The Hitch comments in the article, which were an ANSWER to Spectors pointed questions condemning Drais play were just an example of a coach going to the well. Drai is his best 200ft Center by a mile, and a workhorse. He's the guy most likely to respond by carrying the team on his shoulders. So that Hitch linked that, and maybe even to get Drai Angry, in effect whipping a horse. But Drai IS the horse.
Hitch, or Spector, or Tychkowski are not going to go at McD, he's untouchable, so they go to the next one. Malkin and Kessel get the same derision in Pittsburgh, always have, its just dynamic. You can't critique McD much, you can't critique Crosby, so you go at the others. In Hitchcocks case he's smart enough to know that Draisaitl has more burning desire than anyone to improve every facet. he's coach ready, first and foremost. Drais dad is a coach.
That should be an aha statement.
Hitch is just whipping the horse that is most likely not to rear, and the one he trusts to pull the weight. If anybody on a coaching staff ever called out Nuge would he take it well? I don't know, its never happened, and he's a bad GA player this season not covering his end.
Last night, again, Nuge has incredible lack of compete preceding a goal. Him and Bonino go to the boards in exact same position. its a clear 50/50 puck. Bonino wins the puck clean because Nuge, an 8 season vet, is a joke on the boards, gets the puck back to the point and the Preds score a big goal. nuge didn't even compete on the play. A shift later Nuge attempts a shot on net, fans on it, and Preds have a two on one break. Next shift Nuge loses another battle and its a goal post saving us.
Where's any media or presser comments on that. This about the 7th game in a row Nuge has been junk.
This is the Vet player in the lineup. Who is one dimensional this season. But everybodies pleased he is at least got 55pts and is -13.
The astounding thing, really, is Nuge's present season is just him getting back to what he was in rookie season. But not even, because he's giving up a lot more GA. Without all the PP pts and dependency Nuge has been pretty average.
A story of two players. McD goes down, anytime it ever happens, and McD isn't in the lineup, Drai carries the club and Nuge is invisible.
