Yeah his compete level has done a complete 180 since the start of the season. Great to see.
Lol i love that this was on the first page.

I guess that miraculous bee compete level was shortlived.

Hes like a less talented kovalev. Float level 100.

Could be 50 goals. That hasn't happened for Oilers since 1986-87.
Must be the longest 50 goal drought in the NHL

Just doing a quick look. Appears at the least Hartford/Carolina and the Devils don't have a 50 goal scorer in that time. Whew!

He’s got great point production, but I think the vast majority of his points have been playing with McDavid. Having said that, there’s not many other options of offensive players for him to play with.

But why does that matter.. Ovechkin/Backstrom, MacKinnon/Rantanen,
Benn/Seguin, Monahan/Gaudreau.. nobody faults any of these guys for playing with each other.

Top end talent feeds off top end talend.. end of story! Get some good wingers for Nuge and maybe we can see a team start to shape up.

And most of those other pairs have a third player on their line that is A LOT better than Ty Rattie, Alex Chiasson or Zack Kassian.

Despite playing with the best player in the league Draisaitl actually has worse talent around him than most of the other leagues top scorers.

Yea, my point is, why is it that Drai is always questioned for getting his points with McDavid. There's nothing wrong with that. It's where he plays his best.

This is kind of silly and how many people are saying that about Nuge who has a greater proportion of his pts with McD, particularly on the PP. Conversely Drasaitl is better than Nuge on the PP and better than Nuge EV. Much harder to play against as well and wears out opposition D something fierce.

Last night gives an indication of how easily Drai can strap a team on his back and lead them in the absence of McD. It was all Drai all night last night. 2 assists, scoring a beauty in the shootout, having Yotes bounce off him all game and fighting through checks a dozen times easy last night. Drai was an immovable force. This not even mentioning the degree of punishment he took last night in creating the plays he did. Lets also be clear that nobody else on the team makes that pass to Nuge for the tying goal. The Yotes still trying to figute out how that got through the passing lanes. 2mins earlier Drai setup Gagner on the same back door play. But anytime those setups are not getting through Drai is accused here of making garbage poor percentage passes and turning the puck over.

Wheres the string of crow eating in this thread? It should be here in LEGENDARY portions.

A few more comments

Namely that Drai is probably one of the best contracts on this team, and more than worth his contract. Harken back to when the Oilers signed the Hall, Nuge, Eberle contracts. Inflated to todays cap dollars those would be 7M buck contracts if signed today. So that Drai isn't really making much more than those contracts adjusted, and that Certainly Drai is contributing several times more to the club than Lucic at 6M.

Drai right now for posterity is tied for 4th in NHL scoring and only that low because OV is OV, and Skinner and Kane are once again having freakishly good seasons and Drai is only 1 goal removed from being behind only OV. Drai almost bagged that goal a couple times last night.

What an amazing season. Drai is 5 goals away from matching a mark Petr Klima set in 91. He's 10 goals away from Mark Messier's mark of 45 in 1990.

He may get to Mess's total, hard to say, but he's probably a lock to hit 40 or more and eclipse Klima, making him the highest scoring sniper in 30 seasons of Oilers hockey. Pretty amazing. Drai better putting the puck in the net than 3 complete decades of Oilers hockey. Now that is huge, astronomical, not even McD has done that and doesn't look like he will this season either.

All that said lets tone down the expectations now forming of a 50 goal season, and chasing OV, which would be an impossible task. Lets be happy with what we have here, which is an exceptional season.

Without that shadow of Connor McDavid what Drai has accomplished here this season would be the most impressive season since Doug Weight was playing as a star Center, but probably even more impressive given the enormous amount of goals scored, and also that Drai doesn't have nearly the lineup to play with every night that Weight had.

Posted same thing in other McDavid thread on main board but FWIW McDavid is a +26 on takeaway/give away ratio which puts him top 10 in entire league, Draisaitl is a giveaway machine and -34 on giveaway/take away ratio.

Its largely a nonsense stat, and like most or the real time stats is poorly formulated, tabulated and conceived. Drai is the best forechecker on this club and not even close. He routinely comes out with the puck and doesn't get credited with takeaways. He breaks up or intercepts passes and doesn't get credited with takeaways. There is no semblance or connection of what actually takes place on the ice and some of these garbage stat calculations.

He had a game game... course the puck loss at the offensive blue line leading to the first goal against wasnt a good start.

Last couple games a pretty good example of how bogus the argument of Drai not being good enough to carry his own line away from McDavid is.

Even McDavid couldn't get anything going playing with Rattie/Kassian/Lucic. He had a few okay shifts once Gagner was moved onto his line. But otherwise struggled as the only guy who could do anything with the puck on is line.

Even the best players in the league need good linemates.

If we want Drai and McDavid on different lines we're going to need another Nuge level complimentary player to play with one of them.
