and what exactly do you think it would take to convince LA to trade him to us?

lets see your package , because your silly hyperbole of carrick+2nd makes it hard to take your premise seriously.

Nylander
1st
Brown
Zaitsev (need to offset some long term cap)

for a re-signed Doughty and we can take on Clifford if need be.

ok but let me know when you plan on making a real offer

one that will have to trump all the other teams interested in a Norris RHS D in his prime.

RFA Nylander
Late 1rst
"supposed over paid" Zaitsev
14x14=28p Brown

does not win you that bidding war.

I'd need to see the other imaginary bids.

We can't offer the most money, were not a top contender and it's a tough market to play in.
- He's from here
- His wife is Canadian and rumour has it wants to work in Canada
- 6th best record in the league with a top young core on the up.
- Most other contenders have cap issues

There is zero chance any team goes through the PR headache of bringing on Voynov.

I sure wouldn’t want him in a blue and white jersey.
King's still own his rights they want to bring him back.

Don't blame them I would too. Deserves a 2nd chance any slip up tho and he's gone.

Not excusing his charges but when you look at who is sitting in the Oval Office who gives a rats ass about employing a hockey player charged with domestic abuse. It's not like he's the first athlete who has done it.

But there's nothing wrong with the current president. No idea how that corresponds to Voynov.

Nothing wrong what planet are you living on he's been charged by dozens of women with abuse!
His own first wife charged him with rape. He was served a deposition but it was later withdrawn.
One of the pornstars he was shagging with while with his 3rd wide was paid off and then threatened by one of his minions.

Even though he's been a ghost this post-season. I want no part of moving Willy. I think there is a way to get a D capable of handling big minutes without his inclusion. They should be patient, even though as fans we are not. Liljegren and Dermott still have lots of room to grow, they could be stars in this league. If Marc Bergevin isn't a jack ass, he should trade us Weber and recoup some future assets. If not Weber, they should try and be the winning bid for CDH within reason. They do need to get creative and find a sucker to take Zaitsev. That should be a priority this summer.

CDH is "nice" but he's had a lot of shoulder injuries and is another LHD, he won't move the needle very much.

Reality is if we want to add a defenseman that can make a different it will cost us. Do we want to pay that price now or later? I am prepared to do it now IFFFF it's the right defenseman. Mentally I am prepared if it has to be Nylander but I am not pushing him out of town by any stretch. Defenseman just cost a lot in this league to acquire.

a president is shagging someone on the side, that probably never happened before. nothing to do with hockey or Voynov situation.

I would do nylander and Gardiner for doughty. Gardiner is getting a big raise next year so we won’t be able to afford him anyway.
Trade Martin to clear some cap and sign Tavares if possible.

Reilly Doughty
Dermott Hainsey
Borgman or cheap Fa and Zaitsev

That’s a over kill. Nylander would be more then enough

Lou would have been all over it if Nylander would be more then enough to acquire Doughty.
WTFMAN99 is very close to what it would take to acquire Doughty and that is if the Kings entertain offers. This is why I would go after Tavares as he won't require Leafs giving up valuable assets. Sign Tavares and then acquire a couple of defensively responsible dmen.

your core is all early 20s why trade anyone for a guy who is potentially a ufa in a year
wait and see how that plays out and then make a move like that
maybe he comes for free
maybe you trade less for his rights
then trade a legit core piece

McKenzie this morning on TSN said he thought Carlson would be looking at $7-$7.5. If true, how much more than Gardiner's next deal is that? Carlson + Willie + whatever Gardiner gets you > Doughty. I think Carlson can absolutely choose his spot though so the Leafs may be well down his list.

Rights pretty much never get traded anymore with the interview period. You basically trade for him with an extension in place or you hope you can sign him in UFA with no guarantees. At 27 years old, Doughty has probably another 10 years in him. Look across the rink at 41 year old Chara, elite players will generally keep going.

I would do that for 7.5

Carlson is not the type of D we should be committing that much money too. Wait it out for Doughty, OEL, Karlsson or McDonagh. At least one of them will be moving on.

You've conveniently left out how he's being charged by dozens of women with abuse.

It has plenty to do with Voynov. Everyone is writing Voynov off saying he's unfit to ever play again in the NHL because of his domestic abuse charge which is a joke when the President of the US gets a free pass for similar but worse offences

0 to do with sports . Look at NFL and NBA. They been breaking the law for the past 50 years and noone cares as long as they have talent.

But Voynov does have talent he would completely solve our top 4 RHD problem yet no one is willing to give him a chance when as you say no one should care in sports as long as they have talent.

So why's everyone drawing the line with Voynov?
