Siegenthaler has been a steaming pile of ass for the last 18 months. He had one great year and then forgot how to play defense, it's genuinely mind-boggling. He's been a healthy scratch at times because he's been so bad. There were red flags last season, but most of us were willing to ignore them because he team was winning. But now it's clear he's a #4 guy who can PK a bit and nothing more. Why would the devils, a crappy defensive team with crappy goalies, trade their only quality defensive defenseman?
I still think he's by far the most likely optionPass on the 6 million dollar 35 year old
If his value has dropped to a fair price for a 35 year old 6 million dollar goalie, sure.I still think he's by far the most likely option
Wow, does he get an excuse for everything? Must be nice to be GM of the Devils. So Fitzgerald is bad because the market on goalies was ridiculously expensive?
nobody said he'd get a top-10? However he could easily fetch a late 1stThe idea that Lindgren could get a top-10 pick in a trade is comical. Guy is held together by staples and duct tape.
Looked for a goalie all year.Wow, does he get an excuse for everything? Must be nice to be GM of the Devils.

Need is an LD. Girard would be of more interest but Fitzgerald has stated to prefer long, mobile dmanAny interest in Manson from Colorado? 2 more years at $4.5m
You did enough to comment. Also one of them completely stonewalled the Rangers last year when they had an even more stacked roster.Who cares, they were both terrible in the NHL.
Still talking about last season? You did enough to comment. Also one of them completely stonewalled the Rangers last year when they had an even more stacked roster.
Also Daws had plenty of good games this season for the Devils. The kid still has plenty of potential to be something at the NHL level.
Seems like a wasted year. It’s the GMs job to find solutions to problems and at this level excuses are meaningless.Looked for a goalie all year.
If a goalie wasn't available at a reasonable price, I'm quite glad he didn't overpay
It's a GMs job to put the team in the best possible position long term.Seems like a wasted year. It’s the GMs job to find solutions to problems and at this level excuses are meaningless.
The fact that you start from a position of it has to be an overpay to get a goaltender is just non sense. It's a GMs job to put the team in the best possible position long term.
Sure you could massively overpay for a goalie, the most volatile position in hockey. Then what happens if next year said goalie, as goalies tend to do, plays completely different. Then do you go out and buy another expensive goalie? Oh wait, you gave up your entire future already in this scenario.
Or what if you then need to fill another hole. But oh wait, you overpaid so now there's nothing left.
With an injured Jack, dougie out for the year, still one of the youngest teams in hockey. This was not the year to go all in.
Maybe if things were like they were in the first month or so all year, where the team was healthy, playing fantastic, and getting sold completely by goaltenders. Sure, then you're 1 piece away and you go for it.
But that is not what the case was.
You'd have destroyed the teams long term window to try and salvage a year where your top 2 dmen are 20 years old, all of your highest paid players have missed significant time with injury, just to sneak into the playoffs.
Based on every report from insiders, the asking prices on goalies this season were astronomically higher than they've been at any point in the last 20 years. The fact that you start from a position of it has to be an overpay to get a goaltender is just non sense.
Still talking about last season?
What were the asking prices and for who?Based on every report from insiders, the asking prices on goalies this season were astronomically higher than they've been at any point in the last 20 years.
Allegedly calgary wanted Holtz+1st for an unretained markstromWhat were the asking prices and for who?
Even through your extreme bias and inability to be objective about anything related to the Devil, certianly you understand that when it comes to evaluating young NHL talent and potential, it is important to consider their full body of work up until that point, right?
i have to defend crypto here. if you were a fan of an original six team with a total of three stanley cups, you also wouldn't like to look at the past.Even through your extreme bias and inability to be objective about anything related to the Devil, certianly you understand that when it comes to evaluating young NHL talent and potential, it is important to consider their full body of work up until that point, right?
I don't think anyone was saying that a good return wouldn't be out there for a near PPG centerman. What were the asking prices and for who?
It’s always “impossible” to make a good trade when the GM can’t get the job done. To most fans it was impossible the Jets get a good return on Dubois. Turned out alright in the end. Good GMs find solutions.
Would NJ be interested in having Graves back? Straight up for Siegenthaler?Siegenthaler has been a steaming pile of ass for the last 18 months. Santeri Hatakka, an AHL defenseman that was a throw-in in the Meier trade last year, has legit been a better defenseman than him this year.
No, not at all. If NJD wanted Graves at 4.5 for 6 years they'd have signed him to that deal.Would NJ be interested in having Graves back? Straight up for Siegenthaler?
I would definitely have no interest in that. I can live with Sieg's contract even if he were to get bounced down to a third pairing role. No reason to take on a higher cap hit and an extra year.Would NJ be interested in having Graves back? Straight up for Siegenthaler?
