Big win by NJ against a tough DET team. Hynes pushed all the right buttons with his lineup moves and got rewarded by HAYDEN. The man is a genius and NJ is fortunate to have such an innovative coach who doesn’t at all rely on the same old garbage that run of the mill NHL coaches do. I mean making sure Zacha and Bratt don’t get to play with Nico after the little bit of time they had together they looked great was exactly the right move. Putting players in position to succeed is what poor coaches do and instead you should force square pegs into round holes. We can all learn a lesson from this sort of Bellichick level work.

Sarcasm is a 7-letter word. ;)

What are you talking about? We've heard from two people: Mike Commodore, who played for Babcock, and Mark Fraser, who never played with either Babcock as coach or Commodore as teammate. Fraser is nonetheless vouching for Commodore. Most players have probably moved on with their lives and careers and don't care to weigh in one way or another - I imagine it's something like talking about teachers in high school when you've graduated college. It's in the past and it all doesn't really matter anymore.

Too bad that in Fraser's mind it still matters after such a long-ass time.

That's called "holding a grudge". o_O

Narcissistic *******s. Babcock is one of the worst kinds of human beings from what I've read. He crosses the line between motivator and outright ******* far too often.

it sounds like something michael scott’s slightly evil twin would’ve done

Wow that’s grossly inappropriate on so many levels. Why would he do this to a child? That said why didn’t Marner call an agent or parent before doing this?

That's messed up....on a grand scale. :shakehead

BTW, did I mention again that I do not want Babcock as Head Coach? ('cause I did mention it before)

Marner was 18-19? To me that’s a child.

yes, an 18-19 year old is not a child. Especially one who already living on their own and has a high paying professional job.

Don’t take this as defending Babcock. In the other thread I mention why it is a bullshit divide and conquest psychological tactic. But that has nothing to do with Marner’s age at the time.

As a parent of a 22 year old and a 19 year old I’ll disagree with you. Legally you are correct but morally this was a grown man taking advantage of the naivety of a much young person with no experience. Why do you think Babcock chose the teenager and not the team captain to make that list? So in your view misleading and humiliating a teenager of 18 is ok if it happens in the workplace?

Well also the team captain probably would have told Bab where to go with that request, while the kid thinks he's gotta do what the coach says automatically.

Apparently Marner was an adult and at 18-19 should have known that the coach he has just met and wants to impress was going to use him in a misleading passive aggressive manner to make a point with his veteran players despite that it might have destroyed the brand new player in the locker room.

Eh I was pro-Bab till this story, but this is all kinds of ****ed up. Maybe he curbed some of his more narcissistic tendencies in Detroit cause he wouldn't have been able to get away with that **** in a locker room with Lidstrom, Zett, Datsyuk, etc but in Toronto when they were trying to build a culture with younger players he probably figured he could be The Supreme Leader there and do whatever the heck he wanted.

Go see my comments on the other thread. I never once said it was appropriate. I also don’t disagree that it was Babcock taking advantage of someone with less experience.

Marner must really love it in TOR. How could he ever trust Babcock or really any TOR management after that and extend anything beyond the minimum as an RFA?

apparently he almost requested a trade after the incident.

My knee jerk reaction is to say that Ferris is an idiot but maybe he knew that Dubas was a bigger idiot.

In Ferris’s ambulance chaser agent world he probably thought this was great and he could use it as leverage in contract discussions, humiliation of his teenage client notwithstanding.

Back on topic I trust that Babcock won’t be coaching in NJ - and I believe that whatever issues Hynes has as a coach he seems like a sincere guy and he is generally good with the players on a personal level even if his handing of young players can be misguided.

Yup. In comparison to Babcock, Hynes is the Good Cop to Babcock's Crooked-Cop.

I'll take the Good Cop any day.

(but I still want another Good Cop who knows how to Coach)
