2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points in 14 games and only 2 goals in a string of over 30 games is terrible any way you look at it and especially bad considering this guy is making $6.25 M this season. This guy hasn't even been out of the Jets top 6 all season and his numbers stink!

He was on the fourth line with Roslovic .

He's scoring at a much better rate than Wheeler at ES. He's just not getting PP1 points. And if you think there's been anything wrong with his game in the last while you need to stop drinking when ya watch the games ;)

Do you think the Jets are getting good value for Ehlers right now?

they extended him after a great 64 point campaign and he followed it up after signing with a 60 pt season. You cant see into the future that the player may have a slump, you cant adjust what you are paying for him. Overall his contract based on his performance and age and at the time was a fair contract to keep him long term in Winnipeg. He will turn it around, you rarely see a player score two consecutive seasons of 60 or more points and then fall of a cliff.

The Jets aren't getting good value for any forward 5v5 right now. Trouba is tied for the team lead in non pp scoring.

Scheifele has 7 ES points, Wheeler has 6. They both play more per game than Ehlers, and have worse posession numbers, but here you are focusing on Ehlers. Ehlers also has a much worse PDO than either of them.

Is Ehlers supposed to be the best player on our team?

Would be nice if Ehlers and Laine were our best players. Let young core rise now kinda thing. But ya agree with your post no one has been good why pick on Ehlers sentiment is right.

Almost equivalent to what T.O. is getting out of WNylander! WN=0-pts for 0-$pay/ NE=minimal pts for $$$$Lots of pay! Actually T.O. is fairing better, pure value-wise. Yikes!! Why is T.O. even being mentioned? Sorry!!!

Maybe T.O. can and we "straight-up/ 1-for-1" offer Ehlers for William Nylander? Any thoughts out there?

Definitely not - IMO Ehlers is slightly better, and the whole purpose of this holdout is that Nylander wants more money than that. Ehlers' contract is going to be great in a couple years.

It is never best if your 2 top players are wingers, no matter how good they are. Ideally you have a Defenseman and Center and I think we have that covered. Both Ehlers and Laine will be fine IMO. The vast majority of offensive players are streaky. Laine will have dips and go on long runs of scoring and Ehlers has the speed that can change the flow of the game. As they approach their primes Laine will have multiple 50+ goal seasons and Ehlers will likely spend his career as a 70-80 point player that can push the play forward like few others. At some point he will start thinking as fast as his feet move and he will become a force. These kids will be okay, all we need is a little patience. At the same age as Laine Scheifele was a 34 point rookie, and in Ehlers case at the same age Scheifele was on the verge of his breakout season after a very slow start.

Really its the best if your best player is your goalie as a Venzina winning goalie. After all, lots of teams that weren't good made it really far with just amazing goaltending. So who is that D-man who is our top player are we referring to Buff, Trouba or Morrissey. Either way, Maurice should be transitioning the team to Mo's if he is willing to commit long term and be giving him 1st powerplay minutes. After all, how many more years can Buff give us at an All-star level?

Bumping this because I've been loving Ehlers' game lately. In addition to carrying the puck and making plays, he's been really aggressive and hard on pucks. No more fly-by stick waving... he's engaging hard on defense and turning into a PITA to play against.

Listening to him talk in the post-game interviews here:

He talks about working hard and getting on their D. I think he's successfully adding some physicality to his game.

Ehlers gets the happy honker award for that Blues game. He didn't shrink when the game got physical. Never has. He took some undeserved heat last playoffs when some trotted out the old "too soft for playoff hockey" line.
Lol, how many here remember that reference?!

Yes, because Scheifele and Wheeler aren't getting stuck in their own zone and they are generating plenty of offense. Once Scheifele and Wheeler find their hands again that line is going to start scoring a bunch, like they have in the past.

We’ll agree to disagree, Ehlers isn’t putting up points 5v5 and neither are Wheeler and Schief anymore than they did with Connor and probably less. Give Roslo a shot with Wheeler and Schief already, Ehlers equal point total to third line Tanev isn’t anything to write home about!

Comparing Ehlers play to Tanev's is exactly where you're going wrong Sip.

Simply pointing out first and second line Ehlers has the same number of points as a third line slug, not a compliment to Ehlers!

Shesh you'd think a player who has put up back to back 60 plus point seasons would get a bit more respect. Many teams would kill for a player of his ilk. He has had a slow start from a production stand point but I expect he will be back up over 60 again by the end of the year.

Yep he looks like a 60 point guy as is Little. Laine and Connor are looking like 80 + point guys and we live in a cap world.
Would love to keep everyone. Would love to do everything to keep best of.
