Ask any Ottawa fan and Cowan was their best defenseman all year when Karlsson was down. He's their #2 when Karlsson is back.

He just turned 22, is 6'5 and an all-round player.

I honestly don't think Ottawa would even included him in any deal.

If Gillis was offered Cowen and Mika, he should accept it as soon as possible.

I understand Canucks fans are high on Edler but with his back issues and Cowen's potential ontop of what he already is would be too good to pass up especially in a Cap world.

You're thinking of Methot. Cowen played 7 regular season games this year.

Nope, I'm still thinking Cowen.

Just ask any Ottawa fan. Go into their Board and pose the question about Cowen.

I guarantee that they will agree he's their #2.

How can someone be "Their best defensive player all year" When he only plays 7 games?

Same way Kesler can be the Canucks best forward when only playing 17.

I also include playoffs as being apart of the year.

It's fine if you think otherwise but Cowen is getting severely underrated here.

As usual, can't just go to Capgeek and look strictly at the numbers.

I like Cowen and all but I think Marc Methot's 47 game defensive excellents out values Cowen's 7. Yes Cowen is a good young player, but Ottawa would easily give him up for Edler.

I'm sorry, but you're just wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, mayor of Wrongville. You said Cowen was Ottawa's best defenseman all year when Karlsson was out? He played 4 games when Karlsson was injured.

You're thinking of Methot. Trust me.

I could see Ottawa fans saying that Karlsson and Cowen are 1&2 on their depth for the future, but right now #2 is Methot and Cowen has a ways to go to knock him from that perch. What a steal trading Foligno for him. He was solid for London in shutting down Crosby during the Memorial Cup.

Vancouver. Duh.
It would be nice to have Gagne on the 2nd line but I know ur joking and it probably won't happen.

Yeah, I was 100% joking. Gagne is super injury prone and hasn't really produce when healthy since 2011. Unless we got him for like 700k, I wouldn't actually want him on our team.

Gerbe I wouldn't mind though, but not on the 2nd line. He'd be a decent replacement for Raymond.

If Edler were going to get traded, it would have been (and should have been) at the Draft.

My interpretation, and I'm sure it's the same for many on here, is that Edler is only getting traded if we a sign a pricey free agent, and that an Edler return would probably feature a guy on an ELC who can contribute now (as in your suggested trades) so I don't think Edler being traded at the draft really makes that much sense. We're probably not looking for draft picks, and if we miss out on all the pricey free agents we're interested in, we're probably not trading Edler. Seems to me trading at the draft would have been jumping the gun.

Holy... Edler is not a cap dump.
That's probably the worst proposal by a Canucks fan for trading Edler I've seen so far (unless you plan on the Flyers having the 1st overall pick next year).

If we're trading with the Flyers, then one of B. Schenn/Couturier will need to be coming back to us.

Why do we want to trade Edler so bad?

If he's at $5 mil he needs to be a $5 mil d-man and i'm not positive he's worth it...

Re-doing with Edler:

FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Jarome Iginla ($4.750m)
Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Zack Kassian ($0.870m)
Chris Higgins ($2.500m) / Jordan Schroeder ($0.851m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m)
Dale Weise ($0.700m) / Steckle ($750m) / Matt Halischuk ($0.750m)
Tom Sestito ($0.750m) /

DEFENSEMEN
Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)
Jason Garrison ($4.600m) / Tom Gilbert ($2.000m)
Alex Edler ($5.000m) / Chris Tanev ($1.300m)
Frank Corrado ($0.599m) / Jonathon Blum ($0.700m)

GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo ($5.333m)
Dany Sabourin ($0.525m)

Issue is cheap cheap depth needed.

^ I don't mean to pick on your proposals, but I highly doubt Blum will sign with a team where he is the 7th/8th d-man. He'll want to sign with a team where he gets a chance to play every night, and I'm sure there will be many teams interested in him.

I don't see Tanev at 1.3 He's asking for 2.5 to 3 and I wouldn't be surprised to see an offer sheet.

We can't have Luongo and Talbot on the same team.

They'd spend more time fighting/playing with each other for poker supremacy, team mates would eventually take sides and BOOM!... just like that... a divided dressing room.

Messier era all over again.

Tanev is out of his mind if he wants $2.5M per. Subban got $2.875M and Del Zotto got $2.55M while being much better players and having bigger roles on their teams.

The absolute most he should get is $1.75M on a 3+ year deal.

PK salary is 3.75 this coming year. I can see Tanev getting north of 2 and I can see an offer sheet possibility.
