So, is this the new big rivalry? Boston vs. Pittsburgh. Greater than Montreal in the last decade?
Rivals, no, it's just who we loathe.

Well that's a brilliant tactic by the NHL -- stall for as long as possible on making the original decision. Then drag your feet on the appeal. I still wish Thornton would have taken things further with the league. I agree with him obviously that it was too long. Kudos to him though for putting the team completely before himself. Standing up for his teammates due to referee incompetence and Orpik's wussiness got him into the predicament, now he is taking another one for the team so as not to cause further distraction. That is Thornton for you. I love his character and it is no wonder he is so beloved in the room. I hope the Garden gives him a rousing standing O upon his return.
Orpik plays and Eriksson is still out concussed. **** the Pens and the NHL who bows to their will.
I hope somebody puts Orpik through the glass the next time we play them
Cant say enough how much i despise that organization
Thornton said his teammates have provided a support system for him, and players from other teams had reached out, including Raffi Torres, Adam Burish, Jay Rosehill, and Paul Bissonnette.
I believe Shawn will get a nice ovation when he returns.
I know a couple of not so young ladies in my section that will be on their feet cheering for him.
wasn't about the games, it was about saving some of the 90k in salary
It's too bad the system is set up that even a 15 game suspension will be fully served before appeals are fully completed. That should probably be addressed in the new CBA since the league is planning on giving longer suspensions.
I respect Thorntons decision although I would have liked to see the arbitrator's decision. Honesty fans should just vote him for the 7th player just so he can cash in the car and get some money back that way. My god the other fan bases would just rage, I would love it.
“I’d rather not be a distraction around here and I’d rather just focus on getting ready for Jan. 11,†Thornton said. “I’m not going to lie to you, it wasn’t an easy decision. I’ve been thinking about it for the last 36 hours, not much sleep.
“But I feel, for the team, it’s probably the right thing to do, I guess, at this point, not going through the whole process again for a third time.â€

Thornton also appreciated the kind words that Orpik himself had to say about him upon his return from the concussion he suffered.
“We've known each other for a long time and I said that right after the fact, that we're friends and obviously the outcome was not what was intended and I felt awful about it. . . We've talked, we talked that night. We were still friends after that night, from talking, and that helped me a little bit through this for sure.”
Justin St Pierre;77094085 I believe so said:Shawn is a great team leader and person. He made a mistake but he was standing up for the dirty hit on Loui.
I think most here feel Shawn deserved a suspension but the amount of games he got was not fair for his first time.
Most here on the B's board respect a player who stands up for another player.
It's not like Shawn is a player like matt cooke.
Agreed on Torres moral compass. I hold it in the same esteem as I hold Mario Lemieux . Right in the ****ter.

Or James Neal
That knee to Brad's head was bad. I thought it was worse than what Shawn did...and I think Shawn deserved a suspension...but Neal's suspension should have been as long if not longer.
I like how Shawn came right out and said he made a mistake . Speaks to the kind of man he is.

Boston Bruins @NHLBruins 2m
Shawn Thornton switches into a black jersey to join Dougie on defense during a controlled scrimmage. #throwback ^CS
Looks like we have our Seidenberg replacement
Didn't he play defense in Junior for a bit?
