11.7 million for a player that can’t stay healthy and hasn’t hit 70 points. Matthews has unreal potential but that cap hit should be for 8 years. Now can we all stop complaining about Draisaitl’s contract. He’s going to get 100 points or close to it this season while making less then a lot of high end players now.

Chia handled it poorly but Toronto is going to need to do pretty much the same thing. Trade Nylander for pennies (GM promised he wouldn’t trade him), probably lose Kapanen/Gardiner. As we learned top 4 D don’t just fall out of the sky and all they have is Morgan Rielly . Possibly buy our Marleau? Toronto has a very tough off season this year with a Relatively new GM. Toronto fans should be worried.

They absolutely have to be worried but that's the price of high end talent. You have a 2-3 year window to win it all!

Actually he's not. Kucherov, Mackinnon, Giroux, Kane, McD, Gaudreau, Pastarnak, Point, Drai, etc all better than him

Crosby is better than all you listed and McDavid. Ovechkin is up there as well. Matthews is good but needs to produce a lot more before being considered a top 5 player. He may never cross 100pts. Might actually cross 70 this year for the first time his career.

For the money he received it should have been an 8 year deal. This deal benefits Matthews in every way. The Leafs only bought one UFA year.

Last night was the line. Up to 2-1 in the 3rd, close playoff race and Klefbom back. A win gives you hope for the push. A blowout like that is the sign that you owe it to the next GM to clear as much cap as possible for them.
