You continue to use reg season stats as an argument about playoff success when the exact opposite is true. They didn't produce in the playoffs.

And that Sedin Iginla line would be hard pressed to gain possession outside of a PP in the o zone when they don't have Burr for puck retrieval

12 points in 15 games is not producing? And he accomplished this as a depth player, never once used with Crosby or Malkin to my recollection. Iggy may not have been great, but even the Pittsburgh media have near unanimously blamed Bylsma for that, not Iginla.

The reigning Conn Smythe winner put up 9 goals, 10 assists in 23 games. Iginla was on pace to reach 8 and 15 respectively. Now I doubt he reaches that pace, but point being, he was producing quite well.

That line was fine when we rotated Kassian in. Iginla wouldn't hinder it.

I'm with LiquidSnake on this one, I don't see why Vancouver would move Edler for Letang. Yes of course Letang is the better player, but Edler is signed to a great contract for 6 more years while Letang either leaves as a free agent or is extended for 7.5 per year. I don't think Letang's value being that much greater without contracts with contracts from a Vancouver perspective Edler hold more value this is without mentioning the fact we'd probably have to even add to Edler to entice the Pens enough. I'd be interested in Letang but only at the expense of Bieksa++

Just for clarity, neither were Van and I. We've only being arguing between Iginla, Ryder and etc. I wouldn't move Edler for Letang for the simple reason the upgrade is not substantial enough to offset both that cost in cap and assets. I would go with Bieksa + Jensen/Kassian + 1st on the condition we are allowed to negotiate an extension beforehand.

Oh yeah I know that, was just agreeing with LS take on not moving Edler for Letang. I do though agree with you guys on bringing in a guy like Ryder or Iginla. More so Ryder because of one shot scorer attribute we desperately need a player like that.

Just for ***** and giggles. The other perks to Iginla?

- Calgary fans would cry seeing him wearing the Orca.
- Edmonton and Boston fans would have new reasons to hate us.
- I would dare Marchand to punch the Sedins with Iginla on their line.
- If we won the cup, half this site would complain and say Iginla's win is tainted.

All in all, that's a win right there. :P

I certainly wouldn't complain about signing Iginla. He's not the elite player he once was, but IMO, he's still a legitimate top-six forward who may well have some incentive to sign here, what with his BC connections.

Your recollection is incorrect. Iginla played with Malkin/Crosby the majority of the playoffs. He was moved to the third line in the Boston series when it was clear he couldn't keep up.

His numbers were pretty good, but his on-ice play was not. He's clearly lost a step, and is essentially a 2nd/3rd line PP specialist at this point. Still has a great shot, but he's slower and train wreck in his own end.

Could be, but most of the reasons I've heard for his lack on interest would eliminate just about every team from contention.

He'll want to win, he want's a longish term to potentially retire after and he'll want somewhere pleasant for his family to live. I mean Vancouver hits that to a T, but Torts and the travel and the West coast factor...I don't think he's likely here.

Dreger and other TSN guys are saying 3+ years at 5...if that's all he gets, I'd be pissed if Gillis didn't at least throw an offer his way. On a longer term, he'd get less then what we expect Roy to get (although his 5 million that's being reported might not happen with the sudden surge of centers and the resigning of others).

I don't think Gillis should buyout Ballard. He can trade him to a team with a **** defense like the Oilers, Islanders, Avalanche, etc for a mid round pick. Saves ownership money and they get an asset.

Someone wrote an article about how no manager wants to approach his owner to cut a big cheque for a buyout, only to watch the guy sign with another team and be a productive player for them. IMO, Ballard is a guy who would fit in that category. Put him on a non-AV coached team, and I fully expect him to regain his confidence and form.

Whether it's by trade or by FA acquisition, I think someone's going to get a steal of a deal on Ballard.

Fair enough. Pens were carrying on about Bylsma not using him properly. Suppose hearsay is beneficial.

Yes, but he still has one year left on his contract at his current price. Therefore, I went with stacking the roster for a year. If Iginla only signs for one year, we'd be covered, otherwise Booth can be dealt or the Sedins re-sign for less.

Sadly, I agree. If we could afford him, I would love to give Ballard an actual opportunity to play here.

I agree. I think Ballard and Torts would mesh really well and he'd start playing like the player he was supposed to be when he was brought in.

Unfortunately someone has to go and it looks like Booth is here to stay even though he is a walking injury.

Higgins might not mesh well with Torts (remember his brief time in New York following the Gomez trade) and Luongo's move for non-cap assets, and some cap neutral moves (and some luck with RFAs taking arbitration or signing QOs for one year, and it's possible.

The problem here is that it's basically the same team as last year except with the addition of a few rookies. I think the team is going to need a bigger shake up than that.

Also according to his brother who posts here, Higgins was contacted by Gillis asking him about Torts prior to his signing so he must have put in a good word for him.

Higgins played pretty solid for Torts in New York. He was still recovery from injuries and I imagine his confidence was hit hard. Montreal was his boyhood team and he repeatedly mentioned how awesome it was to play for them. I think it was more to do with those than not working with Torts.

Yeah it's not much better then last year, unless the rookies set the world on fire. I'm not advocating the team, just saying it's possible to keep Ballard.

And that's news I didn't get, but in that case I guess I'm off base because of what I saw on the ice. That seems to be explained by...

...this. I woulda thought growing up in Long Island that he'd have pulled for the Islanders or Rangers, but injuries and being moved from your favourite team would suck the life out of me too.
