ahh I didn't realize Ryan played PK!

I also forgot about Cowen coming back. Things should still look pretty good for next season then.

Might even be a little better..

Phillips actually played pretty well last year. I don't know about pairing him with Corvo though.

Neither of those guys is awful on their own, but together... that's downright scary!

ON PLAYING ZIBA AT C
Murray imagines Ryan on the left side with Jason Spezza at centre and Milan Michalek on the right wing. One day, perhaps soon, the Senators would like to see Zibanejad settle in at centre, although he has been used mostly at wing in the NHL so far.

“I will talk to (head coach) Paul (MacLean) about that, but if we could get him playing in the middle we could have a real dynamic centre for a lot of years here,” Murray said.

Interesting first line. Zibby stays at centre.

If Zibanejad plays as C, then isn't he stuck on the 3rd line? Also, Where does that leaves Pageau then?

Or, we can just have Turris and Zibby as 2a, 2b. Pageau can move to the wing. He is such a smart, versatile player that he can even play along side Spezza and Ryan.

Ryan on the left side? Isn't he a natural right winger? Duck fans have been saying that having him play on the left side has not been working out for him lately.

All his highlight goals are him coming down the left side making power moves or one-timing it from the left slots, on most occasions.

I agree with Murray. If Mika is going to develop properly, he has to play centre.
Unfortunately that doesn't leave him with much to work with in terms of skill on the wings:

Michalek-Spezza-Ryan
Conacher-Turris-MacArthur
Pageau-Zibanejad-Condra
Greening-Smith-Neil

Personally I would have Michalek with Turris, but that doesn't appear to be what Murray has in mind.

Weird...Ryan is a right winger and didn't Zibanejad play mostly at centre this year? Not sure how accurate that thing is above.

That said...

Cory Conacher - Jason Spezza - Bobby Ryan
Clarke MacArthur - Kyle Turris - Milan Michalek
Zack Smith - Mika Zibanejad - ???
Colin Greening - Jean-Gabriel Pageau - Chris Neil

Presumably, Condra would fit in your ??'s.

I say they keep Michalek with Spezza though.

Maybe they plan on moving Turris to the wing and keeping Zibanejad as a center

Ryan-Spezza-Michalek
MacArthur-Zibanejad-Turris
Conacher-Pageau-Condra
Greening-Smith-Neil

I like that, just a small massage of the bottom six.

Michalek-Spezza-Ryan
Conacher-Turris-MacArthur
Greening-Zibanejad-Pageau
Condra-Smith-Neil

And voila, Zib has some skill to play with.

Really think you can't take Wiercioch out of the lineup if he's improved at all this off season. The guy was 40th in d-man scoring while only playing 42 games. Produced almost the same as Zibanejad too.

I don't think we have the assets to land Neal, let alone let him waste away on the 4th line.

If we acquire Neal, I want to see us put him on the first line with Spezza and Ryan.

This would be my lineup for next season, I would trade whoever isn't there to upgrade a need or for picks which is more likely since we may not have enough money in future to pay our players:

Ryan - Spezza - Stone
MacArthur - Turris - Michalek
Greening - Zibanejad - Robinson (big, fast line)
Z. Smith - JOB - Neil/Kassian goes in, JOB comes out, Smith moves to centre

Methot - Karlsson
Cowen - Corvo
Phillips - Gryba/Wiercioch goes in, Phillips comes out

Anderson - Lehner

Ok, let me just put this out there as bluntly as I possibly can.

BUDDY ROBINSON IS NOT GOING TO BE ON THE THIRD LINE OF THE OTTAWA SENATORS THIS SEASON.
