Do you think Clarkson's deal is an albatross? He's only paid 750k more per year than Brouwer and the same term left on his deal. Clarkson has an NTC, sure, but mega high AAV is an NTC in itself. Their even strength performance (scoring rate, possession, expected goal number - you name it) is similar. Also largely forgotten due to becoming a joke around these parts are Clarkson's "intangibles", which is partly how he got his deal in the first place.

Except the Clarkson deal was considered an albatross when it was signed. This Brouwer signing is getting love from all pundits.

Also, Brouwer doesn't have an NTC, wasn't signed for 7 years and doesn't have more or less a buyout proof contract.

Terrible comparison.

Does Wideman have a terrible contract? He has 1 year left only.

Comparing Clarkson to Brouwer.

Brouwer on TSN; said management wants him to play with some of the younger skilled forwards. So either top line or next to Tkachuk-Bennett. Solid either way.

I like how they've already told him he's got to be the pitbull on the line
Go get the puck, let those two work

Not comparable, like at all. The only thing keeping Clarkson in the NHL is his NMC.

Just by statwatching... compare these numbers to the RW's Flames have had lately.

I like it, better than having Chiasson there :naughty:

Wonder if they'll move Chiasson to Backlund's line.
Johnny - Monny - Brouwer
Tkachuk - Bennett - Frolik
Ferland - Backlund - Chiasson

Backlund makes everyone around him better. Brouwer solidifies the top line on both ends. Frolik gives the Bennett line stability on both ends.

Good skill up and down. That 3rd line depth is nice.

I think Brouwer ends up with Monahan and Gaudreau, but a Tkachuk-Bennett-Brouwer line would be scary.

Lucic starts running our guys?, time to send out Tkachuk-Bennett-Brouwer. oh baby

Brouwer can play a 200 foot game, Clarkson cant.
We'll agree to disagree on the bolded...
Clarkson cant score goals outside of one of the single most lucky seasons I have ever seen out of an NHL player. Brouwer can score goals. I don't know where you have gotten the idea they have similar production. Clarkson had 4 points in 23 games with the jackets. They guy is hardly even an NHL player.
They have a similar goal/60 at even strength. Brouwer scores a lot more because of his linemates and getting more icetime.
Clarkson has an NTC, Brouwer doesn't.
Like I said, it's irrelevant. His AAV makes him untradeable.

Clarksons contract is 7 years, Brouwers is 4. Clarksons contract totalled in at 36.75 Million, Brouwers contract is essentially half that.
Clarkson's deal has 4 years left. I'm talking about the current state of affair, not back in 2013. Or are you saying it's no longer an albatross?

I like the signing :)

I think he will be a great mentor for Chiasson, Tuulola, Ferland, Bouma, Tkachuk, Bennett and perhaps even Mony. I like that he's a physical guy, and even moreso, amazed at his durability. I would love him to teach that or show our crash and bangers how to maintain that physicality without getting hurt (ie: Ferland)

Hudler:
13-14: 54
14-15: 76
15-16: 35 (in 53)

Colborne:
13-14: 28
14-15: 28 (in 64)
15-16: 44 (in 73)

I know there's more to Brouwer than scoring, but there is absolutely nothing mind-blowing about his offensive production, even in comparison to recent Flames RWs, unless you're going to compare him to 4th liners like Jooris.
