Kapanen isn't going to outscore those guys. He doesn't have the hands or shot. Most of you here aren't going to like this comparison, but the guy he's closest to as a comparable is Pascal Dupuis lite. He has great wheels, great on the forecheck and good on defense. He doesn't have Dupers slapper but their hands are both similar. Kapanen's best attribute is being a force on the PK and on the forecheck. He creates a lot of chances because of his speed and fetching after the puck.
I'd rank our top 4 wingers:
Guentzel
Zucker
Rust
Kapanen
I'm kinda torn over who is fifth. I could argue either way for Tanev or Hornqvist and it's really no slight to either guy. One doesn't get played as much as he should and the other doesn't get played in situations that would be best for him and the team.
I think Rust is going to have a typical Rust year next season.
I mean don't get me wrong, if he keeps producing like he did this season I'll take it, but I think he's going to be 15-20 goal scorer and 30-40 point player again. I think Kapanen will be a 20-25 goal scorer and probably a 40-50 point player, same with Hornqvist. Guentzel is a 30-40 goal scorer and 70-80 point player and I think Zucker is probably good for 20-25 goals and 50-60 points.
I like Tanev but to me he's only a 12-15 goal guy and about 25-30 points. He brings other intangibles, but I think production-wise he's right there. Honestly, looking at that top-six and figuring is Crosby and Malkin are both healthy, they'll both be 30+ goal scorers and over point-per-game players, that's not a bad. Factor in you have a 20 goal scorer with Hornqvist on your third line and a double digit goal scorer in Tanev on your fourth line, that's a pretty good group of forwards. The issue is producing when it matters, something they haven't had for the past two seasons.
