Since the NHL and NBA all star games both happen at roughly the same time of year, have a cross branded sporting event like a softball game or some other sport determined by a fan vote which would see the NHL All Stars take on the NBA All Stars
Give teams that were in the bottom five in revenues the previous season the option to play up to 10-11 of their home games in other North American cities that don't currently have NHL teams. This would allow the NHL to see the validity of other markets and gain exposure in those markets with minimal to little risk. And teams that are rebuilding, lacking support, or just going through a tough stretch can play games in cities where the NHL playing there would be a novelty and generate interest and hopefully more revenue (Seattle, Quebec City, Portland, Saskatchewan, Hartford, etc.)
Give the Stanley cup winner the option of trading their leading scorer from the previous season or their #1 D for the 1st overall pick in the upcoming entry draft. If the Stanley Cup winning team uses their option, the team that would've had 1st overall automatically gets the player that was given up and picks 31st in the draft. The Stanley Cup winning team also must still have their own 1st in that drat year in order to be given this option.
Give the best teams in each conference the option of choosing which wild card team they want to face. Do it like a draft so the president's trophy winner gets their pick of the 4 wild card teams first, followed by the team with the second most points, and so on
Start training camp 2 weeks earlier, which would end the season/playoffs 2 weeks earlier
Never let Nick Kypreos talk about anything hockey related ever again by forcing him into some sort of device like you'd see in one of the Saw movies that would instantly activate as soon as he made any kind of mention about the sport.
And can't believe this one hasn't been said in 8 pages, but the NHL's national broadcaster NEEDS to go back to being TSN for the love of God
