Bolts Trade Vincent Lecavalier to Habs in shocking trade!

02092031-jpg_005825.jpg

The Bolts got 22 Year Old Defenceman, Ryan Pulock and a 2nd Round Pick in this years Draft for Vinny.

It wasn't as shocking as many thought but Vinny has played close to 1,400 games with the Lightning and has played his whole career with them. This trade went down becuase the Lightning have been struggling all year, fighting to stay at .500 and felt we couldn't make the playoffs at the current rate we were at. In what could by Vinny's last year we wanted him to try and go to a contender in Montreal. The trade broke down as so:

:habs

Vincent Lecavalier (36 Years Old, 2nd Line Center, 85 Overall)

:bolts

Ryan Pulock (22 Years Old, Minor Leaguer, 4 1/2 Stars)
Montreal's 2017 2nd Round Pick

Vincent had 1 year left on his deal. He was making over $7,700,000 a year with his current contrat. Although he probably wouldn't be asking for as much next year if he doesn't retire, we felt we wanted to turn a new page on his Lightning franchise.

We brought Ryan in as he could always jump up alot with his potential but the reason we got such a decent return is Ryan hasn't been progressing as hoped and has been struggling in the AHL. Here's to hoping a new page turned in his career can go in the right path. The 2nd was just an added bonus. No disvalueing Vinny though. It wont be a hard setting for him to go into as he speaks French and is a Competitive athlete coached by a competitive team. Best of luck in Montreal, Vinny! Go win your 3rd Cup!

With that added 2nd round pick we have loaded up on Draft Picks for this year (2017). They're listed below:

New Jersey Devils 1st Round Pick
New York Rangers 1st Round Pick
Our Own 1st Round Pick
Carolina Hurricanes 2nd Round Pick
Montreal Canadiens 2nd Round Pick
Our Own 2nd Round Pick
Our Own 3rd Round Pick
New York Rangers 3rd Round Pick
Our Own 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th

*(In honor of Vinny noone will take over the Captaincy this season. Steven Stamkos, Jake Gardiner and Victor Hedman will wear the 'A's.)*

*(The Habs played Vinny in the Minors. I'm sorry Vinny. :()*

Lightning finish off disappointing season, will have 2 set top 10 picks!

2013-03-25T020351Z_1059009004_GM1E93P0RVU01_RTRMADP_3_NHL.JPG

Steven Stamkos dissapointed his team didn't make the Playoffs. Still had a good year, finishing with 77 points, 36 goals.

It was a disappointing year. We should've atleast made the Playoffs. Coming off of a 3rd Round Exit last year to this is indeed disappointing. We finished with a record of 40-38-4, 84 points. Not horrendous but not "Tampa Bay Lightning caliber" either.

Some positives were that Oscar Dansk had a good year and finished 3rd in wins with 35, he did play a majority of the games but played good. Steven Stamkos also tied with Malkin, Crosby and Ovechkin in goals, with 36.

The Team stats can be somewhat indicative of this season:

Team Stats

Goals for per game - 6th, 2.79
Goals against per game - 21st, 2.77
Powerplay % - 6th, 18.9%
Penalty kill % - 14th, 83.6%

We were good at home, bad on the road. The last few years, when we've made the playoffs we were in or close to the top 10 in all those categories so again, indicative.

* - Rookie

Forward Stats

Steven Stamkos - 36 goals, 41 assists, 77 points
Patrick Kane - 25 goals, 51 assists, 76 points
Nikita Kucherov - 22 goals, 42 assists, 64 points
Jack Connolly - 21 goals, 42 assists, 63 points
Richard Panik - 19 goals, 21 assists, 40 points
Brett Connolly - 12 goals, 23 assists, 35 points

Dana Tyrell - 11 goals, 19 points, 30 points
Dennis Rasmussen - 13 goals, 9 assists, 22 points
Jay McClement - 8 goals, 10 assists, 18 points
Tyler Johnson - 8 goals, 8 assists, 16 points
Troy Brouwer - 3 goals, 7 assists, 10 points
Logan Nelson (18GP) - 2 goals, 5 points, 7 points

Defence Stats

Jake Gardiner - 9 goals, 22 assists, 31 points
Matt Carle - 7 goals, 21 assists, 28 points
Victor Hedman 6 goals, 20 assists, 26 points
Mark Barberio - 3 goals, 18 assists, 25 points
Keith Aulie - 1 goal, 13 assists, 14 points
Andrej Sustr - 3 goals, 4 assists, 7 points

Goaltender Stats

Oscar Dansk - 64GP - 35-28-0, 2.55 GAA, .916 SV%, 9 Shutouts
Petr Mrazek - 22GP - 5-10-4, 2.56 GAA, .912 SV%, 2 Shutouts

New Jersey finished 29th in the League and we have there 1st Round Pick so we will see how that shakes out, with the Draft Lottery. And we have our's, which is set as the 9th but could change. It'll be an interesting off-season, some re-signings to do, some decisions to make on our roster for the future and we have to name a new captain! Off-Season next!

Panthers Sold; Franchise Relocated to Halifax

Fans rallied outside Bank Atlantic Center in a display of adoration for their team, but it was too little too late.

Due to inexplicable bankruptcy, poor fan support, and disappointing performance year after year, Sunrise’s NHL team, the Florida Panthers, have been sold and relocated north of the border to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

“We’re really very unhappy about this whole situation,†said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman in a statement released late this afternoon. “We really were hoping to make things work in Florida. We can see very clearly that there is support for those teams in the Sun Belt regions. But for whatever reason, it wasn’t working in Sunrise. We had no choice but to approve the sale, in spite of the relocation proposition.â€

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly followed up by saying, “A lot of people have been wondering why the league couldn’t support the Panthers similar to how it is supporting the Phoenix Coyotes. To be clear, it is strictly a monetary maneuver, and being forced to support two hockey franchises would become a severe disadvantage not only to the league but to all the other teams as well. It is disappointing.â€
The Panthers organization was purchased by Rutter Inc., a technology firm based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, for an estimated $175 million. Spokesperson and recently-appointed GM Dan Brown spoke to the media following the sale.

“We are very excited for the opportunity to grow a hockey franchise in a setting where it will be appreciated and adored. With respect to Sunrise, we felt that when we purchased the team, it was best to get a fresh start, to wipe the slate clean, so to speak. We have brought on several very good hockey minds to help us with the transition, and we plan to compete for the Stanley Cup immediately.â€

Due to relocation, the NHL has been forced to make some changes to the alignment of teams within their respective divisions. Because of this, the new divisions are as such:

NE Division: Halifax, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg
Atlantic Division: Rangers, Islanders, New Jersey, Boston, Buffalo
SE Division: Washington, Carolina, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia

(Author's Note: I wasn't able to do anything about the farm teams so those are going to be mixed up... kinda sucks but not much I can do about it. For the record, I took over Boston's farm team)

NHL's Newest Franchise Announces Inaugural Press Conference

Halifax Eagles
Owner: Rutter Inc.
General Manager: Dan Brown
Assistant GM: Paul Reinhart
Head Coach: Mike Haviland
Assistant Coaches: Chris Gratton, Ryan McGill

The club announced its new name for the first time today, christening the team the Halifax Eagles, as well as introducing the coaching staff to the public.

“As a businessman first and a hockey mind second,†started GM Dan Brown, “we – I – felt it prudent to hire an assistant to help with the hockey operations within the organization. I am very pleased to introduce Paul Reinhart as the assistant General Manager of the Halifax Eagles.â€

Reinhart is a former NHL defenseman, playing from 1979-1989 with the Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks.

Then Reinhart spoke: “It excites me to get this opportunity with an up and coming hockey club. It’s a dream come true. I would now like to introduce the coaching staff: head coach Mike Haviland, and his assistants Chris Gratton and Ryan McGill.â€

Haviland spent four seasons, from 2008 to 2012, as an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks, and helped them win the Stanley Cup in 2010. He also spent time as a head coach with the Norfolk Admirals and the Rockford Ice Hogs of the AHL.

Gratton is a former NHL forward. He played from 1993 to 2009, sharing time with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres, Phoenix Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, and Columbus Blue Jackets.

McGill, an NHL defenseman from 1991 to 1995, split time with the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Edmonton Oilers before retiring due to an eye injury. He quickly parlayed that into an opportunity to become a hockey coach for the WHL’s Kootenay Ice. He graduated to the AHL in 2002, and in 2009, was named an assistant coach of the Calgary Flames.

Well, Pooky was done with the playoff roster, but not with trading. He sent quality defensive prospects Tyler Wotherspoon, Mark Cundari, and James Martin to Los Angeles for the Kings' first round pick in the draft. AHL players D Jeff Woywitka, C Nikolay Prokhorkin, and C Brady Murray will go to Abbotsford.

@CruickshankCH

Don't look now, but the Flames have shot up to 8th in the NHL (6th in the Western Conference, 3rd in the Northwest Division) with 20 games remaining on their schedule.

FLAMES MAKE MINOR DEALS AT TRADE DEADLINE

March 5, 2013

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Flames made only a few minor details at today's trade deadline, sending some of their surplus of minor league forwards away for mid-round draft picks.

Around the league, Detroit, Minnesota, and Chicago all loaded up for the stretch run. Detroit added veteran winger Shane Doan in exchange for their first round pick and Willie Coetzee. Minnesota acquired defenseman Mattias Ohlund, who had been the subject of Flames rumors, in exchange for Tyler Cuma. Chicago acquired winger Jason Zucker from Minnesota in exchange for defenseman Shawn Lalonde.

Eagles Make Handful of Deals Ahead of Season Opener

The Halifax Eagles have not been shy about making deals in their first few days as a franchise. With just 5 days remaining until the start of the season, the Eagles have executed a number of trades.

To Detroit:
D Ed Jovanovski

To Halifax:
D Jonathan Ericsson

Jovanovski had apparently approached management to respectfully request a trade - either to an immediate playoff contender, or to the state of Florida to be with his family. After attempting, and failing, to work out a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Eagles received an offer from the DEtroit Red Wings and a deal was executed in a matter of hours.

To Los Angeles:
LW Scottie Upshall
LW Chris Bourque

To Halifax:
LW Dwight King
C Nikolay Prokhorkin

When the Kings came calling for an upgrade to their bottom six, the Eagles were able to offer Upshall as long as a prospect of some sort were coming back in the deal. The Kings were reluctant to relinquish players of much value, so the teams agreed to do a swap of players and prospects.

The Eagles also signed free agents LW Max Friberg and C Jack Connolly to separate 2-year AHL contracts.

Historic Day in Lightning History! 3 Top 10 Picks!

This years draft was held in Toronto, Ontario, at the Air Canada Centre. Luckily for us the New York Rangers was on the Draft Lottery moved up to #1, and we had there pick so we could pick #1 Overall. GM JaredCowenFan walked up to the podium and said "I'd like to thank the City or Toronto and the staff here at the Air Canada Centre for the hospitality. And we'd also like to Congratulate, are rivals, the Florida Panthers on the Stanley Cup Victory." He then went onto to select #1 Overall. "We're very happy to select 1st Overall, from the Edmonton Oil Kings, Forward Curtis Bannister! The Lighting also held New Jersey's pick, but becuase of New York winning the lottery New Jersey's pick was slid back to #4, so the Lightning we going to select #4 but before the pick was selected, Gary Bettmen, the commissioner came up to the podium and said "We have a trade to announce. The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded New Jersey's 4th Overall Pick (4th Overall), Montreal's 2nd Round Pick (51st Overall) and Tampa's 6th and 7th picks (158th, 189th) to the Philadelphia Flyers for there 1st Round Pick (2nd Overall)!" The crowd erupted and boo'ed all at the same time, in shock at what went down. GM JaredCowenFan then made a walk back to the Podium and said "Hello again. With the 2nd Overall pick, from the Moose Jaw Warriors, Forward Bryan Booth!" The TSN Analysts and everyone in attendance never saw this coming. This was a turning point in the history of the Tampa Bay Lightning. They also selected 9th Overall and a couple more times in the 2nd and 3rd after that. All the Pick and Trade Details are below:

:flyers

New Jersey's 1st Round Pick (4th Overall)
Montreal's 2nd Round Pick (51st Overall)
Tampa's 6th Round Pick (159th Overall)
Tampa's 7th Round Pick (189th Overall)

:bolts

Philadelphia's 1st Round Pick (2nd Overall)

1st Round Pick - 1st Overall - Curtis Bannister - Forward - 4 1/2 Stars (74 Overall)
1st Round Pick - 2nd Overall - Bryan Booth - Forward - 4 1/2 Stars (67 Overall)
1st Round Pick - 9th Overall - Kirk Erskine - Forward - 3 1/2 Stars
2nd Round Pick - 39th Overall - Andy Roe - Defenceman - 3 1/2 Stars
2nd Round Pick - 56th Overall - Miikka Immonen - Forward - 3 1/2 Stars
3rd Round Pick - 65th Overall - Brent Mackay - Goaltender - 3 1/2 Stars
3rd Round Pick - 69th Overall - Viacheslav Moroza - Defenceman - 3 1/2 Stars

Curtis is a Center and already has a 70 for Faceoffs. He is a gem. Bryan is a LW'er, great little Sniper. Curits is a playmaker by the way. We're VERY happy with all our picks. We felt we got some quality players and kids. Updated progress on them will come. Onto the Signings now. We have $30,000,000 to work with so let's try and improve as much as we can:

Re-Signings

Jay McClement - 1 Year - $7,500,00
Joonas Valkonen - 1 Year - $1,100,000
Oscar Dansk - 2 Years - $1,250,000
Vladimir Namestikov - 3 Years - $1,800,000
Dana Tyrell - 2 Years - $2,400,000
Jack Connolly - 3 Years - $2,500,000
Keith Aulie - 2 Years - $3,900,000
Mark Barberio - 2 Years - $4,000,000
Brett Connolly - 4 Years - $5,800,000
Jake Gardiner - 6 Years - $6,000,000

Free Agent Signings

Cory Conacher - 3 Years - $5,200,000

Trades

:coyotes

Landow Bow (21 Years Old, Other Goalie, 52 Overall, 3 1/2 Stars)

:bolts

Phoenix's 2018 2nd Round Pick
Phoenix's 2018 3rd Round Pick

We made this move because Landon wasn't progressing at all, well he was, but very slowly. We signed him at 18 and is still only at 52 Overall after 4 years. We also needed to free up a Goalie Spot for a 4 Star Goalie to brought in.

We have Petr Mrazek and we refuse to sign him and we can't even because we don't have the Salary Cap. He is 25, 3 1/2 Stars, 85 Overall. Why you ask? Because he wants $8,000,000 a year! And he is not changing it even as the Off-Season goes on, stingy bast*** is not getting that much. Maybe if he was 90 Overall but at that, no. Oscar Dansk is a good capable Goalie and he will take over the reigns, we don't have a roster spot for a back-up though so he'll most likely play 82 games.

New Captains Announced!

The time has finally come for Steven.

Edmonton loses. They can't pass the Flames now. With Colorado losing, the Western playoff teams are set. Calgary is locked into 5th place and will play division rival Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs.

@CruickshankCH
Calgary quiets Rexall Place in the final game of the regular season. Edmonton drops to 8th and will face Detroit.

After March slide, Coyotes surge into playoffs with strong finish

1297381200161_ORIGINAL.jpg

The Phoenix Coyotes will play the Calgary Flames in Round 1.

The Phoenix Coyotes looked as if they would cruise into the post-season. March 1st, the Coyotes sat 3rd in the Western Conference, 8 points up on their closest division rival. Fast-forward to March 20th, and that's no longer the case. The Coyotes had just endured a 2-5-3 slide, and sat 10th in their Conference.

Enter Alex Stalock.

The Coyotes' backup netminder, who had played 15 games at that point, was thrust into action. Mike Smith was struggling, showing signs of the 2009 Mike Smith, rather than the one that was an early Ted Lindsay award candidate. Stalock saved the season, posting a 9-5-1 record to bring the team into the 7th seed.

Below are skater and goalie statistics.

Thanks! I was shocked; thought they were down and out and was stocking up on draft picks, when the Neal trade opened up. Turned the season around. Though I will admit that if McDonald and Visnovsky don't simultaneously hit waivers and fall through to me, we don't even sniff the playoffs. Yay unrealistic waivers.

I never see any guys like this fall through waivers. What difficulty settings / year do these moves take place?

If you never see guys like that fall through waivers, you're incredibly lucky. Or unlucky, depending on how you look at it. I play on medium difficulty, and this past season in my GM mode Joe Thornton went through waivers. He had 73 points in 67 games, and this is in year two.

Blake Comeau celebrates after scoring on Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick.

With only a slightly different lineup from last season, things were not much different this year for the Seattle Gladiators. They finished with a slightly worse record than last season, 32-43-7. Once again they finished second last, with only New Jersey behind them this time. The team had quite a few moments of brilliance here and there, but inconsistency did them in. A few of their rookies impressed, though. Andy Miele was second in rookie scoring with 54 points, behind only Nikita Kucherov of Tampa Bay, who had 60 points on the season. 21 year old Brandon Gormley impressed as a rookie defender, scoring 45 points, while only being a -9 on one of the NHL's worst teams. The only players with positive plus/minus ratings were the fourth line: Ryan White (+13), Derek Dorsett (+13), and Tom Wandell (+7). David Rundblad had an outstanding offensive year, with 24 goals and 54 points. However, he was a -19. Evgeni Nabokov played well in the cage, but due to his age he was only able to start 52 games. He is 38 years old, it is likely that he will retire this offseason. If he does, the Gladiators will need to find themselves a new starting goaltender.

Player Stats

David Rundblad - 24 goals, 30 assists, 54 points
Andy Miele - 18 goals, 36 assists, 54 points
Mikhail Grabovski - 21 goals, 25 assists, 46 points
Brandon Gormley - 3 goals, 42 assists, 45 points
Brett Hextall - 17 goals, 24 assists, 41 points
Andrew Cogliano - 21 goals, 20 assists, 41 points
Oliver Ekman-Larsson - 7 goals, 28 assists, 35 points
Nikita Filatov - 10 goals, 20 assists, 30 points
Ryan White - 9 goals, 13 assists, 22 points
Dale Weise - 9 goals, 10 assists, 19 points
Corey Potter - 3 goals, 15 assists, 18 points
Tom Wandell - 5 goals, 13 assists, 18 points
Derek Dorsett - 8 goals, 8 assists, 16 points
Kaspars Daugavins - 11 goals, 5 assists, 16 points
Chris Summers - 2 goals, 13 assists, 15 points
Blake Comeau - 9 goals, 5 assists, 14 points
Kurtis Foster - 3 goals, 9 assists, 12 points
Chris Brown - 4 goals, 7 assists, 11 points

Goaltender Stats

Evgeni Nabokov - 52 GP, 23-20-6, 2.25 GAA, .922%, 4 shutouts
Chad Johnson - 18 GP, 6-12, 3.02 GAA, .903%, 0 shutouts
Joni Ortio - 16 GP, 3-11-1, 3.87 GAA, .874%, 1 shutout

Unless the draft lottery changes things, or a trade is made, Seattle will select second overall at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Game 7 is less than an hour away at Xcel Energy Center. The Flames have had the better of the play in the close games, but if the game gets out of hand, look for the Wild to run away with it at home.

@CruickshankCH
The away team has won every game so far in this series.
