Nope, I don’t think anyone is saying he’s a bad offensive defenseman.
And I’m not saying he’s a shutdown D either and I don’t think anyone else here is. But he’s certainly not horrible

Oh yes he is
I'd feel like the Bruins paid an awful lot to move up. I think that would be a lot to pay, unless it's moving into the top 2-4. Still a lot to pay I think.
Krug is not “horrible”
To state so is being stubborn for some reason that you don’t like the player.
Serious question:
Why do posters have whipping boys?
I really don't get it. Players who play for the team I root for get my support good or bad. Yes, they can and should be criticized when warranted (to a degree) and analyzed etc. but why do posters feel the need to absolutely trash players like Krug and Rask?
It's relative though. If I call Chara a below average skater, I'm not comparing him to everyone that skates. It bothers me when any NHL player is called "horrible". An NHL player called "horrible" was in most cases the phenom/best player on their team/school/area for most of their life. The kid everyone bragged about, and the scouts noticed. I guess you can say they are "horrible" at the NHL level, but it's inaccurate to say they are horrible hockey players.
Exactly. Everyone knows Krug is an Offensive D-Man (thank God -- we need the points from the blueline). His defensive game has some challenges. However, any Bruins fan who says he's horrible isn't worth the time to read what they post. And I’m not saying he’s a shutdown D either and I don’t think anyone else here is. Horrible should be reserved for the Beleskeys and Hayes.Exactly. Everyone knows Krug is an Offensive D-Man (thank God -- we need the points from the blueline). His defensive game has some challenges. However, any Bruins fan who says he's horrible isn't worth the time to read what they post.
Horrible, my ass.
Whenever people speak in absolutes (except when it's to say that Bergeron is awesome) I typically ignore. Very few if any NHL players are horrible or suck. And as you say, Krug most certainly isn't one of them.
My issue with Krug is there hasn't really been much improvement at all in his defense game. He consistently generates some bad turnovers or defensive gaffs and there doesn't seem to be much improvement in places other than offense.
I wish he was more explosive in the defensive zone, it would help him separate from fore-checkers. If he had Grizz's skating he wouldn't have as many problems defensively. His conditioning and skating seems like it hasn't transformed in the last 4 years.
This would have been a perfect season to experiment with his body
maybe lose 5-7 pounds and see if that even helps with his skating speed a little. Cam talked about this in the offseason (needs to work on skating/pick up some speed)

Krug is in a different league offensively than JML. Krug's game in the offensive zone sets him apart from most defensemen I can think of in the last decade. Even Karlsson might not be as good on the PP as Krug (I'd say his transition game is better though). Krug is unique in how good he is in one zone. He sometimes makes brilliant transition plays, but he makes most of his hay in the O-zone.wishful thinking.... if he was just a step quicker than he is now, it would help
Krug and John Michael-liles (a few seasons ago) were the last of these shorter, not swift skating, offensive capable Ds left in the league (grandfathered)
these days if you are 5'11 and shorter D, it is a bare minimum that good skating is required. Grz, Brannstrom come to mind
What the **** is going on in here
In fairness he’s been a standout on the awful scale. Can’t hide it like a forward either of which there were a few standouts there too.Two ugly losses and the torches and pitchforks come out looking for a victim. Krugenstein's monster.

If he were 4 inches taller and drafted no one would really be complaining about his defensive game. And I’m not saying he’s a shutdown D either and I don’t think anyone else here is. But he’s certainly not horrible
