The elite talents are taking up almost all of the cap, which squeezes out the middle and you have space for a bunch of guys that should make more but have to take $2 million or less to find employment. The key is finding the ones that will greatly outperform that.

The middle class is dying, just like in the real world

It shouldn't be surprising that the league is moving toward the NBA model of 2 stars and a bunch of lower middle role players. I really wish it wasn't the case, hopefully we don't start seeing the trend (in a decade or more) of players taking 1-2 year deals at max to win then move on to find bigger dollars in other markets.

Turd polishing will be in overdrive for the next few weeks now

He's on pace for roughly 10-15 points, which sucks for us because those points in a fLames uniform are worth 4 times the value as they were in an Oil jersey as per losing the trade rules.

So right now he has about 5.7 real world fLames points in 8 games. He'll finish with 60 fLames points which is a win for them.

Agreed. I actually think it's already starting to happen.

I don’t get why Legs is up Tipp said Manning gave quality minutes against phi why take him out one game later?

If this is to bench Benning though finally I will be so happy

Nurse Bear
Klef Russell
Manning Legs?

Of course I agree, but it appears the organization’s thought about Manning might be to just use him a game here and there if there is an emergency injury, etc. I think they would use someone else if it is a multiple game situation.

I still say he’s not as bad as 90% of the fans make him out to be. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him in the PB tonight.

Hi,

Avs fan here.
Congrats from your great start for the season !
Really nice to watch Oilers games.

Just would like to ask..
Your 1st PP has Neal, Draisaitl, Nugent, McDavid and Klefbom..

Who is in the 2nd PP?
Or are top guys playing all the power plays?

Kassian is playing in the top line, 5 on 5 game..
Is he on the 2nd PP, or who is?

Thanks !

The second unit is currently Jurco, Chiasson, Kassian, Nurse, and Bear.

For obvious reasons it almost never hits the ice.

I don't think this will happen only because there is more variance in results of hockey games than basketball. With basketball you can probably guess the final 4 teams that will be remaining in the playoffs this year with a pretty high degree of accuracy. Hockey is always a wild card.

From Tipps presser it sounds like his patience might be starting to wear with the lack of scoring from the bottom 6. I'd imagine if they don't start showing something by the 10-12 game mark we could see some guys up from Bako.
Most of the bottom 6 is filled with projects (Khaira, Nygard, Haas) or niche specialists with limited offensive ability (Sheahan, Archibald, Granlund). The problem is if you get an effective bottom 6 forward who can score 15-20 goals, he immediately goes into the 2-3M+ range (Maroon, Kassian, Chiasson). The team pressed against the cap can't afford too many of such players.

We'll be there, 1st live game since 2017. Bought the alternate jersey, just for the their inaugural debut tomorrow. I pray to the lord McJesus Drai that they win tomorrow

Prediction: 4-1 Edmonton, Koskinen lights out again
Weak Detroit team playing back-to-back. If our goalie needs to play lights out in this one to win, it is not a good sign. I am hoping similar game that they played against Rangers!

Shot in the dark. I'm guessing it's Bouchard.

Tipp probably wants a rightie.

Nurse - Bear
Klefbom - Bouchard
Russell - Benning

Klefbom has been averaging about ~15 minutes of even strength per game with Nurse/Bear doing the heavy lifting. Pretty good situation for a cup of coffee for Bouch.

edit:

Lagesson recalled.

Guessing we see him with Benning while the Russell on his off-side adventure continues.

Russell to me has played good this year. As you have mentioned, his problems start when they put him on his off-side

The jerseys are trash no matter what happens in the game.

Just another cash grab marketing gimmick.
I wish we were more like the Habs, and not **** with it.

Our jersey was perfect the way it was. Change the trim if we must, but leave the design it alone.

That's how jerseys becomes iconic.

a couple of old guys resistant to change I see...the jerseys are great IMO
and of course it's a marketing gimmick

I can't believe a different colour scheme rattles so many fans

So looks like the league won’t do **** about the Granlund play.

Spearing, slew footing, and hits from behind in that 2-3 foot danger zone by the boards are complete no no’s and taboo in hockey.

Completely garbage by Granlund and you guys know I love physical hockey and bullying other teams on the ice but not that ****. He should be in the press box now or waived.

When it comes to boarding that was barely a 4/10, 10 being Lemieux on Draper. Unless they start suspending players for literally every boarding call that doesn't even enter the realm of a suspendable play.

Just throwing this out there, but with McD and Drai getting 25min+ per game and obviously the bottom six getting much less play time that this would effect their performance. Hard to get a rhythm going if your sitting for 4 min and on for 45 sec. Think you need to play the bottom 6 more. They're not really getting scored on and it saves your best players.
