This D is not as good as people think, especially with Volch and Harrold in. It relies heavily on the O scoring and keeping possession on the other side of the rink. I also see a disturbing trend of allowing high quality odd man rushes and chances. I don't recall it being quite that bad in 2012. Not sure if this is on Stevens or what, but it's gotta get better. I think replacing those two guys with our younger guns might be a start.

I don't feel comfortable with Stevens behind the bench at all. Robinson had these guys playing much better. sure, some are just terrible, but the fayne shunning makes no sense...when he flourished under larry.

He's just trying to skirt around the fact that if things continue this way he's going to have a LOT of egg on his face regardless of how Schnieder plays. We were assured this team would be great and restored to its former glory without the Russian merc. He better hope Schnieder is great cause that's the only chance he has of being 'right' about that.

I might have been wrong but goaltending wasn't the issue.

Thankfully I decided on a road trip for the December 13th game rather than this one. It was a pretty ugly game all around for both teams, but Pittsburgh just happened to get a few goals out of it.

Well that was fun. Glad I drove to Pittsburgh for that. Yuck. They better score tomorrow when I'm in Newark or I will break stuff. A win would be nice, but a goal is all im looking for right now.

Harrold and Volchenkov have no business on the team. I'd rather have Urbom out there and its not even close.

You could tell it was Jagr first game in months.

As much as I think Gionta has no business on the team at least he was trying with his limited skills out there.

Can't believe no goals were scored against Fleury. I hate the team is already snakebitten...or did it just carryforward from last year. Third period alone at least 3 goals should have gone in.

This team is sooooooo slow and the two uys with any speed whatsoever Josefson and Tedenby are waiver fodder soon.

At least Barch and Janssen are gone though.

This teams defense really isn't that good.

Volchenkov-Harrold is a pairing you would probably see on a team like Calgary.

Say what you want about his playoff meltdowns but Fleury was very good tonight and it wasn't just the Devils forwards.

Fleury didn't have to make an actual save for two and a half periods. I'm gonna channel Parise and say a pee wee goalie could have stopped most of the shots until about seven minutes were left in the game and they were playing a passive defense up three goals.

They might have no choice but to throw Tedenby out there, to see what he can do, if they continue to struggle with the offensive creativity. They really might need his speed and skill because Brunner and maybe Loktionov are the only ones who posses those qualities, who were in the lineup tonight.

Agreed. The 27 shots he faced were probably safer than the 21 shots Schneider faced.

Less shots don't mean the teams defense is better. More shots don't mean that team was better.

Wade Dubeilewicz probably gets a shutout tonight, or at the very most maybe he allows a goal.

From the game thread :

If Pete's dumbass decisions tonight don't prove he's a bad coach, then you'll never be convinced he is. I've been feeling this way for a while, but he's not a good coach.

He'll probably be pissed with Schneider for this game too.

BleedRed is a psychic.

That....or Pete is PREDICTABLE.

I noticed this too. Gionta did it constantly. Bernier a few times and nobofy else even rubbed against the guy

They need someone who can back up a defenseman. Tedenby has elite level speed. May as well throw him in there and change this awful dynamic of similar players.

Maybe they didn't want to contract some type of disease....They are the Pens after all. :sarcasm:

But really...It's a sad thing when GIO is the *only* player who was FINISHING....HIS....CHECKS.

lolwut?

You meant "behind the bench", right?

I knew what he meant despite the typo...I mean anyone's going to suffer in comparison to Larry, who is a genius as an assistant. But yeah I wouldn't be surprised if Stevens wants Volch in the lineup cause he's the only d-man that hits people, among other things.

This is such a weak comment from the coach

DeBoer on not getting frustrated by one game: "We’re playing in Pittsburgh against everybody’s pick to win the Eastern Conference,.....so it’s a little early to start looking at the glass half full.”
