It would be funny, the problem is adding Panarin to this roster doesn't make it a playoff team.

They need to go big-game hunting on D, not at forward.

I agree ...but outside of Karlsson, not many D out there that will make a major difference on D.
Ellis, Stralman, and Schmidt would improve it, but make it a playoff team? I doubt it. Plus, they have to want to come here.

Karlsson is gonna cost you 11-12. Would obviously love him, just don't think it's doable.

If you could somehow add both Stralman and Schmidt for roughly the same price as Panarin would cost you (9-10), I think that helps the team more honestly. I just don't know if that's feasible.

I'm a big Schmidt fan though. Maybe too big.

If we could sign him in UFA for under $9m, we could have one hell of a lineup. Probably mean having to trade Murphy, letting Rutta walk, and having to get Schmaltz to agree to 6m a year (which is probably around what he'd go for). Defense would have some question marks, but damn does that lineup look good.

Saad Toews Kane
DeBrincat Schmaltz Sikura
Panarin Anisimov Shalunov/Kahun
Ejdsell Kampf Hayden

Keith Jokiharju
Forsling Boqvist
Manning Seabrook/Mitchell

Crow
Delia/Lankinen

The key to even having a chance for Artemi is the young d maturing. If Joker, Mitchell and third d man can make the team in the two years in could be possible. If that doesn’t happen they can’t afford him.

Murphy, Anisimov traded, Manning & Gus buried, Forsling signs cheap bridge and plays as a bonafide top 4, Jokiharju plays like a legit top 4. Seabrook rebounds to a solid #4 after losing weight and improving speed.

2019-20
Panarin - Toews - Kane
Saad - Schmaltz - Debrincat
Kahun - Edjsell - Sikura
Highmore/UFA - Kruger/Kampf - Hayden

Keith - Jokiharju
Forsling - Seabrook
Hillman/UFA - Rutta

Crawford
Delia/UFA

Please. This would make our forward group insane next year and I think Mitchell and Joki can make good contributions next year

anyone else find it odd how much info is being said about Panarin publicly? I can't recall the last time I heard this much "noise" from a player under contract to another team about places he would like to go...this just seems crazy and Blue Jackets have to be livid here.

Panarin wants out. Rather than being livid the CBJ brass should just trade him before the season starts. Imagine how crazy the circus will be once Torts starts fielding endless questions about him.

There is really no one anywhere near Panarin in talent on that team. He led the team in scoring by 25 points for f***s sake. And it is Columbus after all.

Would be pretty funny if after this season Panarin did come back and we could ice both him and Saad on the same roster.

Only hope good guy Kane talks him him down from an absurdly high asking price if he is interested in coming home.

The trade would end up being Panarin, Saad, AA, Forsberg for Motte and Paliotta.

That's me in the corner
I mean the Hawks HAVE to keep the money open for him, right?

Right now, I think the team already has the money free for Schmaltz and DeBrincat deals, then you have a few years before needing to worry about Joki and Boqvist.

Just move Anisimov and you should have enough left over to handle a Panarin deal without losing Schmaltz or DeBrincat

If Boqvist ends up being a stud and needing a huge deal in 4-5 years, you have plenty of time to figure out a way to make him fit. Hopefully you have a top pair D on an entry level deal for 3 years before that though, and that’s what allows you to get Panarin

I'd make a run at Ellis if he wants to test free agency though I feel like he'll re-sign
