This is the territory where it starts to get questionable if he’s worth that. That’s not far off from #1 LHD money and he will never be that.

Krug is one of the best power play guys in the business but 5v5 there’s certainly more left to be desired for someone making $8m

Only problem is if you don’t sign Krug, who do you go after?

This teams D depth is their strength. You don't NEED to add anyone on D if he leaves. If they do, they do... but this team is set up real well on the back end.

With the smurfs
Torey will do what’s best for Torey and his family - sorry PA.

0.0 he’s thinking about how his discount effects future defenseman

No doubt he’s in the driver seat and can get prime UFA money and term as one of the top offensive D in the game.

Ultimately, he’ll decide if he wants to stay on a top contender in Boston for less or if he goes elsewhere and get more.

Bruins in great shape either way.

Either he accepts Marchand-Bergy-Pasta money and Bruins keep the best PP crew for a few years or he leaves, Bruins promote their top ELC and have ~6M to pursue a top-6 W.

Win-Win

Lebrun says there is an agent that is valuing Torey Krug at 8mil per

just sounds like an unsavory agent trying to up values using the media. i suppose maybe someone would
consider $8M but that seems pretty extreme. 7x7 seems about right, maybe 7.5 max.

I don’t doubt Krug can get 8x8 on the open market. I would love to see him get it, he won’t get it here...if he’s okay with that I would love it even more.

i mean, he can't get 8x8 on the open market. only boston could give him 8 years.
but you know that :thumbu:

ehh after chara is gone the Bruins will definitely need a top pairing LHD. Even if krug is signed, there isn’t anyone in the pipeline that is a true #1 LHD

The cap hit will be scary but people are also ignoring how bad term could be. Little skating ability that he has is one injury away from going. Look at sharks with Karlsson, at least he is effective 5v5.

Alternative is we sign a pp specialist like Gustafsson who would produce the same, and put the leftover money towards forward.

He may be worth 7.5 M but I’m sticking 6/$40 ~ $6.75

if he wants 7 years and/or $7 M I usher in the Grzelcyk/Lauzon/Vaakanainen/Zboril era next year on the left side

$6.5/yr for 5 years is my best offer. John Carlson at $8m is the comp? John Carlson is on another level, he's the favorite to win the Norris. Krug will never win the Norris.

Krug talked a lot of smack about guys who said they'd take a hometown discount and didn't. Time to put up or shut up. Like Ray Bourque said, "What can you do with $7.5m that you can't do with $6.5?" If staying here isn't worth the discount to him then let someone else take on the risk of signing him into his mid-30's and move on to the next generation.

Gryz is an outstanding top4 defenseman.
Vaakanainen has the potential to be a top2 defenseman.
Lauzon is here and playing well. Maybe he moves back to the left and forms a really physical 3rd pair with Connor Clifton.
