Fantasy Draft Every Year for the Cup including Entry Draft.

Imagine a 2015-2016 Year of drafted players looks like
#1 Toronto Selects - Crosby (Finals MVP)
#2 Edmonton Selects - P.Kane (106 Pts)
#3 Vancouver Selects - E.Karlsson (PPG Dman)
#4 Columbus Selects - Ovechkin (50 Goals)
#5 Calgary Selects - McDavid (Risky because of rookie)
#6 Winnipeg Selects - Malkin
#7 Arizona Selects - J.Benn (89 Points)
etc.

- Most successful would be ones with well drafted and well coached teams.
- Teams that wont be in playoffs, for example Leafs, could trade Crosby for draft pick swap in next year draft.
- Crosby + 2nd Round Pick for Player X + 1st Round Pick
- Because 30 Man roster, no team is allowed to have above 30 Draft picks.
- Draft Style would be #1 pick in 1st round + # 60 pick in 2nd round or #15th in 1st round + 45th in 2nd round. Reverse ladder style.

Anyways thats my idea. Maybe they'll introduce it in a video game. Online GM would be fun.

Prospects are not eligible to be drafted unless they have finished high-school, or have turned 19.

(This does not mean you could draft them earlier than now if they somehow have finished high-school to early.)

I would not be opposed to this at all. The league could put restrictions on how much variation teams could have in the dimensions of their rink and zones but it would be interesting to see different sized ice surfaces. I know growing up playing on different sized rinks would always be a slight advantage for the home team.
and I probably should have been a little more clear. They would be permitted to go +/- 15 ft from the standard of 200 x 85. If a team wanted to expand up to 210 x 100 (only using 10 of the permitted 15 ft on the length of the ice), that would be fine. If they decided that the oversized rink was too much and wanted to go down to a much smaller 185 x 70 rink, it would be a drastic change and probably a foolish one, but it would be permitted since it's still within range of the permitted dimensions.
Or maybe not even go +/- 15 ft. Maybe have it be minimum of 75 ft and max of 105 wide and minimum of 190 and max of 215 long. The custom rink sizes would bring about a real home ice advantage and even a little bit of character into the arenas.

Would it fly? Not without retrofitting the majority of the arenas and losing high dollar seats, which would be the first hurdle to clear.

I want them to gradually roll back the draft age to 19, moving the cutoff by a few months each year. Also first round picks from the CHL should be able to go directly to AHL. There's still lots of talent for junior teams to keep with rounds 2-7.

I don't think many team, if any would be changing their current arenas but going forward they could make them different sizes as they build new arenas.

oh yeah, totally agree. It could be an option if they chose to go with it. Would they do it on an already built arena? I'd say it's unlikely for the obvious reasons.

Let the 8 and 9 seeds have a one game playoff for the final wildcard slot.

We've seen teams the past couple of years that just missed that could've done damage in the playoffs, like Florida and Tampa.

Abolutely, or make it 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9 even.

This way, it would be more temperature longer in the regular season, as teams who holds a 2 or 3 seed in the division while knowing they would be wild-cards if they relax in the last games, would fight harder to keep those 2nd or 3rd spots.

Also, teams who almost makes the play-off gets a little reward for it.

Square ice surface.
The puck will not leave the ice at any time, otherwise play will be blown dead. The boards will now be 6 inches high (and made of cardboard) with no glass, which is no longer needed.
Instead of whistles, linesmen will use bugles, referees sousaphones.
A panel of three judges can declare "five minute action time" during the games. During this five minutes, goals will be worth two points. This will be communicated to one (only one) of the referees during the game. The teams will be informed whether any two-point goals have been scored via telegram within 7 to 10 days after each game. Fans can find out by sending a self addressed envelope to Gary Bettman.
The teams that do not make the playoffs will play a tournament to determine 17th through 32nd place. After each round, the eliminated teams will play each other to determine placings. At the end, there will be 16 simultaneous best 7-of 12 series. (If teams are tied 6 games each, the series will continue until one team wins by two games.)

#1. this.
Break the ownership group that has complete control over "the best league in the world". Open it up properly.

#2. Award the Stanley Cup to the best team in the world. At least open up the possibility and break the long time NHL stranglehold on awarding the cup to their champion. Means NHL champs have to play KHL champs at least.

#3. Stop trying to take fighting out. Stop intentionally trying to appeal to some new demographic/fanbase.

#4. Can those American fans who stand up and pound on the glass for the majority of the games be told not to do that? Maybe install some seat belts for front row seats in Columbus? Maybe electrify the partition in Nashville?

This is the reason I like this idea. Right now, finishing 9th or 10th is the worst place you can be - which probably makes some wildcard teams hesitant to add at the trade deadline. No playoffs, and not a great draft pick. This way adds incentive and adds a rewards to those teams that battle for the 9 and 10 spot.

Every time a team is beaten in the playoffs the winning team gets to add any players from the losing one for the remainder of the playoffs...
Yooo that would actually be pretty epic... Imagine what the rosters would look like by the time finals comes around lol. Super stacked on both sides. superstars all the way down the lineup.

#1 Relegation would not work in the NHL.

2. Would this mean that a team plays 4 series and then has to then play a 5th series to win, or how would that work?

3. Ehhh, senseless violence is working itself out of the game. Teams are so fast and skilled that you can't afford to have a glorified hitman taking ice time from someone who can actually play hockey. Also, the NHL is a business, they have to make money. To make money you have to appeal to the fans. The next generation of fans want to see hockey, not 'Mike Tyson's Punchout On Ice" acted out buy guys who can barely play the game.
