He hasn't looked his usual self thats for sure. Still playing better than most forwards on the team but not as freely as he normally would. Whatevers nagging him I hope its just a time thing and not a 'oi he needs surgery' thing.

I'm starting to think that having to carry that slug Crosby during the World Cup has ( hopefully only temporarily ) taken it's toll on Patrice.

Bergeron is still a good player despite the disappointing start. He can be the best 3rd line center in the NHL and skate with plugs if he isn't going to score with 2 elite wingers on his line.

Just common sense.

Sorry but his lack of scoring is a problem.

In the Sweeney thread, you first said that Bergeron needed to be 'woken' up, and then when questioned on it, you said the above.

So let me ask you: what makes you think that Bergeron isn't awake? Why would demoting him help get him started? I agree that his poor start is hurting the team but to suggest that he needs to be given a 'wake up' call isn't something I agree with. It seems to be the exact opposite of the common sense you are talking about.

Bergeron is Bergeron. Even at his worst in a bad slump carrying whatever ailment he still the best third line center you can hope for.

The fact that there is ZERO chance of this happening (like playing Jagr with Krejci was never going to happen thanks to Horton and Lucic) is what I am ranting about.

I like Bergeron too people are acting like I kicked there dog because I dared say something like I want him to wake up and not be on pace to finish the year with 25-30 points.

I would healthy scratch Krug to send a message to him that we need offense. Bergeron I'd just take off the line with Pasternak and Marchand for a few games.

i think you approach krug like a kindly father... tell him he had success in the past... was paid because he has value... tell him theres no shame in not being a 3-4 dman... tell him we want to work together... to get success

tell him not to view playing 3rd pair as a demotion... its about team success... being a useful part of the team...

if he still struggles after being put back in 3rd pair you can bench him... but right now hes struggling because hes not good enough. no amount of benchings will ever make him good enough

we overpaid a 3rd pair pp specialist. we now need to get what we actually had all along... a 3rd pair pp specialist

I think for lines with Bergeron/krecji struggling... id take a flyer on

pastranak/spooner/belesky... belesky has been showing life.. pastranak has been our best forward... see if we can build some value in spooner

czarik/backes/moore bit of an odd match maybe but see if backes responds to a move back to center

Bergeron/krecji/marchand... marchand might score more if moved off the line with pastranak

arccidi/nash/schaller... get hayes out of the lineup... message needs to be sent

Again: you think he needs to be "woken up"? Is his effort not there? Is he not trying, is he sleep walking through the season? There are definitely cases of players needing to be demoted or scratched in order to find their game (notable examples would include Krejci, Lucic & Marchand in recent years, and Beleskey earlier this month).

But I am struggling to agree that Bergeron is going through the motions or lacking effort. You've directly said more than once that he needs to be "woken up" so you evidently think it's a lack of effort. I just can't for the life of me agree with that.

You say you want him to improve offensively and your answer is to put him with offensive anchors. And then have the audacity to say things like "it's common sense". Umm, what?

(And as an aside: I'm hardly one that will be upset that you dared say something bad about Bergeron. I am one of the ones that thinks the Saint Patrice, He Who Can Do No Wrong, phenomenon is in place with too many B's fans. The guy is fallible, like all players are. But right now, this season, I can't agree that he's not trying or that he needs a "wake up call".)

It's been such a bizarre season for him so far. I feel like he's still passing the eye test with flying colors, and his underlying defensive numbers are through the roof again, but he's just straight up not factoring in production-wise, which is odd considering Marchand and Pastrnak are and Bergeron is getting offensive zone starts like he never has before.

How can Bergeron went from dominating in the WC to producing like a 4th liner even if he's playing with two of the most productive wingers in the game? No doubt he's playing injured. Only explanation.

The day he starts to produce like the Bergy we know, the wins will pile up again. Eight players have more points. He's tied with Chara. Time to wake up Patrice.

Agreed. Even our golden child needs to step it up.

He's still got similar amounts of shots as last year but his shooting percentage is a woeful 4.6%,hopefully it's just that, though his assists are way down also. Maybe Pastrnak is taking assists away with self creativity.

People were crapping on Crosby last year. Took him half the season to get going. Patrice will be fine. It's the second, third and fourth lines we should be worried about.

Goals and points will come, I'm not worried about that.

If he was struggling on the faceoff and not playing great defensively, to go along with the low point totals...then I'd worried.

Its only December people ;)

Please don't be like that fool on the main board a few years back who claimed Bergeron was washed up around game #10. That was the year he scored 30+, led the league in FO%, and won the Selke. That idiot was picking crow out of his teeth for weeks.

I subscribe to the "he must have a nagging injury" camp. However, statiistically speaking:

I know he will. Good thing the Bruins are 13-10-1 with him producing like a 4th liner. Can only go up when he starts producing again like the Patrice we know when he's finally healthy! The sooner the better!

Someone posted in the injury thread that Bergy didn't practice today, so he probably does have something going on that is not enough to sideline him but keeps him from being his best on the offensive side. If that is case, I'd prefer he sat out for a few games or whatever it takes to get healthy rather than struggle on not quite fit but feeling "good enough."

guaranteed bergy is playing hurt. Have watched him for years and it's his skating stride which is lacking. It could possibly be a groin problem or sports hernia type of thing that is there which is allowing him to play but not at 100%. His acceleration with his skating
just isn't what I have seen in season past, even at the world cup he was much faster; probably suffered the injury near the end of the world cup play.

maybe it's a high ankle sprain ala Looch a few years ago. That would explain why there's no point in letting him sit...because it just takes time whether you play or not.

He's still on track with the same amount of shots as last year,so he's in position, maybe with reduced leverage?
