Are people not noticing how well Zaitsev is playing with Muzzin, and that just sticking with old well worn narratives may no longer apply? That pairing has looked very good so far.

He's still not worth 4.5 million next year when this team needs every cent possible.

Getting either of them pretty much negates any cap savings we would get by trading Brown in the off season. Also, is 4th line really an issue?
Edmonton is re-rebuilding and will likely have cap space. They could retain salary making Kassian a great value.

4th line is not an issue but grit is, and that is usually addressed on the 4th line. Par Lindholm is a great pker but that's about it.

Kassian may even be bumped up to the 3rd line on occasion and have a Marleau-Kadri-Kassian line. Kadri and Kassian would be a fun combo to watch, they could really stir shit up.

Kassian is a trainwreck on one of the worst teams in the league, which also has the worst winger depth in the league. At best he's a fringe NHLer.

Toughness is great, but you have to be able to play hockey too.

You'd need to find another guy to step into that top 4 then though. How much is he going to cost, both in cap and in assets?

And then if you believe all of this crap about it taking a lot to dump Zaitsev in the first place, then you have even more problems to deal with.

Anyone cheap on the FA market.

Stop defending Zaitsev when he's been awful.

 You think anyone cheap on the UFA market is going to be able to replace Zaitsev...

Good luck with that.
He looks like a different player with Muzzin. Imagine - all it took was playing with someone who understands positioning and reads.

He can play. He already brings a good bit more than Lindholm.

You want to stir **** and start something with this team?

That sounds like a really bad idea when Kassian and Kadri would be the only guys even remotely tough enough to back that up

One guy isn't changing what this team is and our kids aren't going to start hitting and fighting now

If you go on the Bruins board they appear convinced McQuaid to TO is inevitable. I wouldnt mind Kassian. He is a really good skater for a big guy and the Oil throw him in the top 6 from time to time, and lately to showcase him beside McDavid.

Would love McQuaid
Tough as nails
Proven playoff performer
Big
Can fight
Won't cost alot

8g and 15pts playing 13 minutes a night in Edmonton. Brownie has 5G and 20pts playing 14 minutes a night in TO. Kassian has 139 hits and the Leafs top two forwards combined have 143. There is an element of risk as to how much he can help, but the cost wouldn't be great. He can be effective in a physical series and he scored 14 goals one year so he is not exactly Matt Martin offense. Discussing won't make it so, but if they added him I could see why.

I wrote in another thread, that he could play in a series against Boston/Montreal, and if we win that, maybe he sits if we play Tampa, as we won’t need that level of physicality necessarily. We play Washington? He goes back in.

If you pay a late round pick or two for him, it’s no risk, and he adds a sorely lacking element to the team.

I agree. Especially, if they're willing to retain 50% of his salary. That's a cheap depth forward for the looming cap crunch. I prefer him to Clifford.

Jensen is one that comes to mind

And how cheap do you think he is going to come if he's capable of being a top 4 RD on a contender?

If he was really that good, he has absolutely no reason to command anything less than Zaitsev is making right now, unless he wanted to take a discount. Especially after what guys like Alzner, De Haan, etc. went for, and given there really is not much talent on the FA market for defense. Depending on your feelings about Myers, he's the best RD out there after Karlsson and Stralman.

Thanks. I figure Sunday morning seems like a good time to make a trade, since most people think Dubas is the anti-Christ, so he won’t be in church.

Seems like more of a "next Sunday" type of thing. That is when the real TDL goes down.

He would be cheap.
He's what we need in the forward group.
Some snarl

And he plays for Edmonton so they probably haven't trained him that we'll.
Put him under our coaching staff .
