Trading Weegar before his extension kicks in... man I don't know if I've ever noticed something like that before. I'm sure it's happened though.

Quick Q: Would Duclair be a reasonable main piece to send back?
Edit for my reasoning: Duclair is cheaper this season and provides a proven 30-goal winger with Huby...you could literally run Huby-Kadri-Duclair like we ran Huby-Bennett-Duke. Duclair also isn't signed as long-term so save money in two years.

For Florida, it's obvious we need another top 4 defenseman and with the emergence of Montour, we could go Weegar-Ekblad/Forsling-Montour

Tough to say, would need to fill that role on D, and with the current injuries to the Flames' d (Andersson, Kylington) they would need to fill that position via trade.

I'd also demand Lomberg in any deal. Love that guy.

If Weegar is traded it's most likely because there's another D coming in, like Parayko, in another deal

I was assuming you’d be trading for a player Chych who is a bit cheaper.

Lomberg is surprisingly a tough ask: guy is just such a hard player who does a lot for us…

I'd really rather not give up on Weegar so quickly. He hasn't been great but he hasn't been bad either. That pairing with him and Zadorov has been statistically very impressive. Would like to see more of him on the PP.

But if the Senators made an offer we couldn't refuse around Batherson+ or getting Sanderson involved I might just change my mind.

I don't know what this team needs. Another scorer? Depth defender? Middle 6 PP specialist? All/none of the above? This Flames team is one of the hardest to figure out in a while. Treliving could do nothing and it wouldn't surprise me. He could do something big and it wouldn't surprise me either. I'm more leaning towards doing nothing or something small and let the chips fall where they may. Despite what the mainboard seems to think I don't believe the Flames are as "all in" this year as it appears.

Weegar can stick McDavid in his backpocket like it's nothing. He should be given free rein to play how he likes

Trading Weegar despite him putting up great underlying numbers as an overreaction to poorer counting stats would be insanely silly. Trading Weegar to try and try and spur Huberdeau would be insanely silly. Trading Weegar to bring in Parayko would have me take drastic measures to find a new team to cheer for.

I dunno guys, Parayko is 6'6" 208 lbs and is a product of St. Albert. I bet he can even identify several farm implements.
f*ck Parayko is Sutter's wet dream of a dman. he is almost 30, signed long term, is a huge, quick, not offensively gifted, western Canadian boy

unless he has come to them and quietly asked to be moved, I am with you on this. it would be crazy to flip him now especially if it is done to bring in Parayko who is NOT the type of dman this team is missing they need a dman who is dynamic not just another good dman.

I've always had a soft spot for Lomberg. I was choked you guys got him, but it made sense due to our glut of smaller LW and him hoping for (and deserving) a bigger role. I'm glad he's a key guy for you guys. Glad he's finding success. I love his style of game.

The only thing I hate is the Lomberghini nickname.

Give him a pitch fork or shove and he IS a farm implement.

Think the Flames could have at one point iced 4th line of Lomberg-Bennett-Hathaway in what would have been easily been one of the most hated lines in the league. So many missed opportunities.

Yeah, it's sad to think what of could have been. And with Tkachuk gone, there's one player left in the organization that really musters that level of hate in Pospisil and he can't stay healthy.

Oh well, missed opportunities is life as a Flames fan.

Anyway, Friedman:
13. Calgary is being careful, realizing this could end up being a summer where the Flames have to redefine who they are. One thing they are looking for: a winger who can open up space for Jonathan Huberdeau to create — like Anthony Duclair did in Florida.

19. The Senators have told teams they won’t trade Alex DeBrincat at the deadline. New ownership will get a run at this, but if there isn’t some degree of certainty at the draft, then we’ll see. I don’t think MacKenzie Weegar is an option now, but we will see how everyone (including the Flames) feel later. Lots of time between then and now, lots of things for both franchises to sort out.

Shaping up to be a big summer of trades and firings. The excitement never ends.

The phrase "redefine who they are" is fascinating. Does it reference the notion of competing or rebuilding? Staying with Sutter's defensive style or changing to a more open offensive one? A new GM with new vision or keeping Treliving? So many possibilities.

Didn't Mangiapane - Jankowski - Hathaway piss off many teams as a pretty damn underrated fourth line at one point?

Lomberg - Bennett - Lazar would have been interesting too IMO.

Eh it’s a stupid name but reflects how he is a beloved piece. Hopefully he plays the rest of his career for Florida; what an exceptional character guy!

Calgary is really good with finding high quality guys :)

no way this team should consider trading a first this year.

Pelikka/Danielson/Reinbacher in our range. Too many good prospects availiable in the mid first this year.

2 1sts plus for Andersson to Leafs. Kadri commanded our Matthews tank run, he can spearhead yours for sure.

Fire everyone into the sun and start over. Get a coach that can develop young talent and isn’t afraid to let them find their own way. Preaching certain systems to players limits their ability to grow. Sure get the systems in place when you have a young core in place that knows their roles but to continually trade for band aids that have developed in far different coaching philosophy’s and expect them to learn new tricks is a recipe for disaster and years of darkness. We will win a cup by developing young talent far before we will win a cup with what Flames management is doing now.
