Yep. I like that deal for Vancouver.
Not a fan of the Bruins top 9 in terms of physicality. But hey, they seem to clearly have a different vision than me.

I get that, but not really in a top 9 role. They got Brett Richie who may make the team, possibly....

Ferland can shoot, he can run you through the boards and will drop the gloves. What once was Bruins hockey is reserved for the more passive player, I guess.
He may be worth that contract his year, but years 2-3-4 I am not interested in finding out.So a 27 year old who just averaged 18-18-36 and 177 hits the past 3 seasons isn't worth 3.5 per over four seasons? In today's NHL?
Beleskey had one fluke year, they took a chance and lost, it happens...so now every forward that hits and can score 15-18 goals is a Beleskey?
I don't care they didn't sign him, but the contract was a good one for IMO a good player. Vancouver did well.
Probably would have been on Krejcis wing instead of the revolving door of undersized providence dudes. He was a real threat during the playoffs.
I don't think it's a bad comparable. There are a lot of physical guys in the league besides Beleskey that have gotten worse as they start to approach 30. Ferland was always going to be a risk to do the same and I think the amount that he signed for is further proof that a lot of teams think the same way. Ferland has had a total of 8 injuries since 2017 - mostly minor, but those miles start to add up.Ferland was thought to get 5/25 by many here or that was the perceived price.
If Sweeney signs him to 4/14...what a genius, waited out the market and got a very good piece for the third line.
Signs somewhere else for 4/14. He's another Beleskey
f*** Justin Williams. There is really only 3 UFAs left that have any interest to me.
Justin Williams. But not more than a one year deal for him.
Brian Boyle. If Coyle moves up to wing on top 2 lines I think he’d be a perfect veteran add to 3rd line. Tough. Defensively responsible. Can score. Play wing or center. Not more than a 1 year deal there too.
Ryan Dzingel. Only guy I’d go more than a year for. Numbers have gone up every year he has been in the league. Can play all 3 forward spots if need be. Is 27. At most a 4 year deal would end at 31. Sweet spot of his career.
Couldn’t tell over the internet.I know, was being sarcastic....
If we wanted a guy to get 1 point in the playoffs while hitting I'm pretty sure we can pay someone 1 mil to do that instead of 3.5.Probably would have been on Krejcis wing instead of the revolving door of undersized providence dudes.
Unless they start to develop some power-forwards (how long will that take?) they can sign them or trade for them. I rather not give up assets and pay - but thats just me.
Also, just because Ferland didn't do much for Carolina in the playoffs, doesn't mean he couldn't be a good fit here. He may have been injured also - don't know.
I'm fine with Sweeney not giving out anymore bad F/A contracts, but Johansson and Ferland deals don't look crazy to me...
Looks like Habs are pushing hard to acquire Nikita Gusev.
Gusev looking for a 2 year deal with an AAV of $4 million

I am against late 20's power forwards as free agent signings. We traded Lucic and the rationale was "Power Forwards decline faster". It was 100% correct, but then the Bruins tried to get what they lost in the forms of Beleskey and Backes and it failed. I was 100% against those signings before they even happened.
I actually want the Bruins to try and draft and develop this type of talent rather than sign it or find it in the trade market. GM's overvalue 'grit' and 'toughness' and they usually overpay big time in free agency or in the trade market.
Well, crap. I was hoping that Boston would go after him.
I don't want to be in MTL position or any other team in their position.
Although Mtl will tell you they have a good future with poehling , Caufield, Suzuki ,kotkeniemi, etc... I can't see them winning a cup for a very long time however Boston imo
Needs a stronger offensive corps and basically sitting on what we have isn't assuring to most fans

If seny pops 20 goals this year and Ritchie pots 15 were in good shape. It's doable not totally out of the question.
