I certainly have renewed optimism for Jost after his play in the playoffs

Same. He should have been elevated a lot sooner based on his play and Soderberg should have been demoted. Took too long for Bednar to do this. Jost still needs to figure out that that extra second he had at UND to make a play is not there anymore in the NHL. Saw it often where he would make a good play only to hold onto the puck and lose it to a defender. When he adapts to that and makes quicker decisions I think he can be a solid solid player for us.

Having a linemate that plays a similar down low cycle game will help a lot with that. He's on his own too often now on the forecheck. He holds onto the puck too long, because he tries to win the battle by himself, protect the puck, then find the open man. He gets into trouble when he tries to do all that by himself.
He needs to move the puck quicker to someone that has the same plan, and they can both then come out of the cycle and find the soft spots for scoring chances.
He's been doing a much better job of what I wanted to see from him earlier in the season too, in keeping his feet moving at all times. Working with the skating coach for the Eagles, and making this change to keep his feet moving and carry more momentum has really helped him since his callup.
Another off season to work on his stride with Tracy, some more well earned ice time, along with some PP time, and hopefully we'll start to see Jost produce at a higher rate.
I'd like to see him work on faceoffs all summer too. Turn that into a strength and become a specialist. The Avs could really use a guy like that. Like to see him work with the coaches in training camp to become a regular PKer too. These two things are perfect for the role he plays.
Either I read it and forgot or just plain didn't know, but it wasn't until I read that Ian Tulloch article about Kerfoot that Jost had been battling a hand injury most or all of last season. That might be a big reason why he looked so ineffective for long stretches of the season.
I think this upcoming year is make-or-break for him. If indeed Bednar does the lines as projected he will never have a better chance than this fall to finally prove his worth. But if we see more of the same and he tumbles down the lineup, I seriously don't see him being in Colorado in October of 2020.

I think Jost will be around for awhile, whether or not it's a top 6 role vs bottom 6 is the real question. Had no idea about his hand injury though.
I know some people see him as a 3rd liner, and maybe that's what he is (or worse), but if he's not a top-six guy for the Avs I don't think they'll keep him. I mean...maybe they will if they see some utility there since he'll be cheap to re-up, but usually, as some here have pointed out, if a prospect doesn't really wow them in his ELC, they usually move on. If Compher more or less passes him up on the depth chart I really think he'll be gone by the deadline.
And this includes a scenario where he suffers another fairly serious injury. I really want him to succeed, but I'm still pessimistic on his chances. So far he doesn't seem fast enough, strong enough, or durable enough for the NHL, which is a shame because IMO he's done everything else right.

Yeah that surprised me as well when I read that. That could explain a lot especially why suddenly he started playing a lot better a the end of the season.

The nice thing about Jost is if he were to ‘bust’, he’s still a guy who can play in your bottom 6. He did have to play with some pretty bad players this year, so that should be noted.
I do still think there’s some potential. This is a big season though, if he doesn’t put up some numbers this year, while he plays with Kadri, I don’t think he’ll ever be a top-6 guy.

I still maintain that if he's gonna be a scorer of any kind, that one-timer of his has got to get to NHL level. But then again, the hand injury may have played a part in that as well.
At the very least I want to see him and Kadri wreak havoc on the forecheck. They should be able to cause turnovers and offense off transition given how much speed and skill projects to be on that line.

I didn't know he had a hand injury. Anyway, I'm a big fan of Jost and think the Avs patience will be rewarded. Agree that he could have a breakout season.

20 goals 30 assists would be a breakout imo for Jost.
Seems like second line LW is the plan, at least for now.

Except it's not only 2 games. We've seen him play around 150 games now. It's just clear he hasn't taken another step. It was evident even in that first preseason game.

Jost was one of the Avs better players after returning from the AHL last season. If you want to judge players based on the preseason and two regular season games then go ahead. I think a little more patience is called for.
He's a friend of my niece so I have to root for him... even if he chose to go to that NAzi backed votech calling itself a university.
