Austin Mathews is an absolute beast. Simulated the first season as NYR and finished with the 7th overall pick (traded Girardi). I ended up moving 3 1st round picks, Rick Nash and a prospect for 1st OA and Anthony Duclair.

Ironically, the #1 overall was the Rangers pick

Has anyone had any problems with injuries? Seems like every game I play someone gets injured, lol. Weird thing is, it's never Lupul. That surprised me the most.

How did you afford a raise to Ladd and 9 millon to Staal even with Hossa and Ehroff leaving?

No idea where the cap came from. Had $20m to re-sign players and after moving Bicke, had $11m for free agency.

Hossa's retirement really made it possible, otherwise Ladd and probably another forward like Shaw would have been gone.

"I am pleased to become GM of this organization" Rod says, in only his first day of General Manager, Rod had made a trade.

Carolina acquires: MARC STAAL, DERICK BRASSARD, RAPHAEL DIAZ
New York acquires: RYAN MCKEWON, ELIAS LINDHOLM, NATHAN GERBE, 3RD ROUND PICK 2016 (WPG)

Team GM Rod Brind'Amour comments on the trade
"I felt like the deal was needed, acquiring Marc puts both some depth in the defensive system and some chemistry to our locker room, acquiring Brassard gives us one of the most underlooked players in the league, with Diaz he will be a great 7th defenceman for our hockey club, we wish Ryan, Nathan, and Elias all the best in New York."

I would put Brass in the dot and Skinner on the wing personally. Brassard has always be good for me in the middle

That was the original plan during pre season, we had played horrible

With the lines I have now we have a fairly decent roster.

Since free agency went smoothly, I'll post it up now.

Resigned:
Rielly 3 yrs, 6.5m
Kadri 2 yrs, 4.3m
Leivo 2 yrs, 1.2m
Polak 3 yrs, 3.5m
Marincin 2 yrs, 2.8m
Percy: 3 yrs, 1.3m
Matthias 2 yrs, 2m
Corrado: 3 yrs, 1.5m
Sissons 2 yrs, 800k
Grabner 1 yr, 1.5m
Holland 3 yrs, 1.5m
Reimer: 2 yrs, 1.4m

Free Agency Signings:
Braydon Coburn 4 yrs, 4.5m
P.A. Parenteau 3 yrs, 1.8m
Frederick Andersen 3 yrs, 8.7m

I offered Backes a contract, but he ended up going to Chicago. Polak denied my offer of 3 yrs at 3m, saying that he didn't believe we were in a winning position. Bumped up the offer and he accepted it. I'm in a tough spot now, though. Andersen at Med Elite, 90 ovr, is obviously my starter but I have to decide between Bernier (86) or Reimer (85).

What I am referring to, is I am pretty sure I read somewhere that EA WANTS to add extensions, but they simply cannot figure out how. I would guess because of how contracts were initially programmed or something.

This mode is old. To do it justice on next gen, they should rebuild it from scratch, and do it with GM Connected partially in mind. They could keep the current mode on the disc as GM Mode "Classic" or something for people who prefer it due to familiarity.

to the extensions portion. IIRC, NHL 08 or 09 for the PS2 HAD contract extensions.
the issue was though that if you resigned them during the year, their 'new deal' would kick in right away along with their new salary.

I think they don't know how to implement it to 'roll over' until the next season in GM mode

I'm not sure. I went to customize and I can move players, but I can't find draft picks anywhere. I might just be missing it.
What I did in the past was move their high value prospects to my team, my low value prospects to their teams, and then trade the prospects back alongside the picks.

Takes a fair amount of planning, but doable.

That bug is still in the PS4 version? God dammit.

He eventually got the jump up to top-4 early in the season, though, so it's all good.

PRE-TRADE DEADLINE NEWS

- The month of October was brutal for the Chicago Blackhawks, as they had only 4 points of a possible 18, posting a 1-6-2 record in the month of October.
- In November, they rebounded with a 10-8-0 record in a busy month, however, followed up with an 0-4-1 record to start the month of December. Rumours started swirling that a trade would be coming to pull the Hawks out of this funk. Some names thrown around were top prospect, Connor Bleackley, who signed as a UFA this past summer, and a young roster forward of their own: Teuvo Terevainen.
- With a 24-20-8 record a few weeks before the trade deadline, and a disgruntled 4th-liner who'd been a healthy scratch for 44 of 52 games this season, the Hawks made their first trade of the season.

TRADE - Feb. 4, 2017 - The Chicago Blackhawks trade LW Ryan Garbutt, CHI 2017 4th-round-pick & CHI 2018 2nd-round-pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins for RW Beau Bennett, PIT 2017 3rd-round-pick & PIT 2018 7th-round-pick.

- The Hawks went on a 5-5-1 run after the Bennett trade. A few days before the trade deadline, they made an even bigger move, this one with a surprising divisional rival who's at the bottom of the pack in the standings...

TRADE - Feb. 28, 2017 - The Chicago Blackhawks traded LW Teuvo Terevainen, CHI 2017 1st-round-pick, MTL 2017 2nd-round-pick & PIT 2018 3rd-round-pick to the St. Louis Blues for LW Alexander Steen & STL 2017 2nd-round-pick.

latest

Alex Steen joins the Hawks with 15 goals and 41 points through 62 games on a disappointing St. Louis Blues club.

TRADE DEADLINE

- With a 30-25-9 record at the trade deadline and two trades in the month of February, one being a big one to acquire Alex Steen from a divisional rival, the Chicago Blackhawks were going to have a quiet trade deadline. The only thing on their agenda was dealing disgruntled defenseman Evgeni Medvedev, who was waived after the Steen trade.

TRADE - Mar. 3, 2017 - The Chicago Blackhawks trade D Evgeni Medvedev to the Anaheim Ducks for ANA 2017 5th-round-pick.

POST-TRADE DEADLINE

- The Chicago Blackhawks go on an 11-5-2 run after the trade deadline to clinch a playoff spot, finishing 4th in the central division. The Blackhawks finish the season with a 41-30-11 record.

Wild GM Mode Cont... Year 5

Year 5 was an interesting one. Only because I wasn't really too unhappy with any of my roles. So my moves were more to make cap space for my current roster. I like to try and maintain a 10m+ ceiling so I can make any signs I feel I need too and not just qualify players. I also make sure to remove any non improving players if they stay idle at an overall to long I get annoyed and drop them before there value starts to trend down. Anyway lets get started.

Preseason Trades:

Minn: Slepyshev (Top 6) 2y 2.6m, V.Rask (Top 6) 2y 2.5m
TB: Point(Elite) 3y 3.5m, Heatley(Elite) 3y .875

Not a lot to explain here. Rask for Point and Slepy for a prospect.

Minn: Gillies (Starter) 1y 2.6m, 2020 1st
Phi: Darling 1y 1.5m, 2020 1st, 2021 3rd

Just wanted a back up for bishop and while gillies was doing alright I didn't need him. Expendable.

Minn: Dumba(Elite) 2y 3.8m, 2020 4th,6, 2020 4th(Chi)
Van: Anderson(Elite) 2y .750, 2020 2nd, 2021 3rd

Was a small overlap on the right shot D top 4 spot. Sad to see the last original Wild player go.

Free Agency:

Stralman 1y 5m
Demarchi(Top 9) 3y .700
Karlsson(Top 9) 2y .925
Kooejan(Starter) 3y .750

Small cap bump up to make sure I hit the min. and a few prospects to maybe help along down the road or at the very least improve the AHL team.

--

Starting line up for Year 5:

Fabbri(88) - Drouin(94) - Duclair(88)
Forsberg(87) - Point(86) - Ehlers(87)
Koziol(82) - Larkin(84) - Petan(84)

Jones(91) - Rielly(92)
Dougherty(84) - Sanheim(92)
Bergman(84) - Provorov(82)

Bishop(89) - Darling(81)

Happy to finally see some of my prospects make the lineup even if it's just the 4th line in Beleskey/Nylander.
