Namely that Drai is probably one of the best contracts on this team, and more than worth his contract. Harken back to when the Oilers signed the Hall, Nuge, Eberle contracts. Inflated to todays cap dollars those would be 7M buck contracts if signed today. So that Drai isn't really making much more than those contracts adjusted, and that Certainly Drai is contributing several times more to the club than Lucic at 6M.
Drai right now for posterity is tied for 4th in NHL scoring and only that low because OV is OV, and Skinner and Kane are once again having freakishly good seasons and Drai is only 1 goal removed from being behind only OV. Drai almost bagged that goal a couple times last night.
What an amazing season. Drai is 5 goals away from matching a mark Petr Klima set in 91. He's 10 goals away from Mark Messier's mark of 45 in 1990.
He may get to Mess's total, hard to say, but he's probably a lock to hit 40 or more and eclipse Klima, making him the highest scoring sniper in 30 seasons of Oilers hockey. Pretty amazing. Drai better putting the puck in the net than 3 complete decades of Oilers hockey. Now that is huge, astronomical, not even McD has done that and doesn't look like he will this season either.
All that said lets tone down the expectations now forming of a 50 goal season, and chasing OV, which would be an impossible task. Lets be happy with what we have here, which is an exceptional season.
Without that shadow of Connor McDavid what Drai has accomplished here this season would be the most impressive season since Doug Weight was playing as a star Center, but probably even more impressive given the enormous amount of goals scored, and also that Drai doesn't have nearly the lineup to play with every night that Weight had.
