Most of the bottom 6 is filled with projects (Khaira, Nygard, Haas) or niche specialists with limited offensive ability (Sheahan, Archibald, Granlund). The problem is if you get an effective bottom 6 forward who can score 15-20 goals, he immediately goes into the 2-3M+ range (Maroon, Kassian, Chiasson). The team pressed against the cap can't afford too many of such players.

I’m not talking about trades I’m talking about trying some of our guys in Bako if the current group continues to struggle. Guys like Benson, Marody, Yamamoto, Currie, Gambardella, even guys like McLeod or Maksinov possibly. If the current group continues to not get it done there’s no harm in bringing some of these guys up and giving them a go for a few games see if someone can contribute and stick.

Age is relative and when something is right, changing it is a low percentage play #newcoke
Oilers haven't won a playoff series in their "classic" blue jersey's since 1992...27 years ago
anyone younger than 40 years old associate them with the Shane Corson-era jersey's more than the Dynasty-era

yes, they are very nice...but let's not pretend like the Oilers slightly changing their colours is a bad thing...it's been going on for a long time

a couple of old guys resistant to change I see...the jerseys are great IMO
and of course it's a marketing gimmick

I can't believe a different colour scheme rattles so many fans

I'm younger than 30 and I think the new thirds are hideous and little more than a shameless cash grab.

But I don't froth at the mouth about it, I just won't buy one.

That version of orange is infinitely better than the current regular. Both are far worse than the royal blue homes.

I like the current whites more than the previous version though.

I like the Habs and Leafs jerseys. A lot older than classic Oilers.

And yes the new/old orange clown jerseys and this new cartoon jersey are crap.

let’s not pretend this is nothing but a cash grab.

Ally-oop! McDavid scores on a brilliant flip pass from Russell!

So? Keeping Russell with Klefbom because of one play that Russell could have made playing without Klefbom is no reason to shackle Russell to Klefbom against top line competition. Was it a good play? Sure. However, Manning scored a goal last game, should he now be on the top pair? No. The logic is bad. The operative word being bad, just like that Klefbom-Russell pairing was visually and statistically for a lot of that Philly game.

I don't dislike Kris Russell and I value what he brings, but his game is not suited to the first pairing. His instincts are not puck moving instincts and his style of game isn't complementary to Klefbom's game so why put them together? Honestly, and I might gag here, but Benning might be a better option with Klefbom based on his strengths. That pair might get crushed against top competition but not likely as badly as Klefbom-Russell got caved in the last game.

What horse**** is this? We have a better record than ALL the teams above (Tied with Carolina) and we are 10th???? WTF...

It's kind of pointless to make power rankings that simply match the standings. The fact is, we've had a very easy schedule and are getting badly outshot - that might not really matter, but it's the kind of thing power rankings may factor in.

If you think it's "anti-Oilers bias", here is an impartial, algorithmic ranking that has us 13th (and Buffalo 15th): NHL Ratings Page

The good news is that power rankings have no effect on anything; it doesn't hurt the Oilers in any way to have them ranked that low. So there's no point in getting upset about it.

If we didnt bitch about the media and other fan's disrespect we'd lose about 70% of the traffic around here

It's way too early in Bakersfield and the NHL.

No one is impressed with the bottom 6 scoring but the special teams and overall play of our bottom 6 has certainly been far more good than bad.

Evaluations will happen at the 10 to 12 game mark. The bottom 6 have 3 to 5 games to at least score a couple imo. They are starting to get a few quality chances they just need to bury them.

Especially from what we saw at training camp there are no forward prospects ready for full time nhl play.

I would even call Gagner up before many of what you listed and he is terrible at the nhl level.

I think some of our success is the speed of our bottom 6 and Bakersfield has nobody fast period on it.

The 3rd and and 4th lines finally produce, Khaira with a goal and assist. The Oilers lose 5-4, top 2 lines get shut out.

Watching this team is like finding an evil Genie. He grants you a wish but there is always a catch.

Have you even looked at what they've done down there?
Maksimov doesn't have a point yet and is -3. Why on earth would you call him up to replace people that are at least providing one of the best PKs in the league right now.

The second line is looking good. Nuge and Neal and whomever work.

There is definitely secondary scoring this year.

Not much at even strength. I believe that line only has been in on 3 goals at even strength, maybe 4. I know Neal scored a goal against the Isles at even strength, the Klefbom goal against the Rangers and the Bear goal last game.
They've been pretty good visually but they need a bit more even strength production.
