ferland got less than I thought... it happens occasionally. at least half the time someone gets less than I thought they never end up earning it. there might be something behind the scenes we arent privy to with ferland

the ferland signing sort of slams a door in jake virtanens face though. I wonder if he ends up in play?

I don't have Heinen in my top 6, Although he has shown he can play up there if he needs to. I would prefer him on the third line. I don't want Ferland there either, I don't think he is a top 6 player.
he played with Backlund & Gaudreau in Calgary from what I understand.

First one was an RFA so his deal should be less, second if Heinen goes out and provides Ferlands physical game, which includes hitting, and playing with something resembling intensity, maybe falls into a scrum by stepping on a stick, stands up for a teammate, intimidates a defenseman with a bone jarring hit, makes himself visible and not "quietly effective" then GM of the year wont look as ineffective and this deal won't be as bad as it is now.

Chances of this happening are zero. Heinen will go out, play his nice, quiet, inoffensive, defensive game, put up 10-12 goals and 20 or so assists for 30-35 points and on most night most fans won't notice him. The Heinen Army will come on and say how great he was winning a puck battle on the boards and his one take away and is well worth his money, when he gets an assist we will hear what a great deal it is, if he has a goal and an assist in the same game they will tell us how he is underpaid.

Meanwhile Ferland in Vancouver will score 18-20 goals with comparable assists, lead his team in hits, stand up for teammates, drop his gloves, lay out some bone jarring hits and probably be made an assistant captain. None of this will matter to the Heinen Army who do not value those assets as much as Heinen's quietly effective game and will say he has the potential to score 60-70 points and should be on the top line with two of the best players in the league because he played there for a few games last year.

I meanwhile will sacrifice 28 years of sobriety reading about the great Heinen is now the most underrated player in the league and how he is quietly tough and vital to team success.

This is where you lose people though.

Heinen career averages per 82 games:

Goals: 13.7
Assists: 27.3
Points: 41.0

Ferland career averages per 82 games:

Goals: 15.1
Assists: 17.8
Points: 32.9

Yet you say Heinen is going to be 30-35 points per season and ferlands going to be 36-40.

Yes ferlands hits more, but heinen averages more blocked shots and takeaways per 82 games and averages less giveaways 82 games.

So Heinen averages more points, more blocked shots, more takeaways and less giveaways while getting paid 700k less per year.

Imagine what heinens numbers would have been if he didn’t have to play with backes/jfk/frederic as his center and donato/bjork/Nordstrom as his other wing from October-February and he got to play a full season with the top line like ferland did.

Heinen had 21 points in the last 27 games of the season starting when Pastrnak went down in early February. If he wasn’t stuck with AHL players for the first 50 games of his season can’t even imagine what his stats would have been.

So we could have had Mojo and Ferland for exactly what Moore Miller and Heinens cap hits are. 7th and 8th d who will both begin the year on LTIR and the worst or most disappointing forward in the playoffs.

Danton Heinen - Fantasy Hockey Game Logs, Advanced Stats and more - Frozen Tools

Look at the difference in linemates heinen had compared to ferland. Unreal.

Ferland had Aho and terravainen stuck to his hip nearly all year.
One thing about Claude that sometimes I liked and sometimes I hated was how much he stuck with line combos. I’d like to see Cassidy put Heinen with Bergeron and Marchand in camp and keep them together all year. Same with Debrusk-Krejci-Pastrnak. Let the top 6 build chemistry.

I'd much rather see the Bruins get another top six forward and Move Heinen to the third line.

I’m honestly torn between heinen playing on the first line RW and having him play 3rd line LW (his natural shooting side). I want to see what he can do in his natural shooting position rather than his off wing.

Also am very intrigued to potentially have a line of

Heinen-coyle-studnicka

But honestly I’m comfortable putting Heinen anywhere as long as he has actual nhl talent around him and not backes or a bunch of AHL players who aren’t ready yet.

he put up 8 points in a 24 game playoff run with Coyle & Johansson firing on all cylinders and all 3 guys healthy.

I seriously don't get why Heinen gets the full "but his linemates!" treatment but those same people will look for any excuse to discredit a guy like Ferland.

No. It's more he needs top 6 talent to drag him up. He is significantly worse when not playing with them and doesn't make them better.
how is that different from Heinen who likely would have finished the year with 20-something points if not for the month he spent with Bergeron & Marchand?

For me it’s because I think if Heinen is kept in that situation he can put up 50-60 points. He scored 48 as a rookie with Backes and Riley f***ing Nash lol. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Heinen. Ferland has put up around 40 points mostly playing with top line centers. Ferland is what he is most likely.

Ferlands stats crater when he doesn't have top end talent to carry him, Heinen does not. They do go down some, as would be expected, but not as severely as Ferland. Lines also do better without Ferland on them.

Aho with Ferland: 54.7% SCF, 54.9% HDCF, 57.4% CF, 59.4% FF
Aho without Ferland: 55.5% SCF, 54.14% HDCF, 56% CF, 56% FF
Ferland without Aho, 47% SCF, 47.4 HDCF, 50.5% CF, 49.6% FF

Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland : 52.6% SCF, 53.5% HDCF, 53.8% CF, 52.2% FF
Gaudreau-Monahan no Ferland: 60.6% SCF, 60.2% HDCF, 59.5% CF, 58.6% FF
Ferland without them: 47.2% SCF, 54.4% HDCF, 48.8% CF, 50.4% FF

That isn't making someone better. That's getting drug along by a superior player.

Marchand-Begeron-Heinen (200 min~): 53.8% SCF, 49.25% HDCF, 54.67% CF, 56.79% FF, 73.3% GF
Heinen without them (711 min~): 52.3% SCF, 53.5% HDCF, 52.5% CF, 52.3% FF, 63.2% GF

Well, crap. I was hoping that Boston would go after him.

Years ago I was dreaming of Panarin years ago, now it's Gusev time for me as well.

By far the mist potential to be a impact player(realistic) on the market.

The top 6 lacks skill.
