A little Monday morning powerplay production comparison:

Stepan:
3-15-18 in 82 games with 213:14 PP TOI (3rd on team)
1-1-2 in 45 games with 122:54 PP TOI (2nd on team) --> ?

Galchenyuk:
9-15-24 in 82 games with 240:01 PP TOI (2nd on MTL, 1st goals, 1st points MTL) - FO 12/25
4-9-13 in 35 games with 110:03 PP TOI (3rd on team, goals tied 1st, points 2nd) - FO 19/47
Great stuff, thanks!!

I'm surprised Stepan is 2nd among forwards with PP TOI, seems like he rarely sees PP time. While Galchenyuk is always on the ice for PP's.

Our power play has significantly improved this year. We are no longer giving up shortie after shortie.

Poking around on NHL stats...actually it's up to 18.2%, which is almost average...but...

only 3 seasons since 96-97 have they finished with a higher average than that. The highest two were 14-15(!) and 13-14.

4. Garland* $680,000
4. Stepan* $6,500,000

Top 10 Points:

1. Keller $885,833
2. Schmaltz $925,000
3. GAlchenyuk $4,900,000
4. OEL $5,500,000
5. Stepan* $6,500,000

Regarding goals, Stepan makes $6,500,000. The other five skaters make a combined $6,437,499; $62,501 less than him.

Regarding points, Keller, Schmaltz, Hinostroza, Cousins, and Richardson make combined make $60,833 more than OEL and $85,833 more than Gologoski.

My thought and hopefully my point, is the highly paid vets are not doing it night in and night out. They are not who I am seeing, or noticing, for doing the positives or putting in the work.

There is more to the game than points though. This has more to do with the salary structure in the CBA. ELC's are way under paid, RFA's are under paid, and UFA's or anyone approaching UFA status are over paid. Its a pay for performance structure but within your bracket, so you can't compare performance numbers with players in different brackets. Goose was a UFA, and Stepan is are only Top 2C, his production is down this year but his overall play is solid. Keller and Schmaltz are way under paid, sacrificial lambs of the CBA:)

Anyone think if we are in this by the trade deadline we should make a push for Duchene? Especially since he is a UFA at the end of the year. It won't cost a core roster player.

Regarding Stepans salary, I think it is obvious the reason Rangers traded him, was because they realized they had given him a to good contract. He is a good player. It's just that those people giving him the contract was to eager. But Arizona didn't do that.

Now it was overpayment to give them a 7OA for him, but that's not something he is part of.

(I usually think Stepan was for the first, and ADA was for Raanta. But I may be wrong. ADA is a good player too, so that was a bad deal even if you break it apart the way I did there- and of course if you sum it up and then compare it, it was bad. It's possible everybody at the time being thought ADA was just a contract, and it really felt like a 7OA for both Raanta and Stepan. Or something. But then it was still a bad trade.)

I think Duchene would garner a pretty big return for Ottawa, but I also think they are going to re sign him.

The management in Ottawa is a total shitshow, but you basically have to resign Duchene. You can't possibly give up the 1OA pick AND the dude you traded the pick to get. The whole fanbase would have ample reason to go full riot and drag Melnyk out into the street to stone him to death.

I'd love to get Duchene for a playoff push if we are in contention.

Keller - Duchene - Fischer
Galchenyuk - Stepan - Garland
Panik - Richardson - Hinostroza
Crouse - Weal - Cousins

So you guys don't think that would cost the first-rounder? Not wanting to be the next Ottawa, huh?

It's either we sign him as a UFA or nothing,

I really hope Merkley can stay healthy, because there's a lot of potential there. 39 points in 38 games in Tucson last season, and he's currently PPG coming back from injury.

For next season, how about:

Keller-Duchene-Fischer
Galchenyuk-Dvorak-Schmaltz
Grabner-Richardson-Hinostroza
Crouse-Hayton-Garland

Wonder if Chayka and/or OTT would consider Stepan as part of a package for Duchene

Let Hayton to develop in OHL or play him in top-6 role with powerplay time. No reason to bring him up for 4th line minutes
