42M/8y?

Abysmal offer.

You are aware that Petry signed for more than that 5y ago and Crappy Alzner just 0,5M less a couple years ago?

Elite puck movers are getting paid. Krug is one of the best in the game. Anything under 7M is another steal for Sweeney.
The market dictates that. But do you think Sweeney will pay him 8/9 M, a year.

True Jean, I know EK got 11M today
I get it. Krug might take a little less. I feel he won’t break the bank if he chooses extension with bruins.

Having Marchand-Bergy-Pasta all well under market value might help.

I also think he will sign for a good number.

I would personally go up to 7.5M. 4M less than Karlsson.

In the end it will probably take that. I think they do it before July 1st. Or sometime later in the summer.

I’m curious what people here think might be the type of “unique opportunity” that might be able cause them to trade Krug. Maybe not necessarily propose packages but what player, barring the ridiculous like McDavid, Crosby, etc., could be the one?

For historical reference: Wideman got us Horton.

Montreal are desperate for Dmen , the Bruins aren't. Montreal has to overpay, the Bruins don't. The money your proposing is insane. Krug is a PP specialist and average at best in every other scenario. If the PO's are going to be called like what we just witnessed in the PO's , what is the point. I'm not interested in finishing high up there during the regular season, all that means is a shitty draft pick. I want to win cups and if the NHL is going to call games the way they do then I don't overpay for a player that will be marginalized by lack of PP's.

Why are you basing it on Karlsson's contract when just about everybody posters and pundits think that is an insane contract that SJ will regret.

Someone posted it on the first page and is 100 % bang on.

The Bruins can't have 2 defensemen in their top 6 who are 5' 9".

So realistically one of them has to go and I say Krug because you will get more bang for your buck in the return.

I really enjoyed his playoffs this year and I do believe he stepped up but for every good play where I found myself saying, damn that was awesome, there were 2 that I was screaming at him. Personally I can live with those mistakes by McAvoy and Carlo, they are still young but not Krug.

If this team is going to compete against Tampa and the Leafs and others then they need more help up front. Krejci has been waiting 2 years now for a proper RWer and that could of helped this year.

Wideman and a middle first round pick I believe.

Sweeney will get Krug extended. Chara is nearing the end, might be one more season, after that who knows. Bergeron will be 34 nearing 35 when next years playoffs start, Krejci will be 34 just in mid-April.

They'll need top guys and leaders in that 27-31 age range. That's Marchand, that's Krug. He's part of this core and unless Sweeney is blown away with an offer (think an age-comparable top line winger or center), Krug will be part of the mix for quite some time year. He'll wear a letter for the Bruins before it's all said and done.

It seems everyone else heard Sweeney say he's going to extend Krug.

I heard him tell 30 other GMs, make me a unique offer and he's yours. Otherwise, I'm keeping him.

Now that Karlsson and Trouba are done, Krug is looking like more of an option for some teams. I do think it will take a very high draft pick that lets the Bruins draft a #1C.

Did you write this post in the spring of 2018 and save it to a word document to drum up now?

Trouba trade showed that the market is not nearly as hot is could be for the top d-man. Krug does have one year left for his contract, but does this have so huge affect in the market that bruins will get good compensation.

For some reason i saw flashback from the history when Blues traded Steve Duchesne from Quebec for peanuts.

I'd trade Krug but if I had to sign him I'm not going over 6.67 a year at the absolute most.
What about 6.68?

To echo a couple in here - the foolish money thrown at Karlsson and the relative scraps that Winnipeg got for Trouba make signing Krug to a deal that's in line with the team's structure the clear way to go. If it means giving him an extra year or two then it's worth it. The other options just aren't so shiny.

If the first two lines showed up, the Bruins would have won with two short D. Krug and Gryz weren't the issue.

It will take more than a high draft pick. Trouba was a free agent, and I'd put Krug way above him in value too - and even he got a d-man + 20th OA. I don't disagree with you, I also read between the lines there and think it was as much of a message to the other GMs as it was an endorsement of Torey. I personally want to keep him, as I see him being one of the key leaders in the future. Not to mention he's a great hockey player.

Trouba was an RFA instead of UFA so not a true free agent. As for skill wise, he is quite good. I would trade Krug for the package Trouba got back. Pionk is very, very meh. He is was people think Krug is.

True, but Trouba can also go to arbitration this summer, get a 1-year deal awarded and walk next summer as a UFA. So his situation and Krug's aren't really all that different.
