I'm well aware of that. You may want to paint your comments with the wide brush of being 'concerned', but you haven't said "I'm concerned about Laine's attitude and training" and prompted discussion. You have outright stated that he has questionable training and is nonchalant towards it. The guy trains in the summer with Rantenen and other top Finnish athletes. It's not like he's at some third rate barely functional training camp.
Using his answers in a short post season interview session to outright determine that he has chronic injuries and a poor work ethic is what I'm calling out. Especially considering Laine gives far less cliche interview answers than almost anyone else in hockey.
You have no idea what is going on with his training regimen, his work ethic, or what he's being recommended by the staff around him whom are actually responsible for his development.

I've heard this as well but no way to substantiate it.
I hate the Wheeler hate. I love the guy. Ya his age is getting up there and we wanted to keep him while the window is open, not as much for how long and expensive his contract is. He is still elite on PP, but really now should be more of a 2nd line winger 5v5. Would balance our lines more then running ELL. Even if he is in the coaches ears, that is when a coach has to be a hard ass and say sorry to 55/26, it is best for the team and as leaders you will leave it at that. Ya he makes some bad plays from time to time, and i got on his case a bit during regular season as well as 55 about back checking, shift length, worrying more about empty net goals then defending..... but the guy cares more then any other player. His intensity is through the roof in big games. He is still our best choice for captain... he is old school, and very intense and professional and passionate. This could rub young guys the wrong way for sure. But they are paid millions to perform, to win. I don't care if a young guy is not having fun because of Wheeler or does not like his leadership style. I think the bigger issue is on our coach, our young players and the other leaders like Scheifele.
His best friend said hardly anything in that interview.I have been thinking that as a possibility for myself for a while now. He seems to be hogging Scheifele and all the on-ice situations he wants. He even had his exit interview with his best friend Scheifele, it’s just not normal anymore. He seems to be exercising quite a reign and I don’t get that sense from other captains in the league. Didn’t get that feeling from him last year either, I think things may have gotten into his head. If that’s the case I hope this season put the boys back on earth and they are ready to go next year again!
Or at least providing a reason for it..... that was believable.
Chirps refs for future calls, reviews plays on ipad, looks at goalie from across ice to confirm challenge?Honest question - I really like Maurice’s persona but what exactly is he doing behind the bench? He has admittedly delegated leadership to the vets, the assistant coaches take care of special teams and goalie training, and his running of the bench is also very formulaic — so what exactly does he do?
Maybe Wheeler needs to be traded. if he is sabotaging the team and some of the core wants out because of him, then that needs to be seriously considered. Seems Wheeler's ego is out of control.
Didn't you hear the reason that Wheeler and Scheifele aren't going to the IIHF World's? Because their teams wouldn't let them play together! Hey oh!
Making millions doesn't mean you somehow lose human emotions. The idea that just because you make a lot of money you don't have the right to be annoyed and angry is pretty ludacris imo.
So he's not elite on the PP and not elite at even strength? How did he put up 91 points then?

Ditto. Signing Laine for 8 years terrifies the hell out of me because there is no improvement. He was best as a rookie. I think the question of how bad he wants to be the best in terms of how much effort he'll put into getting there is an important one. The history of the league is littered with guys with loads of talent and something really special like Laine's shot who had no consistency or longevity because they did not mind the small details.

No harm in speculating. And generally, where there is smoke, there's fire. The rift in the room has gone beyond speculation -- its for real. We as fans may not be right every time, but its pretty obvious some of the issues that younger players would have when you see how some vets are treated by Maurice vs how the young guys are treated
Do you read my posts fully?
I state 2 times I am concerned with his lack of development since coming in to the league, and it concerns me he has played 2 consecutive seasons hampered by the same back injury.
His training during the offseason obviously did not correct or help his back problem, as he still has back problems. Nor did his training improve his skating, because his skating has not improved since coming into the league. I will argue he moved best in his first season, which could suggest his skating has regressed.
Spare me his offseason workout, Ive watched all the videos available on it, read all the translated articles, I am not questioning the legitimacy of it. But facts are Laine has yet to take a strong step in his development since coming in the league, so something is not working for him.
If this is the case and the Jets are not seeing progressive results couldn’t they insist on him changing his training regimen? If they are going to be investing long term in him, couldn’t they have a regimen catered strictly to what they deem to be his biggest needs.
They should have a better pulse on his overall training as part of his development.
They can make suggestions, offer help but ultimately the player has full control.
A specialist for his back would be something the team would have a say in, I would have to think, and control the recovery and sustainability plan for it.
