Avs fans need to learn to win with a little more class. You guys are pulling a Panarin right now. I seriously just read a full page of utter gloating & kicking us when we're down.
Try walking away, you're the team that's up 3-1. Ofcourse Flames fans are sour.

giphy.gif

So you are blaming fans for being confident in a 1 vs 8 playoff?

So we're all classless and you guys were just confident. I see...

Series aint over yet. With the way Smith is playing anything is still possible.

Alas this is true. Lowkey expecting this thing to come back to Denver (at least), but hopefully my voodoo works again in game 5 :sarcasm:
Yeah anybody blaming Gaudreau is just stat whacking because Avs had last change at home and has put EJ out there every time. Johnson though isn't as fast as he used to be is just shadowing Johnny wherever he goes and like half of his hits on him are on the borderline of being late. However, he's finishing every cheque on him and that is more due to Bednar's tactics than Gaudreau going into "invisible" mode. Additionally, not one Avs forward is allowing him to come through the neutral zone with speed, everyone is putting sticks all over him.

This of course is making space for Monahan who doing jack**** with it. If you want to blame somebody who is responsible for letting the Flames down the most, blame this PP specialist. Secondly, Brodie is getting destroyed by MacKinnon's particle disintegration weaponry, but Giordano has been a joke for the Flames. Defencively he's been okay, but offencively when they need a big play from their future-Norris trophy winner he looks as bad and as slow as Jack Johnson does.

Third, oh my does Backlund look terrible. All these Flamers can whine about refs especially the influx of burner accounts we're getting from Calgary Puck, but Flames are putting themselves in really dumb positions which are leading to penalties. I don't care if they're weak calls or not, if you put your stick parallel to the ice you're asking for trouble. Likewise with Backlund's penalty on Landeskog yesterday, it might've not been a strong call, but he put his stick in a vulnerable area at Gabe's skates and tripped him. Calling it biased is hilarious and just shows you lots frustration more than being correct. But we're not done with Backlund, he then proceeds to puck watch Yeti and backs off too much from Mikko not only finding himself in no man's land, but screening Smith on the gamewinner.

Yikes.

I thought Gio looked good early on last night. He had that nice deep pinch that they talked about on the broadcast alongside a handful of other, more aggressive than in the previous matches, decisions. The way he played before we started coming on was one of the biggest changes between game 3 & 4, IMO.
I really hope the Avs pull a Panarin this summer.

Under-rated post

This. It's the playoffs. If you can't deal with a little trash talk after a monster win, then stay on your own team's board.

Exactly right, what teams fan base isn’t going to enjoy winning and express it abit?

I haven’t seen anything I think is going overboard, overall I’d say AVS fans have been pretty civil and decent about things.

Now here’s a gif of Johnny Gaudreau...

My first post in this series thread was that the Flames *should* win, but that doesn't mean we will.

Colorado really reminds me of us in 2004. Good goaltending, your star player is carrying the team, and the entire roster is bringing their lunch pails and working their butts off, and it's paying off. Props to you guys. We don't deserve to win at this point. I do wish the officiating was a tad more even, but that wouldn't change the fact that we're playing like garbage

As an Avs fan, this thing ain't over yet by any means. Teams have come back from 1-3 to win the series. I was worried facing the Flames before the series started, and I'm still worried

I'll give the Avs more respect now. I didn't expect them to push back so hard. I didn't think they had the depth. They have flat out outskated/outshot the Flames. But as someone else pointed out, a different bounce (or lack of call) here or there and this is a 3-1 series for the Flames.
But man, whats with this fan base and begging for respect? You can't cherry pick a couple of stretches during the season and say "we were the best at this blah blah blah". Respect is earned, and this series will earn you alot outside Colorado.

That can be said in any game or series about bounces. If the Avs had a couple bounces in game 1 this series could also be over. Just how things go in sports.

I tend to avoid main board GDTs (or series threads, as the case may be) precisely because the people populating them tend to be the sort who talk smack. I don't have much time for fans who are so invested in their team that it becomes an extension of their own personality, and I have even less time to hear them brag about it.
That being said, if you come into these threads, that's what you should expect. Fans of teams crowing about this or that. Yeah, there's some level-headed stuff here and there, but the vast majority is going to be posts from people who are neck deep in bias and ready to strut. I don't care who you root for, you've got lots of posters on "your side" ready to do just this. Hell, even I do it sometimes, and I honestly find smack talk dumb (I also find whiskey delicious, and sometimes it makes dumb stuff sound awesome).

Before I came to HFBoards I liked/disliked teams based on events transpiring on the ice. Since I've joined, I find I tend to dislike teams whose fans tend to overpopulate d***-measuring threads. Right now, there are at least 3 teams who I don't mind at all, but wish dearly to lose solely because of what some of their fans are like on these forums.

My point is this: these types of threads are more often than not a cesspool of fans taking the opportunity to crow. If you don't have the stomach for that (as I seldom do) then don't come into these types of threads. Yes, ideally, HFBoards is all about hockey fans getting together and discussing the finer points of the game while leaving the heavy bias to the dark confines of their team boards, but that's not gonna happen and however much it did happen back in the day is probably overstated by self-confessed drunks like myself drowning in nostalgia.

The refs haven't handed Colorado this series. MacKinnon isn't suddenly the best player in the league. Mike Smith has been lights out, even if he is by far the most annoying goalie in the NHL. The series is 3-1 Colorado, and they have the stats advantage, as well, but Calgary had them on the ropes in two of the games the Avs won. Calgary and Denver are both beneficiaries of the Rockies. I don't think many us from either town are really into rodeos.

Let's not be friends. Let's be rivals.

Though that tends to be the case, these threads with calgary fans have been rather palatable...with certain exceptions...so that doesn't need to be the case. It's a question of what we who are posting in these threads decide to do :dunno:

And I see no reason one can't be friendly with a rival, that often makes the trashtalk more amusing & clever than crass & grotesque, and raises the stakes.

As a Flames fan, the refs should be the least of their worries. They need to start playing playoff hockey, stop passing the puck around trying to get the perfect shot and just get pucks on net and create traffic. They're giving the Avs way too much time to defend. Also, the Avs are doing a great job taking away their space, they've been playing great.

Also I'm really starting to believe that Monahan isn't 1C material. Maybe his body broke down, maybe he never had it, but I just don't see it. I've been hopeful for a while, too.

IDK, there's a part of me that puts more blame on Gaudreau than Monahan.

Monahan is what he is. A mini-Stamkos. A guy with a great shot and the ability to produce points, but on the other hand a guy without any real ability to drive the play. Much like Stammer, that guy has to have someone else on his line that does the work. That guy is supposed to be Gaudreau. That's not happening, he's not driving the play at all.

Has Monahan been good? No, but at the same time you can't expect him to be a puck dominant player the same way that a lot of top line centers are. I still think you can win with a guy like that, you just have to have the right pieces around him.

You're right, mostly. This thread hasn't been toxic, IMO. And trash talk is fun when both sides are in on it. I was just (overly-)addressing the complaints.
