and we still missed the playoffs.

I've decided to build a team from the AHL up. I will only make minor moves for the NHL team, and will require my AHL players to play for at least 3 years ala Detroit before being brought up. Thinking of these teams:
Utica Comets (Vancouver Canucks)
Albany Devils (New Jersey Devils)
Charlotte Checkers (Carolina Hurricanes)
San Antonio Rampage (Colarado Avs)

Any input is appreciated. Looking to start up later tonight.

Interesting idea, I like it. I think Utica would be the easiest, with all those great prospects in the Vancouver system, but Albany would be a good challenge, IMO

Vancouver Canucks 2019-2020

Holy crap. The disappointment from missing out on the playoffs doesn't last long as Vancouver holds the 1st and 3rd pick in this years draft. Along with three other first round picks it's shaping up to be a great draft for Vancouver.

Notable Picks

1st: LW - R. Smolenak - Med Elite
3rd: D - N. Ellis - Med Elite
15: G - L. Playfair - Med Elite
20th: D: R. Jensen - Med Elite

GM Comments: What a draft! All of the players I selected were high on my board. Can't wait to see these guys in action.

Re-Signing Phase

LW - J. Asplund (75) - 21 - Med Top 9F - 0.975M/3Y
LW - J. Lapierre (72) - 20 - Med Top 6F - 0.925M/3Y

RW - J. Vitanen (84) - 22 - Med Top 6F - 2.250M/3Y
C - B. Little (87) - 31 - 6.125M/2Y

GM Comments: Glad we could bring back players at good rates. We let Halak go to free agency because he was asking for to many years on his contact at the age of 34.

Free Agency

C - K. Chipchura (81) - 33 - 1.925M/1Y
C - R. Spooner (84) - 27 - 3.425/2Y

Off Season Trades

Boston: C - S. Steel (83) - 21 - High Top 6F - 0.950M/2Y, C - P. Stastny (87) - 33 - 7.325/1Y
Vancouver: G - M. Subban (89) - 26 - 5.550M/2Y, 2020 2nd (BOS)

GM Comments: While we have two very good goalie prospects both aren't quite ready. With signing Spooner it gave us the chance to give up a couple of good play making centres and add a great goalie right now.

Starting Lines

Vancouver currently is sitting pretty with a 47-11-4 record. Hopefully it'll be enough to make it this year. I saw Kevin Hayes is on the trade block, but we couldn't get a deal done between us and the Rangers.

Season Stats

Record: 58-17-7

B. Little - 22G, 55A, 77P
J. McCann - 27G, 47A, 74P
E. Emet - 31G, 32A, 63P
J. Van Riemsdyk - 22G, 38A, 60P

M. Subban - 50W, 17L, 2.070GAA, .928SV%

GM Comments: After years of being a bottom feeder it sure looks nice being at the top of the standings. We are a young team so expect us to be on top for a long time. On top of that our new goal made the record books for most wins in a season.

Playoffs

Round One, Nashville Predators: L 3-2, L 3-1, OTW 4-3, W 3-1, W 2-1, W 4-1

Round Two, San Jose Sharks: OTL 4-3, L 5-3, L 3-0, OTW 4-3, L 6-3

GM Comments: After a great season I'm happy with the way all the guys performed in the playoffs. We didn't bring home the cup, but it was a good learning experience.

NHL ENTRY DRAFT

With the 20th overall selection, the Carolina Hurricanes select out of the USHL centre Joshua Dunham.

“Finally someone bites the bullet and selects this talented young centre.”-NBC lead commentator John Scott

“Dunham was considered a top 10 pick pre-draft, but there must have been something that Gms didn't like, because he's fallen all the way to the last third of the first round.”-Pierre McGuire

“With 2018 40th overall pick Jesper Kruger failing to meet expectations, the Hurricanes don't have any high end centres outside of the NHL. This pick could go a long way in giving them flexibility down the middle going forward.”-JS

“I'm hearing quite a few Gms questioned Dunham's commitment to getting better. Not to mention, he made eye contact with Brian Burke's hair, which is something ALL agents instruct prospects never to do. Once word got out that he did that, things snowballed from there, and it seems like most Gms weren't willing to take a risk on someone with that sort of recklessness”-PM

“The Hurricanes are a team who can take a risk on a C. They've got Calder winner Billy Shantz, a 20 year old budding superstar as their number 1 guy. They also just locked up Elias Lindholm who is a very serviceable 2C to a long term deal.”

PROSPECT PROFILE
Listed at only 5'10” and 174 lbs, Dunham is a smaller two way centre. His skillset leans towards the offensive side of the game with a great shot and great puck skills, along with elite skating. His physical game is severely lacking.
__________________________________________

27th overall, the Carolina Hurricanes select Finnish goalie Timo Louhi

“I'm not sure I see the appeal of taking a goalie with a first round pick here when the Hurricanes have starting goalie Tobias Sandberg signed for the next 7 years.”-JS

“I agree. We saw the Hurricanes move out last year's 21st overall pick Vaclav Khudobin at the deadline in order to acquire a rental. Wouldn't it have been smarter to keep Khudobin who fills a much bigger need as a right hand forward, and move this pick instead?”

“Don't get me wrong, Louhi is a great young goalie who projects as a future starter, but I don't see why Carolina would burn a first round pick on a goalie when they have much greater needs to fill”

PROSPECT PROFILE
A hybrid goalie with great reflexes, Louhi is considered small by NHL goalie standards at barely 6 feet tall and only 165lbs. He is ready to back up in the AHL as soon as this upcoming season.

RE-SIGN RUNDOWN: MULTIPLE PLAYERS SIGNED TO BRIDGE DEALS – LIPIANEN HOLDING OUT – YAK AND VRANA CASH IN

After being burned by Cody Ceci when they locked up their promising young defender a few seasons ago to an 8 year deal, as well as being burned by multiple UFAs walking from the unexciting small market team, the Hurricanes have continued their strategy of resorting to bridge deals to get the most out of promising young talent.

Mills, Day, Scuderi, Salei, and Saarela all signed deals that are 2 years or less in length. That is a promising list of players, and there is no doubt that if they all pan out, the Hurricanes will have to make some tough choices in two years as they won't be able to fit everybody under the cap.

Goalie Santeri Lipianen is far apart in negotiations with the GMDP regime, and since EA is too lazy to include arbitration in this game, he'll just have to suck it up. He was tendered a qualifying offer by the Hurricanes, so they'll retain his rights. The next step for Lipianen's party would be to either sign an offer sheet with a competing team, or accept the qualifying offer. Lipianen wants a long term deal in the 5M range with a LNTC.

If Lipainen doesn't attract an offer sheet and accepts a qualifying offer, he could be a UFA as soon as next off season. After giving up Stefan Elliot for Lipainen, can Carolina really risk losing him for nothing?

Vrana and Yakupov both cashed in on long term deals. Yakupov, a UFA was looking for a 4 year deal. He is considered a risky signing. Yakupov had a fantastic season last year, but his numbers were well above what he has produced over the previous few seasons where he barely produced at a 3rd line rate while being suspect defensively.

RE-SIGN RUNDOWN
-Santeri Lipiainen and the Hurricanes far apart in contract negotiations. Possible offer sheet candidate? Hurricanes tender a qualifying offer but negotiations are stalled from there.
-Ladislav Salei signs a 2 year 2.4M deal, will be an RFA when it ends
-Jesse Mills signs a 2 year 1M 1 way deal.
-Nail Yakupov signs a 4 year 3.8M deal (LNTC)
-Andy Scuderi signs a 2 year 1.7M deal
-Vrana signs a 6 year 2.8M per extension.
-Saarela signs a 1 year 2.2M extension

BREAKING
@bobmckenzie-”Hearing Gundersen refuses to sign in Colorado. Unhappy about not getting a full time NHL spot. Walked out of the AHL last year after only 10 games. Refused to accept qualifying offer, threatening to go back to Sweden.”

@bobmckenzie-”Once July 1st hits, the former 5th overall pick will sign an offer sheet that only nets Colorado a 2nd round pick. He is being aggressively shopped as a result”

@bobmckenzie-”Gundersen is highly coveted despite attitude issues. Will return a very good prospect. Likely to get shipped out East”

BREAKING: [CAR/COL] SEAN DAY TRADED TO COLORADO FOR TORSTEN GUNDERSEN

Carolina have made a game breaking trade by acquiring the disgruntled Swede who has had his offensive capabilities compared to the likes of Erik Karlsson.

Gundersen has had a rocky few years since being chosen 5th overall by the Avalanche in 2017. Primarily playing in Sweden, as a result of his elite offensive IQ, Gundersen built up a reputation as the next great OFD, but refused to come over to the US unless he was guaranteed an NHL spot.

Gundersen and the Avalanche came to an agreement, but after only 10 games, in a perplexing move, he was assigned to the AHL. Gundersen stuck it out in the AHL for 9 games before refusing to report.

Gundersen has lit up Sweden, but only put up 3 points and was a -3 in the 10 games he played in the NHL. He didn't fare much better in the AHL where in 9 games he put up 3 points and was a -3. This caused some heads to turn, but it is rumoured that most GMs who were in on him believed that this was a symptom of the toxic environment Gundersen was in.

The Avalanche found themselves not only without the cap space to meet Gundersen's inflated contract demands, but also in a position where even if they freed up the cap space, Gundersen likely wouldn't return to the organization. Gundersen's agent had apparently conveyed to the Avalanche that they were requesting a trade.

Gundersen, who had only played 19 pro games in North America was asking for a 3 year deal worth at least 3M per. The Avalanche organization not only scoffed at this, but realized that if they let things progress to an offer sheet scenario, they would lose their former 5th overall pick for only a 2nd round pick. As a result, they worked quickly to get Gundersen traded.

Sean Day was picked 4th overall by the Hurricanes, and at the age of 22 is ready to play in the NHL. The Avalanche were asking for Sean Day or Jesse Mills in order to pull the trigger on the trade. Both Day and Mills are young future superstars who are still on low enough salaries to fit in with Colorado's cap.

Gundersen is considered to be the better player now, and significantly better at the offensive side of the game, but Day's ceiling is much higher than Gundersen's ceiling.

MEDIA REACTIONS

“I was caught off guard. I've heard it is always hard to get traded, I guess I've found out.”-Sean Day on the trade.

“We're very happy with how this has resolved. We think playing with Shea Weber on the top pairing is a perfect fit for MY client and is exactly what MY client deserves.”-Gundersen's slimey agent

“Things weren't a fit with Gundersen for numerous reasons, but Day is a hell of a talent, and will be a cornerstone of our organization for the next decade. We feel like both teams put our balls on the table in this trade, and it worked out well. Balls on the table.”-Avalanche management

“It was really hard having to move Day, but we couldn't turn down a chance to get a player with offensive upside like Gundersen. We think Gundersen is ready to play top pairing minutes right now, where as Day might need another season or two before he hits his prime. We think we're a cup contender, and with older players like Weber or Ryan being a big part of our group, getting a player who can get into the mix right away is huge.”-GMDP on why he pulled the trigger on the trade

“Mills and Day are both different types of players. We have lots of mobile puck moving types in our system, but we don't have any younger players with Mills skillset. He's 6'6" and over 200 lbs with an unreal shot and great skating. We think both Mills and Day will be stars in this league, but moving Mills would have been a non-starter. Mills will be a cornerstone for our team.-GMDP on why Carolina opted to offer up Day and not Mills

TSN REACTS

“Colorado completely mismanaged things with Gundersen. All things considered, I think they got off lucky. They got an elite prospect for a player who had a reputation, whether deserved or not, as entitled and petulant. It was this, or leave him open for a 2nd round pick as compensation. They got the better end of the deal.”

“I'm not sure about Day, or even Mills for that matter. Will they be NHL players? They already are. But are either of them going to be an impact guy like most people think Gundersen who is the same age already is? I don't know. Gundersen is a special player offensively, and Colorado management should be ashamed that they let things get this bad.....like why on earth was he in the AHL last season? That was inexcusable”

“One thing that people have to remember, Gundersen has hardly played in the NHL, and when he did for a few games last season, he was getting minimal time from Colorado. For all this talk about offensive upside, he has had 6 points in 20 pro games, and is a combined -6. He's no more proven than Day or Mills....I'd even go as far as to say Sean Day is more proven. 17 goals and 41 points with a +23 rating in the AHL. We just don't know if Gundersen's offense will translate to the NHL. David Rundbland anyone?”.

“Wait a minute...you're going to tell me that Gundersen, the same player who lead Sweden in scoring at last year's World Championship and helped carry them to a gold medal isn't proven? In my opinion, this guy will be a top 5 scorer amongst defenseman next season....you can hold me to that.”

BILLY SHANTZ: WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?
Billy Shantz shocked the hockey world last season. After being taken 4th overall by the Hurricanes, he played big minutes, put up 38 goals, was a +21, and swept Calder voting against talented rookies drafted ahead of him like Tyrone Peluso and Blake Shannon.

Players have come in to the NHL before and had great rookie campaigns that they haven't been able to live up to. What could the next step be fore Billy Shantz? Is the 6'2" shoot first centre a future Richard winner? Or was his first season a combination of luck and timing that he'll never be able to replicate again?

After looking like a 10 year vet in the regular season, Carolina fans were crudely reminded that Billy Shantz is still a kid during the opening round series with Washington where he only managed to put up 2 goals and 2 assists in 7 games and was a -1. Is this a sign that Shantz will fall back down to earth, and regress to what most scouts expected him to become when drafted, a solid 2C but nothing more? Or will Shantz take a step forward and prove he is an elite player in the NHL?

Minnesota Wild Under New Management

Decided to try a Wild GM mode. Havent seen anyone at least lately do them. Not 100% sure why they seem like an interesting team with a lot of older players and a handful of solid potential prospects. Other then a couple iffy contracts at best I don't see them being anymore challenging then any other team. Lets get started.

Personally I always start by gauging the defensemen first. That's where the trades begin.

Minn: Scandella 5y 4m, Faith 0y .575, 2016 6,7(FLA), 2017 6
Edm: Klefbom 8y 4.6m (Top4 Red)

This was my first move to address contract issues while not really gaining a cap space I did gain a top 6 Dman who I needed to play with Dumba and has a long term deal that may or may not pan out.

Minn: Spurgeon 5y 5.2m, 2017 5,7
Ott: Ceci (Top4 Red) 1y .900

Similar to above except this was a pure contract dump that I didn't like nor would make myself so shipped him off for youth and someone to play with Brodin on 2nd pair.

Minn: Olofsson, Duke, 2016 4,7 2017 4
Arz: Duclair (Elite Yellow)

Needed a solid youth right winger while not giving up a lot of players.

Minn: Koivu 3y 6.7m, Dubnyk 6y 4.3m and Porter 1y .600
Det: Datsyuk 2y 7.5m, Mrazek 1y .750, Larkin 3y .925 and a 2017 3rd.

Probably my biggest move for this year. I really needed a 1st line center and had an extra 2nd liner. So that made Koivu expendable. Dubnyk contract is just gross. Mrazek is a goalie I like to begin with and could hold the fort potentially for a few years. Larkin was needed to fill the 3rd line center role being solid two way forward.

Minn: Pominville 4y 5.6m
CBJ: Jones 1y .925 (Elite Yellow)

This was the last piece for my defense. Someone that was right handed and could also hold there own with Suter on the top pair. Pominville was an extra first liner that couldn't get those minutes with Parise and Vanek so he was the unlucky piece in this move.

Minn: Hagel, Sutter, Fedotenko, Strachan
Pitt: 4th 2016

As you could of guessed just a contract space opening.

Minn: Hoffman, Smith
Wpg: 4th 2016

Again space opening but this time for goalie.

Minn: Rielly, Kuemper
Phi: Sanheim(Elite Low), Labarbera

Needed a solid left hand shot in the minors this first year incase brodin, klefbom didn't work out well. Also a potential suter replacement down the road.

Free Agents:

Gillies 3y .800
Weiss 1y 2.5m
Semin 1y 3.5m

Solid prospect goalie for the minors as well as some depth to hopefully help the minor team along.

--

Starting lineup for Year 1

Parise(90) - Datsyuk(93) - Vanek(87)
Coyle(85) - Granlund(85) - Niederreiter(85)
Zucker(83) - Larkin(84) - Duclair(82)
Stoll(82) - Haula(80) - Fontaine(80)

Jones(86) - Suter(93)
Ceci(84) - Brodin(86)
Dumba(82) - Klefbom(83)

Mrazek(86) - LaBarberra(77)

As you can see I didn't gut the entire team. Half the Defense is the same as well as the majority of the forwards. Goalies got redone though.

--

Season went well with the team staying above .500 the entire time.

Oct. 7-3-1
Nov. 14-7-1
Dec. 22-12-2
Jan. 27-20-2
Feb. 36-24-3
Mar. 47-27-4
Apr. 50-27-5 Datsyuk led the team in points at 68.

Managed to finish 2nd in the division and 3rd in the NHL/West. Chicago and Calgary were above me.

--

Playoffs were a long and grueling time.

Round 1 saw me facing up against St Louis.

Game 1: 3-1 Minn. Parise w/ 2g
Game 2: 3-1 Stl. Steen w/ 2g
Game 3: 2-0 Minn. Dats 1-0 with Stoll EN
Game 4: 4-1 Stl.
Game 5: 6-5 Double OT. This game was tense. Team was down 4-0 going into the 3rd but managed to tie it up 5-5 by the end. Jones, Neider, Ceci, Parise, Duclair(GTG 1m left in 3rd) and Coyle with the winner in Double OT. Epic game.
Game 6: 2-1 Stl.
Game 7: 3-1 Minn.

Despite some heroics in game 5 it still went the distance. Didn't expect to make it out of the first round.

Round 2: Chicago the nemesis that always ruins Minn. playoffs run and I honestly didn't expect too much but the same so I just simmed most of it not recording stats or looking at the sim games.

Game 1: 4-3 Chi. OT
Game 2: 7-2 Minn. (wtf)
Game 3: 3-2 Minn.
Game 4: 3-0 Chi.
Game 5: 3-2 Chi.
Game 6: 2-1 Minn. OT
Game 7: 3-0 Minn. Stoll w/ 2g

To my amazement I somehow won the series wishing I had watched the sims to see some of the players and there stats but oh well. Miracles do happen.

Round 3: As If Chicago wasn't bad enough Anaheim was up next. Ugh.

Game 1: 4-2 Ana
Game 2: 4-0 Minn
Game 3: 3-2 Ana
Game 4: 4-2 Minn
Game 5: 5-1 Minn stoll x2 again
Game 6: 3-0 Minn

Picking the first liner in Datsyuk is paying off in spades the depth he brings to the team in this run must have been something special.

Round 4(Cup): Oddly enough the team I face is the team I gave my biggest assets to at the start of the year. Yup Detroit.

Game 1: 2-1 Minn. Vanek GWG
Game 2: 5-0 Det.
Game 3: 3-0 Minn. Duclair x2
Game 4: 3-2 Det.OT
Game 5: 3-1 Minn. Datsyuk x2
Game 6: 4-2 Minn. Datsyuk GWG

Managed to pull off the impossible and win my first year completely out of the blue. Have a feeling this wont happen again for a little bit but oh well.

Vezina, Conn went to Mrazek

Top 5 point leaders for the team

1.Datsyuk 68
2. Parise 65
3. Vanek 61
4. Neider 60
5. Granlund 57
6. Duclair 54 (3rd liner with PP time. I thought it was fairly impressive)

--

Datsyuk retired at the end of the season.

--

Draft Day wasn't a lot for me personally although I did manage to keep my 1st overall pick which was 30th.

I opted to move down the draft a couple spots and try and get Gauthier who was projected Elite Exact.

Minn: 2016 1st, 2016 4th WPG and 2016 4th Pitt
CBJ: 2016 2nd, 2017 3rd, 4th

To my disbelief Gauthier was selected directly before my pick but had rolled off elite to low top 6.

With my 33rd overall pick I selected Nylander who did roll Elite Low.

--

Resigned:

Zucker(83 Top9) 3y 2.2m
Ceci(85 top4) 5y 3.5m
Dumba(85 Elite) 5y 3.8m
Mrazek(87 Elite) 4y 4m
Jones(91 Elite) 6y 5.7m

Released:

Weiss
Carter
Fontaine
Semin
Stoll
Backstrom
Labarbera

9mil cap space going into F/A

--

I few players of interest were there but I decided just to sign:

Lucic 1y 7.4m
