The Soo
Fischhaber has been in his own world since October. Too high of expectations and rather than admit he over-estimated our chances this year, he doubles down with cherry picked stats and ad hominem attacks.
Pretty sure he has me on ignore from one of his temper tantrums during our losing streak.

Come on man what are doing ? I suggest laying low for a while you're going to get some serious negative attention now... Uncalled for comments and in 24 hours two fans have tarnished the"Soo Fans" image. First the guy flipping off the Knights and now this. I hate to say it but I'd like to see him be held accountable.. @nelli27 @EON

This is pretty nasty, who the hell is this guy. Being a Ranger fan we experienced the wack a doos in the Soo when Smith had to have a police escort in game 7 when he was suspended. I don't want to paint all the Soo fans with the same brush but this guy needs some serious counselling.

If it isn’t Bill M then it is a disservice to him to attach his name to these posts.

What happened to smith that day was brutal.
I made it to every game in Kitchener and game 7 in the soo. With the exception of Owen Sound, I’ve never seen anything like the battle between the fans in that series, but that’s what it’s like being an away fan in playoffs.

Just reading that after catching up on this thread made me reminisce about what a good time that year was. Respect the down year, appreciate the chance to see players develop into players you build a run around, and stay excited about the future. Being a fan is supposed to be fun, it’s not meant to be built around hate.

Really impressive list of potential draftee's. Impressed as all hell at the final 4 on that list. The top 2 with O'Rourke and Pytlik were predictable. Glad the rest were getting looked at. Guys, isn't this team just impressive? I bloody love everything about it from the players to the owners. Absolutely fantastic. Enjoy your day!

I'm being told the Hounds will roll three goalies. One sits. Taylor isn't happy but going to stick it out which leads me to believe that the team for sure plans to take the run next year and Ethan wants to be a part.

It's not Ethan's fault that Propp sucked and they had to get Brkin haha

I think you are a little misguided in your thought process. If they are having to run 3 goalies it is because of the GM and the euro goalie and nothing to do with a goalie they got rid of 2 months ago. If they hadn't got rid of propp they would still be in the same situation.
Euro goalie held GM over a barrel with his indecision/negotiation tactics and once again the GM's master plan for this season has gotten screwed up.
Lay blame where it truly needs to be.

Disagree somewhat with both assessments.

My assessment is that keeping 3 goalies has everything to do with the team being in tough trying to earn a playoff spot. Maybe if Propp (and the rest of the team) had been better earlier in the season they would have earned some breathing room and traded away their OA goalie at the deadline. Or if the West was more like the East and the Greyhounds we comfortably in a playoff spot with their current record they might have done the same. Unfortunately that isn't the case, and the Greyhounds desperately want this group to get to the playoffs so they kept Brkin. Whether Malik committed earlier or not had no bearing on this as he wasn't going to report until after WJC anyway.

The plan would have certainly been to get Ethan Taylor more minutes this season, but you know what they say about best laid plans.

You act as if you don't know the process of imports. The European goalie doesnt owe us ANYTHING. It's his right , his choice.

The issue was Propp failed. He was their plan during the summer and they put trust in him.

Propp was added to the Soo on June 7th. 20 days before Malik was even drafted or Soo property. The Greyhounds wanted to fill the goalie void with a experienced overager goalie this year and they took the worst possible one, it hurt the start of the year. The reason they did this is as @HockeyPops said they wanted to make playoffs with this squad this year. If not they could have signed Coulter Taylor, let Ethan Taylor play as much as possible, sink to the bottom and get THE FIRST OVERALL PICK IN PRIORITY DRAFT AND IMPORT DRAFT. ( That's what last in OHL gets this year )

I know exactly how it works, changing the narrative to fit your point is a futile effort on your behalf.
The Soo got propp because they needed a veteran goalie as taylor was not an option. Issue is GM jumped the gun as he had no idea euro would fall in his lap. Had he waited I am sure he would have promised euro the world to come over before season started. If you had a chance to read my book before it was removed from the forum you would have seen I laid it out how everything was planned.
HockeyPops said it perfectly - best laid plans...
Propp was not a fit for the team, your GM came out and stated that. The best decision he made was to trade him; it has helped the Soo and it has helped him.
Brkin has helped the team turn around and they have worked through their defensive liabilities.
The 3 goalie situation the Soo is in now has nothing to do with propp and everything to do with the fact the euro goalie did not show up before the trade deadline because they were still negotiating the deal.
Had euro shown up before then, GM could've moved brkin but most likely taylor. Now his hands are tied because he can't move, cut, waive or release any of the goalies.

I would say they are continuing to work through them.

I don't think they would have moved Brkin because of the threat of missing the playoffs. This Ruicci article says they knew Malik was coming on Thursday afternoon and likely tried to move Taylor before the Friday deadline. But Taylor has the capability be a reliable backup for us next year, and now he has time to put in some work and get ready to prove himself.
Malik commits — finally

HockeyPops, I agree 100% they are working towards improving that side of the game and for the most part has started to tighten it up a bit. Also agree that would have kept Brkin for a bit if Malik had shown up earlier to see how he adjusts.
My only issue is they did not start working on it sooner. Propp struggled with the loose defensive system, part of that is on him, part on the team and part on the coaches and gm.
I don't think they would have moved taylor, like you say, he could be a dependable back up next year. I think they would have liked him to drop down to Jr.A but it is a little late in the season for that.
3 goalie system sucks and unfortunately it is Taylor who will draw the short straw. I fee l for the young man.

Did you read today's Ruicci article? Lays the timeline out pretty well. I think we all agree (and Raftis too!) that if we could have gotten Malik to come sooner it would have been great.
As far as jumping the gun on getting Propp, perhaps, but there seems to have been lots of goalie discussions happening early in the offseason with 3 goalies moving in June, and 4 more in the preseason. Maybe Raftis was concerned he wouldn't get his man if he didn't move then?

Gun jumped. Mistake made with Propp. Proof is in the pudding when North Bay turned around and move Purboo. Raftis faced pressure with the goalie situation and took what was available at that time. Propp didn't even train during the summer because he believed he would not be in the OHL the next year.

Malik was never coming till after WJC and Raftis knew that from the start. It was on Malik not Frydek to make decision and I truly believe he wanted to help his team there first and foremost, no facts to back that up but it makes sense with an educated guess.( The wanting to get his team into playoffs spot. After World Juniors his team sat 7 points out of the playoff spot, he came back and took two wins, a wins 3 points, that gave them 6 and the team in the last playoff spot has lost two games too, it got the games played even, and them within 1 point.)

They also tried to move Taylor, for two days. Taylor can also go to The Wellington Dukes, but he made the choice to stay from my understanding.

Don't follow your logic but you seem to think you know everything going on in each one of these players' lives.
The point was Malik's arrival here before the trade deadline would have changed the situation and that situation had nothing to do with any other player.
If Taylor chose to stay and watch the rest of the season from the stands then he got some poor advice.
Then again, doesn't really matter as it may be a short season regardless who plays goal if they don't tighten up defensively.

He’s staying cause he’s the backup next season :)
