Honestly I’m pretty negative about the Jets and I picked Vegas to win in five in my pool, but with Hellebuyck in net anything is possible. Split the first two in Vegas and we’re in good shape.

Famous last words, but I’ll take playing Brossoit.

Was there really that much hype about us beating the Ducks, though? I think the hype was more about the return of the white out and the playoffs in general

The only hype I remember was the Jets 2.0 finally making the playoffs and the return of the whiteout. Nobody expected that team to win the series, maybe a game but that’s it.

6 of 9 Sportsnet NHL broadcasters picked the Jets over the Ducks, including Kypreos, Friedman, and Chris Johnston who's at TSN now. Kypreos had them losing in the Cup Final.

5 of 13 ESPN analysts picked the Jets, including Pierre Lebrun.

I can't find the TSN record of their 2015 playoff predictions but I remember it as being similar to Sportsnet.

I remember Jeff O'Neil on TSN picking the Jets to beat the Ducks and to go on and win the whole thing. There was mega-hype around the Jets' tough to play against team. Then we got swept.

However, we were a bit unlucky. That was the series where we trailed for about 3 minutes total through all four games.

Ya, could have actually won that just as easily. Just like when we swept EDM. Could have gone either way.

Bu bu but I get told the jets get no love or respect from anyone :sarcasm:

Anyway iirc the jets were one of the hottest teams to finish off that year headlined by Ondrej Pavelec playing at an otherworldly level to get them into the PO's. I didn't realize that many had picked us tbh bc Anaheim was a great, PO-tested team during those years

There is always hype in the playoffs, as should there be. This is why you play 82 games over 6 months. We ended up with the 14th best record in the NHL and deserve to be here. Yes it was a bumpy road but we had a strong last 2 weeks and there is reason to be hopeful. IMO we have more talent then our record suggests and we have one if best goalies in the league.

No, but as I found out during my short-lived yet lucrative career as a 'reverse stripper', there are decency laws at play for men of my 'stature'
Okay, there has to be an interesting story (or several) behind that. I could speculate about what a reverse stripper actually is or does but instead I'll ask for more details. Can you elaborate, please?

That would be the first 3 games. The Ducks had the lead for most of the 4th game.

The main thing I see working against us is having to start on the road every series. We were much better at home all year. We were in a position to get home ice advantage for a couple of rounds at least most of the season so that is the unfortunate part about our losing odyssey in 2023.

But the team has to do a lot of things to win either way so finding their road game is just another item to add to the list.

Some people claim there is less pressure in opening a series on the road.

If you go into their arena and win one game, it's regarded as a great start to the series.

If you open at home and don't win both games, it's called a bad start and you're in possible trouble.

The result after two games is the same, tied at 1-1. But all the sports commentators appear to think that one situation is far better. Kind of strange?

It really shows what a fine line separates first place from eighth place. Granted, a lot of our statistical success was pumped in during the first four months of the season, but as everyone is fond of saying the playoffs are a whole new season. And we're starting over almost even!

Pavelec had 3 straight shutouts to end the year, yeah. Then played a decent game 1 until he gave up the eventual winner with his pad in his own net. Then a decent game 2 until he gave up the winner in the final minute.

I’m honestly worried about how our 2nd line with Names-Wheeler will shape up in the playoffs. Wonder if Bones reconsiders moving Scheif back, and maybe getting Connor/Dubois/Ehlers back together.

i remember that stl game he came in relief for hutch. saved 19/20, with the GA being a shot from center ice. from that point on he went 9-3-1 with a 950 sv% with 4 SOs lol.

i was surprised on how infrequent they've put Connor-Dubois-Ehlers together, especially when the team was struggling to score in the 2nd half.

Ehlers & Wheeler have been clicking well though. i think Namestnikov can be a top-6er in spurts, but long-term he def isn't a viable option there. i think they'll keep on riding the current wave as it has been clicking

and that's not to mention how Nino has elevated that third line too.
