Maybe he goes to Seattle. Pretty close to home aswell.
ideal situation for Oilers would be Seattle drafting him as their selection from Oilers after coming to an agreement with him.
Oilers dont lose another player to expansion.

Would love for him to stay. Career wise meaning fit and legacy the Oilers are probably the best fit for him. He’s been a big part of our team this year.

Pro hockey is a business though, I won’t blame him if he chases the money. I’ve loved what he’s brought to our team and will always be a fan of his. Seems like a really well liked guy and good teammate as well.

I doubt the Oilers would be the highest bidder, but it would be nice if we could nab him on a 3-4 year deal. He likely wants more of a 6-7 year deal though and I don’t blame him at all for that.

He is Risto if Risto was on a good team. A liability defensively but puts up a lot of points if you put him on your PP.

So what I’m translating is Zegras is a scrub, and if Anaheim drafts Beniers he’s also a scrub. And Anaheims lines don’t ever in any sort of conversation can possibly translate a productive season like Barrie is doing now.

Okay then. That’s what I’m interpreting at the moment. When Anaheim has some good forwards in production. That can maximize his talent, as well his production. We are also hopefully resigning Comtois as well. Why does McDavid and Drai have to be the end all be all? Really?

Barrie was pretty terrible on a PP unit with Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander and friends not to mention a tire fire defensively so it’s more of a comment on how Barrie is in the perfect place now and there’s no guarantees he translates somewhere else.

But by all means feel free to misinterpret my comments about the Ducks and spend your money however you want!

We all knew this was the plan. It was a brilliant move to take a small 1 year contract to play with McDavid and Draisaitl to raise his value. Now that the plan has succeeded you know he's going to be looking to capitalize on that investment.

Agreed, he didn’t work out with the leafs but has worked out perfectly for the oilers. Good for him, seems like a good team guy

He is doing exactly as he should.

But some team is going to regret giving him a big contract.
I agree. No Oiler D was more sheltered and spent more time with #97. Props on racking up the points but he had a ton of useless secondary pp points.
That being said any team that needs a PP specialist that can shelter the hell out of him should be happy.

Had a great year for us paired with Nurse, but I hope we don’t give him the boat anchor contract he’s gonna want. Let him walk and get Bouchard into the lineup.

Bouchard/Larsson/Bear is a pretty damn solid group to move forward with. Bouch has shown in his limited pt this year that he has game, and the potential is sky high.

Will be a disastrous contract before the ink is even dry.

Flyers, Rangers, Hawks, and Stars. I think it'll be one of those four.

Rangers and Hawks are already full on the right side. Stars don't need an "offenseman", only so much PP time to go around. Maybe Philly, they need RD and they're impulsive. But they mostly just need better defenders.

If Seattle knows he's going to test FA why not just pick someone else and then call Barrie first chance you get. There's going to be a decent cheap depth piece/role player available from Edmonton.

He is Risto if Risto was on a good team. A liability defensively but puts up a lot of points if you put him on your PP.

Puck moving is TB's bread and butter, the only reason he has success in this league. Risto isn't that good on that front that he'd put up the same numbers just by being on a better team, but he has other traits.

so 27/48pts 2ndary assists
23/48pts on PP (11 of which 2ndary)
only 5pts not with McDrai

Im not obsessed with the whole 2ndary assist is lesser thing, especially as a guy who watches Hughes do all the work and end up with the 2ndary apple often, but those splits are quite daunting.

If he's looking for 5+yrs at 7+ AAV that screams paper tiger. But 4-6yrs at 5-6.5mil is probably fine IF you are confident your situation is one that will gel with him.

A guy like that you allocate half the payout based on his defensive game and the other half on his offensive game. I think there are better defenders out there at league minimum so lets say 1M/year for his D game and 7M/year MAX for his offence so average 4M/year MAX. If he doesn't take that or you don't have a good defensive D to pair him with, let him go.

Ideal for teams would be 4 M$ x 2-3 years and ideal for Barrie would be 7 M$ x 7 years. Because of flat cap, I say no one is paying what his agent puts on the table so what he is getting is middle ground offer 5.25-5.5 M$ for 4-5 years. For those he will get plenty to make his choice.

2nd assists on the powerplay are far from useless. I am not sure why this narrative has taken hold.

Word on the street is that Barrie wants a 5-6 year term and Holland doesn't want to commit that long. I guess because Barrie is 29? If they could agree on 4 years and a semi-reasonable cap hit I bet it would work out for everyone. If not, I wish Barrie the best. He has been everything we could've asked for.

Some team will look at his inflated numbers this year ad blow their load on a long term contract. Good luck with that. It's a shame there isn't a true middle ground for players like this.

He's a smart kid. He didn't sign with the Oilers for this year, he signed with them for himself next year.
