I had a teacher who used to do this years ago.

set you up to fail so you made all your mistakes and then correct them all.

come on Pete....

Funny you say this, I was gonna say it almost looked like Pete was tanking the game with goofy things like Zajac on the wing and throwing out our worst lines/pairs against Crosby. Except we can't afford to be tanking games with all the negativity from last year and the offseason looming like a dark cloud.

Just in case people missed it on the last page of the other thread:

Brunner (nine shots) establishes a new career high, eclipsing the seven shots he had at Calgary on April 17. #NJDevils

Is anyone starting to see a pattern here? We have outshot the pens 22-8 since the first yet no goals. I mean the roster is very different from last year, but what isn't? The coach, maybe some of the blame lies with him and his system, it is only one game though so lets wait till we're 28th in goals for half way through the season and then ***** to get him fired lol

It does lie with him IMO. His system isn't working. Some of that isn't really his fault though.

Stupid lineup decisions are. And I wouldn't be surprised if Schneider is in the dog house after this one.

Maybe this was just an anomaly though, and the team will get better. Let's see where we are at the end of October.

4th line kinda sucked. I wouldn't mind seeing Olesz out there next game. It was the 1st period that killed us, though. Hopefully some chemistry starts to build off the 2nd and 3rd periods.

It will take time for a essentially a new team to click. Literally a new person on every line. But they should still be able to finish better.

Put Josefson, Olesz, and Fayne in and take out Carter, Gionta, and Harrold for tmrw.

It's game 1 move on. Really liked Brunner though.

So depth means having a bunch of guys who can't finish ?

Yes I'm over reacting but damn I was hoping to see signs contrary to what I think this season is gonna look like.

Hard work never pays off for this team anymore.

It's so damn frustrating. The Devils can work 10 times as hard as the other team to create a single scoring chance and not score, yet the other team gets one shot and it's in the net. Advanced stats can kiss my ass.

Well that was disappointing but there are some positives. Fleury had to stand on his head in the third for this to be a 3-0 game. Hopefully these guys find some chemistry quick and those near misses turn into goals and with any luck Volch will block a shot and break his foot or something.

It's not like we had many GOOD chances. We had a lot of awkward, tough angle shots.

Sure we had some easy ones. But not as many easy ones as the Pens had.

Actual talent does matter too, you know. This is the kind of stuff most people missed when they assumed we'd be SOOOOO much better without the 'flashy stars'. You still need guys that can actually score more than 20 goals a season. Depth players can only shine when you have big guns around to take pressure off them. Depth players ain't carrying an offense.
